Gaming Fallout 4

I had a look at this in person and I've got to say it has some of the worst graphics I've seen on next-gen consoles. What were they thinking?

Some parts of it are straight up ugly. The face animations in particular are a joke. Tbf though, there are some nice weather effects in the game.

This guy to me seems a bit ignorant when there are so many people who tell about performance issues.
Btw, the reason i look into this thread despite no former experience with fallout, and no plans to buy fallout 4 is because the concept seems interesting.
Kind of like how I enjoy watching people build, raid and do stuff in Ark, but i find playing the game myself rather boring.

It's mental. Zooming in on the distance just gives some hideous amorphous blob. I might be overestimating Skyrim's graphics, but Fallout 4 appears to have made very little progress since then.

Relatively bad graphics you can put up with, but to compound that with the frame-rate issues... It's just incredibly shoddy. I was in a room with some mire lurks - literally three of them - and the game was stuttering and stalling.

Still, it looks like it's pretty much following the same Fallout formula so I'm sure it'll be fun. I'll definitely be buying it.

I don't think it looks too bad

Outside with the atmospheric effects it's ok, but the texturing alone is shocking, it's actually splattered with lower-res textures than the 360/ps3 could deal with. The indoor lighting and shadowing is similar, they are using identical settings to those in Skyrim, it's pretty much a joke.

Plus the sluggish framerates really affect the gunplay, and since they stripped it down, that's the most important thing.

It's not even doing that. The conversation system alone makes the whole thing different and less fun. You literally make no choices, just sort of get through them and then go with the outcome.

Such a shame.

15 hours in and I've just got to Diamond City. The game is really starting to open up and I'm getting quests left right and centre, after an initially fairly narrow path at the start (or so it seemed to me).

same here, I had no more than 4 quests at a time then suddenly I have about 20

The only choices you get now is to increase the amount of bottle caps you get for quests. Such a backwards step.

I met a crucial story character and had zero choice in what I could do. Dialogue is really bad

Another baffling thing

The baby version of Shaun was black and now that he's a bit older he's completely white? Does he just look the same for everyone...pretty dumb

Yesterday was my first extended play time with it. It's fun, it's Fallout and I can't complain. Yes, in an ideal world it would better. Dived into the whole world building for the first time yesterday, got kinda hooked afterwards.

So I finally caved in and downloaded it today. Only had time to play a few hours but it really is a damned ugly game. Too soon for any graphical improvement mods? High texture packs ect?

Is there anything decent I can do with my settlement. I've enjoyed building it up but can I get them to do something useful for me? Make money or materials etc

I don't seem to get attacked at all

Scavenger Station = Materials
Stores = Bottlecaps

All of which goes into your Workshop

I toyed around with this settlement thing but really, it's so cumbersome to build anything, the whole thing is just clunky. Just like the entire UI, especially the map and the inventory. Really, is it too much to ask that they create a decent UI in 2015? It's amazing how crap it still is.

On the other hand, I like the lack of item degradation - I never really understood why that's a thing at all, it never made any game fun - and that you can see what's inside containers before opening them.

You've actually enjoyed something from this game :o

I loved the settlement side of things. If you persist you can get really creative and make some pretty nifty bases. My current favourite is my three story base on top of the Red Rocket gas station.

I always find out I spend half my time using some dreadful melee weapon because I keep running out of ammo, or getting close to doing so.

Is there a trick to avoid this or somewhere specifically to find loads of ammo?

Anyone gone to see Virgil yet? The trip there is intense.

Thanks.

Settlement is at 10 people right now. Food -25 Water - Around 50 Defence - 28
Got quite a lot of materials now except oil.

I also enjoy Nick Valentine
Nice, remember to assign people to the stores and scavenger station too. Also if you have a water purifier or too, you can sell the extra water it generates for caps as well

I've only played like 8 hours of this the past few days and I've got to be honest, I'm not impressed. The graphics and UI are poor, the dialogue wheel makes me want to bang my head against a wall, and the environment feels incredibly boring. I don't think I'll be playing this game too much.

If Mama Murphy doesn't shut up about "The Sight", she's going to get a barb wire baseball bat in planted in her skull. Predict that.

She's very irritating I'm thinking of a way to kill her off myself

I can't seem to get more than 10 settlers despite having a charisma of around 8. I've got loads of food, water and beds....

Any idea what the icon in top right is about? I've been to the doctor, cured my addictions, rads and health.

You're crippled! In previous games you could apply a stimpak to a specific limb. Haven't actually been crippled yet so not sure if it's the same in 4.

Thanks, that makes sense. Pretty sure I'll be able to apply one from the screen in the second screenshot after clicking x. Just need to get a stimpak now

Got a few stimpaks now. Tried to apply it from the screen but didn't heal me :/
It should heal automatically if you use a stimpak. Also I think it heals if you sleep so just find a bed

Do dead bodies ever disappear? I killed a traders brahmin which managed to get stuck in a door of my settlement. The corpse has been there for days.

I think they do but it might not if its in a settlement. You can move stuff by holding X/A while looking at it. Not sure if a Brahmin will be too big to move though so maybe try some explosives

In starting to hate this game!! Been stuck on the streets of Boston and dying over and over and over again by stupid super mutants near valentine!!!! Any tips on combat?!

Thanks will give it a try.

Depending on your level and what weapons you have you may be better off leaving them for another time. They were way too high a level when I first went into that area.
