Gaming Fallout 4

So far I like the world and it certainly feels like fallout. I like the fact VATS doesn't completely pause the game now too.

I'm only up to the power armour bit, but it's already clearly simplified, and the new way of talking is completely shit. The texturing is shocking too, like really bad for a new release. Roll on the mods.

Also, why in 2015 are they still making PC versions without even the basics like proper settings and fov slider? Why the feck is mouse smoothing on and Vsync off? (I get they have done it for consoles to try to help performance, but that's just poor for PC).

It runs decent enough on PC and I'm yet to see any bugs though, so that's a decent surprise. I think FO3 started much better, but so far I think it's started fine and I'm looking forward to exploring.

I have yet to pass a single house that I haven't looted everything in it. Pencils, tea pots, old fire extinguishers. I have a problem.

Ditto

I was looking forward to this and tempted to buy it but just went on steam reviews and there are a lot of negative reviews.

For the people that have played it would you say it's a let down or has it met your expectations?

Buy it. Most of the poor reviews are down to bugs, which I have yet to experience. The game itself is fantastic. Not better than TW3, but still pretty dam good.

Has anyone done any of the building stuff? I planned on having a 5 minute look at it but spent over an hour just messing around with it.

I managed to get to 5 stories. It's pretty easy to build houses but it's hard to allign the stairs so the upper floors don't really fit properly. There's loads of decorations avalible so you can pretty build up what you want.

I kinda hope someone finds a exploit to duplicate materials as I want to just build up a massive base. It's a very cool new feature

I can't figure out how to get the electricity working though

Also this is some of the best implementation of changing weather I've seen in a game. Changes the whole atmosphere at times and there's some really interesting stuff that I won't mention as it's cool to see it for yourself.

The companions are also much better than before as they comment on the stuff you are doing and will randomly intitiate conversations with you.

I'm about 14 hours in now and there doesn't seem to be much choice in how you will play which is still dissapointing from a fallout game

I don't think they even degrade now.
They don't. Can be annoying at times when your clearing out a area and have lots of guns which before you could just merge together for a high quality and high value weapon to use or sell. Now you just leave them there.

I remember before that you were rewarded if you didn't use VATS as your weapon wouldn't degrade as much and now it just doesn't matter. Don't know why they removed the feature as it added some realism for the setting

I've got to say it hasn't gripped me totally yet. I was thinking about why, and it is all the dumbing making it feel much more shallow (like Skyrim in many ways). I think it's a lot to do with little things adding up. For example, the new system of showing you what's in every container, it detracts from the immersion because you are looking for stuff as much, you aren't searching everything in the hopes of finding what you need. It does seem like a small thing, but with the dialogue system now making conversations less involving and things like not having to worry about degradation of your stuff, it is more like a generic shooter than a real immersive fight for survival.

I'm hoping all the crafting and safehouse stuff has a real use to balance it out a bit. If it's all there just to fool you into thinking there's tons more depth, then that doesn't seem worth all they've stripped out. But it's still early days yet and even though commanding him is a bit shit (seriously, it's like they haven't even seen a companion in other games), I like the dog coming along and ripping into people more than FO3.

And I do really like the slight improvements to VATS, again it's a small thing but it does show that there are improvements at least :)

Wish there was a better way to interact with the companion. Ended up being in the middle of nowhere before I realised I must have told Dogmeat to stop in Sanctuary or that place with the Rocket.

you need a generator, and run a wire from the generator to a conduit on your building, then any electrical things near it will work

I need more inventory space. I pick up everything now, everything!

Compulsive hoarding is a bitch alright.

But yea, same here, can't run because I gather garbage everywhere to either create some shitty houses or trying to save for those 18k gloves this caravan seller offered.

