Fantastic Five coming to Manchester United

It's not about Fellaini being better than anyone, it's about him helping out when one of the fullbacks gets dragged out of position. Without Vidic in the side, we can't rely on any one centreback not to get dominated. A shorter DM can't offer that, which is where Coleman would struggle I feel. It's Diff'rent Strokes for different folks.

Your post did insinuate that Fellaini was good in the air, that was all I was commenting on, or all I meant to, as I don't agree in the slightest.

Judging by the number of goals he's scored with his head, it'd be difficult to argue he's bad in the air. We're not talking about a Peter Crouch type character who's tall but can't head for shit.

I suppose we disagree, if you look at amount of chances to score a header/ times he scored a header, that would reveal how good he was...

As of late, I'm speaking about for us, he actually (on the weekend passed) lost more air battles than any player in the PL, he really is NOT good in the air, in fact, Peter Crouch would be quite apt.

Using one match, in a season where he has been struggling with form and injuries, trying to fit into a new team, as proof of his heading ability is shortsighted.

Hummels 20m
Shaw 25m
Kroos 35m
Draxler 38m
Santon 10m (Cover both fullbacks)

Out
Young
Clevs
Valencia
RVP
Giggs
Vidic
Anderson
Bebe

You're assuming I used that one game and drew a conclusion, I didn't, i simply didn't point out the umpteen times he's been inferior in the air, it isn't shortsighted, lazy perhaps..

Not a bad shout actually! He still at Barcodes? Where did you get £38 for Draxler? Seem's very nailed on...
Apparently 38 is his release clause. could all be paper bollocks though. As for Santon i think he can play either fullback role quite well and playing for Newcastle at the moment i imagine he would be happy to be on the periphery of the first 11 for a team that should be up there next year. Also he wouldn't cost a bomb.

Why do a few people keep mentioning Santon? Flashy name? Previous reputation?

He's a woeful defender.

Draxler would be a pointless buy, he's basically the next Mata - a player who won't fit our system or our needs. We'd be better off with someone with actual ability to cross the ball, a classic winger of the Valencia 2011 mould - they're not very easy to find though.

And for considering departures - Valencia, Cleverley and Young won't leave. Kagawa, Hernandez and Nani will.

I am going with some very unlikely targets:

1) Toni Kroos
2) Marco Reus
3) Mats Hummels
4) Ander Herrera
5) Luke Shaw

Now with some unrelalistic targets:

1) Thiago Alcantara
2) Lionel Messi
3) Cristiano Ronaldo
4) Arturo Vidal
5) Mats Hummels

I wanted to give Moyes targets but actually Cina has done that.

Lazy cnut...

He had been excellent in the air for Everton. More likely than not we'll see that displayed here soon

He's a woeful defender.
Woeful is underselling him greatly, he is a decent fullback who can play on both sides.
He is mentioned because he would be good to have in the squad especially considering that our only current backup wannabe-fullback is Buttner, and our current left-back looks to leave.

If Evra signs a new contract then we'd be in a better position with rotating Evra and Santon, and having Santon to figure at right-back when Rafael gets his monthly injury.

He's woeful. I live in Newcastle, I've seen him regularly and most of the fans think he's shite. Because he is.

Forget the Kroos and Gundogan, Herrara and Carvalho look only the attainable midfielders out there, which i think will be good enough for United

We need a LB, a CB, two CMs and another player (depending on who leaves). So, as a kind of base line worst case scenario:

1. Shaw/Coentrao
2. Carvalho
3. Herrera
4. Garay/Mangala
5. Coleman/AN Other.

Then you hope we actually get an upgrade on one or two of those options with the likes of Kroos, Gundogan, Reus, Hummels, Draxler or whoever. For the sake of my sanity I'm not going to assume we get any of them though.

So, if Moyes is in charge, maybe a team like:

DDG
Coleman Jones Garay Shaw
Carvahlo Herrera
Valencia Rooney Mata
RvP

I can't speak for this year, but Santon has looked "decent" since his Inter days.
If he has been shite this year, then that could be said for most of your defense as far as the comments on that topic goes, no?
Could it be that his form is off? I'm genuinely asking as it's obvious that you've watched him more than me.
Is it possible that he has lost it completely and it isn't just form and team as a whole that is failing?

I'm a United fan, I just live in Newcastle and have a lot of Newcastle-supporting friends. But yeah, the rest of the defence is generally a bit shite, especially compared to the level we consider United players to be. Debuchy and Williamson have been good though. I get the impression Debuchy has had a very Evra-like rise. Poor on arrival, but he's adapted well. Now he wouldn't be a bad acquisition if we're looking for cover and competition for Rafael.

As for Santon, there's obviously talent there. I just constantly see a player that's never in position and can't use his left foot. Never a United player.

At most, we'll buy one big name; another two players who people on the internet have heard of; and two who have come completely out of left field. The fantasies in this thread will never materialise.

I think the intention is to spend big on top-class players in the Summer, because Moyes sadly doesnt rate the squad he inherited & said as much the other day with his "even Fergie would have struggled this season.." remark. Itts attractin these top-class players thats gonna be the problem though.

