Gaming Fallout 4

How is that well said? The guy was giving an honest play opinion as he played it. If you or anyone else don't like what he said just because you so badly want this to be the best game ever!!!! Then ignore him.

A forum is for discussion. You can't just limit one side because you don't like what's being said.

Well said. Bloody hell.

Still really looking forward to it, but my hype has been dampened somewhat by the bugs and frame rate issues. Dialogue/graphics really don't bother me, but crappy performance might. Tempted to leave this for a week or so (as hard as that will be), I'm still only about half way through Witcher 3 ffs.

Complaining about somebody complaining about a game is worse than the person complaining about the game. It's just pure internet fanboyism.

"Waaah, you're ruining the whole game for me, it's the best and you're stupid and feck you! Go away with your opinions".

I suggest the person who doesn't want their game 'spoiled' leave the thread, you're on a forum, people have differing opinions, don't be a big baby.

To be fair as long as they played the game they are entitled to their opinions.

The general consenus to me is that it's more of the same and nothing really groundbreaking. If you enjoyed the previous games which I did then you will enjoy it. But for me the disappointing thing is after six years that is not much has changed and graphically it doesn't look great. Imagine waiting for the next GTA after six years and it's the same as the last one. You'd be a little bit disappointed. I just hate this more of the same culture we are getting in games nowadays. Nobody is innovating.

Also the game was apparently finished in June. So if there are a lot of bugs then there are no excuses. Usually the excuse is we had deadlines and wanted to rush out the game before xmas holidays.

My copy is ready to be picked up in a store. Going there after work.

I haven't played a single minute of this and have barely played an hour of Fallout in my life but THIS IS THE BEST GAME OF CURRENT GENERATION AND POSSIBLY THE BEST GAME EVER WOW I JUST LOVE IT WOW WOW WOW

Slightly off topic but considering what Rockstar managed on PS3 with GTAV, when they release the next GTA it will blow our fecking minds. Such a shame they're yet to release a game that's fully dedicated for the new machines, it's already late 2015 and they don't even have anything announced because they've been too occupied with GTA Online (which is frankly amazing though).

IGN streamed the XB1 version yesterday. I watched bits of it without trying to spoil much and it seemed fine. I'm sure you might run into the odd bug but it looks playable and not as bad as I was expecting.

For reviews I've been watching this guy a lot lately. He doesn't give a score but I've found myself agreeing with his reviews and he seems honest.

Played it for a couple of hours last night before going to bed. Have decided to use it to incentivise me to finish my dissertation this week. No Fallout on any given day until I have done 1000 words.

Wait...why am I still writing on the caf?

Well, this coming out has made me decide i really ought to actually get on with The Witcher 3. I started it and did the first little bit, put it down and totally forgot about it. Thanks Fallout, you're doing God's work.

Just googled his patreon. $11.5k a month for reviewing games. No wonder he left The Escapist.
Yeah it's pretty crazy. Although to be fair he had to take the risk and hope people would back him and from the bit's I've watch of his stuff it's well worth it. His weekly podcast which is the main thing I've watched(Well listen to)is great and also just downright odd(But in a very good way)and then the last video of his I saw was the Jimquisition Halloween special and well you just have to watch it.....

Also anyone who still says Silent Hill 2 is the greatest horror of all time can do no wrong.

Fixed... I hope!

Because I don't wanna hear it, kay?!

But seriously, I did the same thing in the Spectre thread, so I can't really complain, it just seems that guy is complaining for the sake of it, though.

I think he's the same poster who also said Skyrim was shallow, boring, blah, blah. Obviously he has a ridiculously high standard when it comes to games, so to just repeatedly criticise it gets very boring.

I think the problem with Skyrim was how easy it was to get distracted. I put 60-70 hours into the game before I started the main quest, and never finished it cause I'd gotten bored of the game!

That's what was so great about TW3. You could explore and do your own thing but you had to do the main missions to level and progress with the game so I never got too distracted from them. I thought it was the perfect mix of sandbox and linearity.

Fallout 3 on the other hand ... I did every nook and cranny of that.

Pretty similar experience to me. I got bored with the storyline after that hike up to the jedi council building ontop of the mountain. So I just went adventuring after that bit instead for the next 40 hours. By the time I got back to the main story i'd had enough, tried to keep going with it, eventually got to a small ice cave with a bloke talking about scrolls and time travel and thats when the PS3 decided to start crashing the game anytime I walked into water. So I took it as a sign to quit!

