Gaming Fallout 4

Had this sitting unwrapped on my desk from Monday and still not had the chance to play it yet. In full hermit mode this weekend for some hardcore looting

Been playing a bit..........the frame rate is pretty shocking.

I haven't used any of the rad-away to fix my radiation poisioning since I started and my health bar is now at 60% available after 17 hours. Going to see how long I can let it get worse before I have to fix it

My game is a bit broken. Crashed every time I followed this guy from the pillars of the community cult into a building, and now is crashing after like 15 seconds of my flight in that one plane with the brotherhood of steel. Basically need to wait for a patch to keep playing it, as I can't just keep avoiding bits of the map or quests because the game is crashing. Annoying as feck as I was really enjoying it.

This thread, and the general reception, are making me think I should mod up Fallout NV and play that instead.

From some comments, it sounds like a fallout version of ark survival evolved...
With no dinosaurs. :[

I am thoroughly enjoying the game, I don't get the hate.
I'm having a break now though, I'm at the point where I need to side with somebody and I really don't know what to do

It's mad how the time flies when you play this. I have hardly gotten anywhere after two loong nights.

The exploration and looting aspect is fun and guns feel a bit better. Love how the worthless loot actually has some use this time around.

The UI and base building controls are really frustrating me at times although the latter is a pretty cool concept. It's also annoying how they managed to remove even more RPG elements, but at least it's not as bad as what happened in Mass Effect as the series progressed. I like how well-balanced the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system felt this time, seemed like there wasn't any real dump stat.

Not really expecting anything great story or writing wise from a Bethesda game, so I'm somewhat okay with the dialogue system actually since dialogue is mostly short and doesn't overstay it's welcome.

Performance is a bit weird for me with frame drops here and there. Turning down god rays helped a lot though. The game looks alright I suppose, although the lip sync is really off.

I'm definitely having fun with it, but we'll see how it feels after 50 hours.

Yeah I'm enjoying it too.

I've never played Fallout. Should I start with 3 then get 4?
I've never played Fallout, got 4 and had no problems at all. Fairly straightforward to get the hang of. On the start/download screen there's a video that goes into what exactly S.P.E.C.I.A.L is. I recommend watching that if you do decide to start with 4

Great, is there any game you'd find it comparable to at this stage?

The Mass Effect comparison is pretty apt. That was heavily turned into a mediocre shooter from the second, Fallout 4 isn't quite as bad as that went. Hopefully the next one builds upon it and heads back in the right direction to boot.

The problem with both is immersion for me. I just don't feel as in to the game as the previous ones, thanks primarily to the dumbing of the conversations and looting, also (and I keep saying it, but I can't stress enough!), the UI really does take a lot away from it. It's more of a chore than a pleasure picking up loot and new weapons only to have to wade through a terrible inventory system. It's a shame when they mess with decent series and turn them into quite another genre. Fallout 4 so far is a decent game for me, but shit sequel. It should have been a side addition to the series, like Bloodbourne was, it's not bad to have an easier more accessible game to compliment, at all. But to change a series is why it's getting so much stick, not because it's turned into a shit game suddenly.

I'm Level 7 but really struggling to choose which Perks to go for. So far I've invested in lockpicking, gun crafting (Gun Nut), settlements (Local Leader) and Bloody Mess. Got 2 perk points to invest but can't decide what to go for  Don't really have a particular fighting style yet. I'm playing on Survival and it's really difficult. Got a feeling if I don't put points in a specific fighting style (pistols, rifles, automatic weapons, heavy weapons etc) I'll always struggle against the tougher enemies.

I'm tempted to up a few of my SPECIAL stats. My Endurance is only 2, could do with a bit more health as when enemies get up close and personal I tend to die pretty quickly.

Also loving how freaky the feral ghouls are. Stumbled across a group of four and the way they run towards you, stumbling and screeching it felt like I was running away from the zombies in 28 Days Later.

I've focused more on SPECIAL than anything else.

I've found strength aint as important than I thought it would be, whereas I am putting a lot in charm and intelligence.

Without realising, I've just spent 4 hours doing my main HQ
Now I am out looking for copper

What do people use for windows on houses? I have a 3 storey house but it's more like a sensory deprivation cell or something.

The PC controls for this are a feckin joke. Arrow keys for the conversation wheel...ARROW KEYS, I haven't used them since I played frogger. And having to press enter everytime to confirm something? "Yeah don't mind us while we force you to move your left hand all the way to the other end of the keyboard everytime we want you to confirm something, oh and you're not allowed to keybind your own controls". And that's not even going into the horrible mouse acceleration.

I might have to use an Xbox 360 controller for this, a PC first person game :wenger:

Completed the quest at 'Fort H'. Lol at the dialogue options in this game...so poor. I like the armour you get at the end of it

I'm 20 hours in and the framerate is starting to feel pretty poor when I'm running around in the wasteland (mainly near the middle of the map where there's buildings)

I wish my companions would relax a bit at me stealing stuff. I mean its the wasteland...a mans gotta eat

They are terrible. You can remap, but some keys are double binded (like tab is for walk).

You can at least turn mouse acceleration off via an .ini (or as ridiculous as it is, 3), which if you look at them shows how chaotic the engine is. No wonder it's so sluggish on the consoles, at least on PC you can unlock the framerate cap (which is another joke).

In boston commons now and man the framerate is so bad. First time I came it was fine but now its horrific.

Yeah, Piper didn't like me stealing stuff but got turned on at me picking locks. Okay then.
I was just getting extorted by a raider who I successfully threatened to leave me alone...."Piper disliked that"

Edit - I just found a companion with an Irish accent....feels very strange hearing it. I mean how did that stick around 200+ years after a nuclear apocalypse where I'm assuming no irish people are flying to america. Bethesda writing I guess

I'm level 20. Didn't understand the perk system in the beginning, spent all my points on base points until level 10 or so.
Still love it, i actually don't know what to complain about.
Playing on a ps4, haven't had a problem. No lag, visually stunning and few bugs.

I didn't play 3 though.

Visuals vary a bit. Some parts look great, some others not so much. Ah well, only 244 more levels before you unlock all perks :p

Pfft most Americans claim to be Irish. Guess whatever Irish-American survivors there were bred like rabbits

The accent might be a side-effect of all the substance abuse.

This is a cool mod that makes it easy to disable the mouse acceleration without messing about with .ini files. You can also change FOV, disable the intro movie, hide the compass etc.

Agree about the inventory system being shit, btw. It's driving me insane having to wade through all that shit.

I'm enjoying the game, but can understand long time fans of the series being annoyed. The RPG Codex review will probably be.. interesting.

I'm find myself autosaving like a mad man in this game. Always feel like some bug is going to feck up a mission or something.

Ah ffs! That's a real bummer for me. I just can't seem to enjoy games with shitty controls. Hope they fix this with an update.