For one reason or another, we struggled to get top-class players in under Fergie over the course of time, so what hope does Moyes have to be honest?!

I heard us being linked with Aaron Lennon the other day - a swap with Chicharito. If there's any truth to that story, i'll hire the next feckin plane & fly it into Moyes!

i'd call 40m for kovacic a bargain.

di maria if he was available would be extremely valuable.

Kroos, Reus, Vidal, Coentrao, Hummels.

£40m, £35m, £55m, £15m, £20m.

Total: £165m.

Kroos is a no go as far I am concerned. Vidal will have to be offered a lot of money to leave Juve. I am hopeful on Coentrao of those 5 you mentioned.

I love how people think Vidal is realistic...

I think if we appointed Klopp as manager then suddenly Hummels, Gundogan and maybe Reus become possible signings, they'll want to come to him and he'll want to bring them with him.

Would Dortmund want to let klopp and arguably their 4 best players go at once (lew to bayern as well)
the fans would probably react pretty badly to that - plus the new manager would surely want to work with the players
also we have to appoint klopp when he seems happy there... Plus Madrid / barca may be looking for managers in the summer.

sadly I expect another summer of us metaphorically fluttering our eyes at sexy Spanish signings whilst they politely look straight through us before realising the party is about to end and hurriedly kopping off with the gangly geek we ignored earlier.

Perhaps we will flirt with ze germanz this summer getting wet through with thoughts of gundogan and kroos before finally pouncing in desperation on someone like Fabian delph... Either that or a wirlwind summer romance at the world cup and we come back with the new kleberson

To quote the great Aneurin Bevin, "we stuff their mouths with gold"
Im not sure that would work
how wide /tall is a mouth - even a big mouth is probably about 7cm high / wide and based upon extensive watching of porn films most girls struggle to get anything more than 8 inches down which is about 20cm.
so about 980cm3 of gold would seem the limit
gold is about 20g per cm3 so we are talking 19,600g of gold which assuming we are talking 24k pure gold is around £25 per gram so about £490,000 worth and there are 7 board members I believe so if we stuff all their mouths with gold thats just under 3 and a half million quid
im not convinced thats enough
back in bevans day that tactic might have been enough to get Munoz puskus and desteffano from Madrid but sadly these days its not even enough to pay the agent

I like the look of that list, but where's the 10-15 goals a season winger?

I believe that wingers could come in Nani, if we have a manger that can restore belief in his ability or Welbeck who seems to be slowly adapting to a false left wing role. If Lucas Moura is available, he can also be an option and have an Hazard-esque impact to the team. Then their is Januzaj who has the potential to furthur improve his goal scoring product when he matures. We have plenty of options in that regards, but most of our goals would most likely come down the middle with much better support this season.

How high do you think kovacic potential is?

Do you think he can become as good as Gündogan? He may be a better option considering Gündogan's possible injury problems.

Yeah that sounds good to me, and something I would really want to happen in the future in terms of Nani and januzaj being 10-15 a season players. I just don't know how much of a future Nani has here, and when Januzaj will step up to the plate and provide that amount of goals. Ronaldo hit doubles when he was 20/21, so there's not much pressure on the lad ;)

I think Kovacic is balon d'or material. He's a midfielder so unless he develops into a kaka esque level of production and offers 15+goals a season to go with his playmaking, it's unlikely he'll get such acclaim, but he'll be one of the 3 best midfielders in the world one day, barring injuries or personal crisis.

There are rumors that United will have a busy summer and will see five new addition to the team come this summer. If you had to choose five realistic target, who would it be?

1.) Mangala or Hummel(£30m)
2.) Gündogan or Mateo Kovacic(£20/£10m)
3.) William Carvalho(£37m)
4.) Luke Shaw (£25m)
5.) Lucas Moura or Angel Di Maria(£40m/£30m) dependant on if three of these five leaves: Nani, Hernandez, and Young, Zaha or Valencia

From what I've heard 10m for Carvalho doesn't sound realistic at all. Albeit, all that I've heard comes from Malva.

Santon labelled by Mourinho as the new Maldini, but sold by Inter for being not good enough. He is a decent player for a mid-tab team.

De Sciglio is better

I think you meant Kovacic?

Nevertheless, Mateo Kovacic is currently unhappy at Inter because he does not seem to fit under Walter Mazzarri plans. As a result, he has been limited to subs appearances and few starts. His potential is most likely worth £40m as Malva said, but his current price tag due to the incompetant use of him at Inter is around £10m - £20m if Inter was to sell. Which would be a great deal of business for any club that purchase him.

Recent rumors has it that Liverpool are interested for £8m, so it coincide with my starting evaluation.

Imagine when Liverpool signs Kovacic for £10m and Rakitic for £15m and we end up with no midfielder.

Well, you don't have to, it's been the story of the last 5 years for us.

I think that it will end up more like the 'compromise five' this summer. Big window that will determine the short to medium term future of our club.

To be honest, I'd be relatively pleased with just Shaw and Gundogan (provided he gets over the injuries). Anything more would be a bonus.
