The lack of decent cheap midfield options this year is tough.

Is ANYONE daring to go no Haaland?

This is just a first draft but I've gone:

Onana
TAA - Trippier - Saliba - Estupinan
Saka - Mitoma - Rashford
Joao Pedro - Haaland - Nkunku

Areola - Udogie - Nakamba - Benson

Is that good or nah?

Undav is going to leave Brighton so that helps with their options. Question is does JP start up top or on the left and cut into Mitoma’s minutes? No way their most expensive signing comes off the bench.

Trippier probably the pick I'd most query given his opening fixtures are Villa, City, Liverpool and Brighton. Hardly screams clean sheets for someone who costs a fair bit.

Beyond that it's all players you could make (and people have been making) reasonable arguments for. The main difference between this team and most drafts knocking around is that you've opted for more players in attack/defence over midfield.

I would downgrade Trips. They're opening run is terrible.

Flekken - Sanchez
James - Shaw - Robertson - Estupian- Meyer
Salah - Sterling - Diaby - Soucek - Ageyi
Haaland - Isak - Nkunku

Trying out different drafts, is this any good?

Onana, Areola
VVD, Ake, Estu, Mings, Gusto
KDB, Bruno, Saka, Martinelli, Garnacho
Haaland, Nkunku, Archer

That’s a bold move Cotton! But I doubt this will pay off.

What's bold there, only Sterling I would think but I think he'll have a great season with Poch.

Why have few, if any, picked James? Is there news he's out of favour with Poch?

Ramsdale - Areola
Martinez - Stones - Estupiñan - James - Bell
Ødegaard - Grealish - Saka - Rashford - Enzo
Darwin - Haaland - Ferguson

Playing it safe.

By the way, 86.4% are going with Haaland!? Has there ever been a more predictable choice?? Crazy. I hate it

Decent team ticking off the TAA conundrum, plus the mid 5 I want...but obvious weakeness up front.
Could play 4-5-1 every week though.

Ramsdale
TAA Gabriel Shaw Estu (Bell)
Rashford Bruno Saka Mitoma Mbuembo
Haaland c (6m Brighton, 4.5m chimpola)

Other considerations.

Losing Shaw and having Onana as the 3rd United. Think Onana's pass rate will have him up the bonus points, but Shaw was 3rd top bonus defender last year behind Trippier and TAA (!).

Jesus as 2nd attacker is the obvious, and probably my go to real plan - superb fixtures, where you probably want 2 attackers rather than 2 defenders.

Chelsea's fixtures turn amazing week 3, so if Colwill starts the season, 4.5m into that defence is intriguing. Although keeping Chilwell in storage for his occasional 10 pointer amongst massive injury breaks is too. (We won't even mention James).

Good to muse on ideas though.

Assume you picked a few individually, then auto picked the other half? Seem to have a lot of classic mid value picks the computer favours.

This is not playing safe

James, Darwin & Ferguson are not safe players. But it's different so could do well.

Onana
Stones Gabriel Estupinan
Bruno Rashford Saka Mitoma
Haaland Jesus Nkunku

Areola Botman Bayer 4.5FWD

That was easy. Everyone pretty much picked themselves.

I just don't believe in Jesus. Hehe. I can't bring myself to put him in my team. But you make a good point

He has a criminally low output doesn't he, and is a bit of a myth points wise.
But their fixtures are just too good to not have their main attacker I feel.

He moves onto the Chelsea fella or even Nunez in week 3 if it's looking woeful.

I am tempted to go cheap in defence. Like Estupinan, Mings, Botman, Tarkowski and a 4.0, keep some money in the bank for GW2-5 transfers, maybe invest a bit in Gabriel for Tarkowski. I think I will go 3 at the back almost exclusively. I got 8 great offensive players and won’t ever bench 2 of them.

Speaking of Gabriel Jesus, he has sustained a knee injury and will not be a part of their final friendly game.

My Blackadder levels of cunningness has been taken away from me with the transfer of Ndiaye to Marseille.

Dayum that's a class burn

No I didn't do any auto picks. I wanted to have Rashford but think he's overvalued at 9. Diaby has done well in pre-season so hoping he starts well.

Jesus injured and out for a minimum of a few weeks changes things. Decisions on who to replace him with. I like Nkunku but not their opening two fixtures. Might have to take a risk and go for Joao Pedro just for the great opening fixtures.

He is injured? Confirmed?

after Jesus News I'm on:

Onana
Robertson Gabriel Estupinan
Saka Bruno Mitoma Rashford Martinelli
Haaland Nkunku

Areola, Baldock, Beyer, Archer

0m in the bank. I think it's a good mix to start with, it will give me good flexibility.(a factor i didn't put much attention to in the past while creating my starting Lineup). Lots of value in Midfield, easy ways to downgrade Martinelli or Bruno to one of the cheaper Midfield assets. (and upgrade the other areas afterwards).
If not for more injuries, I think I'm settled for now. (knowing that I will probably change it up again until Deadline  )

Thanks to @RDCR07 for tips on the way to heavy defence.
Team is now :

Onana
Estu - Stones - Gabriel
Saka - Bruno - Mitoma - Rashford
Nkunku - Haaland - Pedro

Areola - Mac Allister - Romero - Bell

1.5 in the bank, but i like having some money there to correct my mistakes.

ps. TAA is very tempting...but I'm not sure if the 1.5m more than Robertson are worth it.

Robertson could easily get the same returns or even outscore TAA in any game imo. (especially at Anfield).

Don't forget that Klopp loves to sub and even rotate Robertson with Tsimikas.