Anywhere selling this for less than the £40 on PC? I was going to wait until the end of the month to buy it but I'm getting really keen to play it now.

don't read if you haven't been to Weston Water Plant

so I was going there to clear it out for the greygarden mission and I saw a super mutant so figured ok I can take one of these, then saw another, and another, and another, there were about 4 maybe 5, so I figured, feck that and ran off, found a little town, and as I was killing a ghoul and searching a caravan I hear a noise, and all the super mutants were walking down the road, luckily I had a few bottlecap mines so chucked them out the window and in the door way, that killed 3 of them, then the final one I managed to kill by shooting a car which blew up and got the final blow

although ive just gone back to the plant and there are still 2 mutants there so I'm now wondering if these were a group of different super mutants

If you got a computer with two nvidia cards and can't get SLI to work... most fixes seems to do jack sh*t. I'm playing at 3440x1440 and a single 970 just isn't enough. So I've been googling like crazy to get SLI to work and I finally found something that worked for me...

These are exactly my thoughts. Feels like I'm playing a game which is a shadow of what it used to be...

I also don't like how terminals reset now and also crippled limbs become walkable. That absolutely screams of dumbing down the game for casual gamers, Then you have the dialogue, clunky pip boy, no repair/degradation, no being able to wait anymore and gimmicky building system.

It honestly feels like I'm playing some kind of Assassins Creed/Far Cry mashup.

I'm sure they use to reset in the last game?

Ive been enjoying it a lot. Got to Diamond City and now going to spend a while just exploring various locations.

I have been building up Sanctuary as my primary settlement and have it up to 15 people now. Also unlocked the perk so that I can build shops and shit there so it starts to generate me a (small) income and give me somewhere to sell some excess stuff. I had originally planned to have my character as a strength/endurance "tank" type character, with power armour and heavy weapons, I have found that even with that sort of firepower I struggle to go toe-to-toe with some stuff, so I am being forced to play a bit more sneaky. I really enjoy crafting and building though, so I invested virtually all of my perks in crafting - I have Gun Nut, Blacksmith and Armourer all at lvl2, and Science! lvl1 so far (I gave my character low starting intelligence so had to put some points into that to unlock Science!). Generally things are going well, I just found (thanks to a sidequest in a specific area) a really good looking power armour torso piece which I am itching to try.

I really like the system of legendary creatures which drop legendary items. It has a Diablo sort of feel to it, but I like it, and I like the fact that every single weapon and armour can be modded. Finding a nice legendary gun and then boosting it up with my crafting skills, and then obliterating anything that comes my way, is very satisfying. As is walking around in power armour with a minigun, I guess I did end up the way I had planned my character after all.

That sucks, I wanted to have my whole community in a tower with a fence and security all around,

Had my first raider intruder today, sneaked in through the back of the settlement somewhere

Someone has made a mod where John cena's theme plays when you level up

Have you tried building a Multi-story house? The stairs seem to be longer than the walls so the roof doesn't allign properly and there's a small gap between floors. Maybe I did something wrong though.

And there was a small gap between the stairs and the floor which isn't a problem for me but I don't know if the ai will be able to walk past the gap. I must be doing it wrong

Have honestly no idea how this happened but I lost my minigun. Where can I get a new one?

Which stairs are you using? The ones in the wood floors area are probably better

Man I love this game. Hadn't done much of the base stuff but just started building a super structure. Lol it's turned me into a scrap hunter.

Wish there was a better way to manage people's jobs in settlements, like a clipboard or something with the name and what each person is responsible for

Depends on the location. Someone did this on Red Rocket
That's pretty cool. Puts my shitty little fort to shame.

This is nice too

I think it could be a bit tricky building a really cool area because of the supplies. PC people can just use console commands and get whatever they need.

25 hours in to the game and absolutely loving it right now.
Loving the Legendary enemies.

I am yet to tackle building a settlement. Is there anywhere, where its just a flat open space to do whatever I want.
Every place I can build, has a lot of crap there that I don't want for my swazzy HQ

Yeah I'm looking forward to mods that improve on the management aspect of settlements. I've not really been arsed to do much building so far myself.

Just fast traveled to Diamond City and

saw someone get shot. His brother was stood over his corpse and did nothing as I looted it for bottlecaps and his clothes