Ignore him, then.

He has a right to give his opinion in here. Deal with it.

You played it on the PS3?

Brave guy.

'Kin hell. Chill out! I'm not stopping him from saying anything - he can do whatever he wants. He has his opinion - my opinion is that his repeated reassertion of his opinion is boring.

Well said. Bloody hell.
As I've said before there's lots of good things about this game and many people will love it. I've just mentioned the two things which have been really dissapointing for me and I don't see how it's 'Well Said' that I should just stay quiet about it and trade the game in. What's the point in having a forum if you can only discuss positives.

If you had even actually played the game and found I was wrong about what I said then fair enough

I'm very chilled out.

The bolded part is actually untrue based on your "Well said", seeing as you agreed with a post that basically said he shouldn't say what he wants in here.

Mate, you're entitled to your opinion and I'm sure your criticisms are legitimate. "Well said" was probably the wrong phrase, it was more tongue-in-cheek than anything, after all I think you've actually only made two negative posts, so you're not exactly bombarding the thread.

I'm not trying to censor you.

Gaming - serious business.

I want to apologise again for that comment, nobody should have to stay quiet. I just thought you were complaining for the sake of when I seen post after post but then realised you made an excellent post at the beginning, highlighting both sides. Again though, it's not my place to tell you to do anything. I'll probably end up having a moan about something too when I eventually play it.

ffs. Instead of "Well said" read: I agree that the criticism is a bit monotonous and I would prefer it if that poster would offer a more balanced view of the game instead of just highlighting the shit aspects of it. Which, incidentally, he did at first. So more of the same @Attila!

Look at us, torn apart by a game and now coming together again. The internet is a beautiful place.

 @TooBias shitting it the game won't be as good as he hopes.

EDIT: Ah for feck's sake, lads. Can't you go back to throwing your toys out your respective prams instead of all this making up.

Not going to lie, I buy about 3-4 games a year nowadays, and this is one I've been seriously looking forward to. Probably won't be getting it straight away though, too much work unfortunately.

Most reviews are looking good, anyway. I shan't be disappointed.

If you ask me there's no point in getting games right from the launch anyway. There are always a few bugs to iron out etc. and the price might drop a bit if you wait. And if you don't buy more than a few games each year then you should have plenty of older games to play still, if you desperately need something to play.

Can't see the price of Fallout dropping any time soon - it's huge. But definitely a good idea to wait a few weeks when it's more stable.

Nah, I read it as impressions as he played, nothing more. Why would anyone be the first to do that on here purely to rip it?

And Skyrim is shallow and quite boring after a while. It's not ridiculously high standards to expect games to come out working and pushing on the series/genre. It's standards dropping when people are fine with a last gen engine being used and is still buggy, and with a game that isn't finished and has been rushed.

None of us want to hate this game, especially those of us who remember the originals on release, but I'd take someone commenting on the game as he plays it as a much better thing than the hype and huge promotional budget trying to sell us something they know wasn't quite ready.

It's not being snobby or looking down on gamers who are happy with last gen graphics and bugs and dumbed down games, each to their own, it's about just wanting Fallout 4 to be great and up to standards a game like this should be. But I've yet to play it myself, so I'm hoping to get my enjoyment out of it. That won't stop me being annoyed at all the stupid stuff though ;)

My thing was just that as kind of the only person in the thread who has the game, I'd prefer to see him give a more balanced appraisal rather than focusing on the negatives. There's no doubt it'll have a plethora of flaws, both subjective and objective, it kind of comes with Bethesda territory (and most big-budget, hyped games where the expectation is so much higher).

Anyway, I'll still be getting it at some point. Relative to most other 'big' games it looks pretty damn good.

It's fine. I'm curious to see what everyone else here will think of the dialogue wheel after all this reaction. I might be the only one who dislikes it after all.

My opinion on it is that it just doesn't fit the fallout series as previously you were making a new character from scratch and then you had a choice of what kind of person you would be. Your play style and points allocation would also effect on the dialogue choices you had avalible.

For example before you might have had 3/4 default options then another that could unlock with a high enough medicine or science skill (which have now been removed). This could allow you to have a variety of ways to solve an issue and you would also be able to unlock perks like 'terrifying presence' which also expand the dialogue options.

Because you had all these options you were able to have bigger and more interesting quests. Like in New Vegas you have that cannibal casino quest where you have so many ways to go about it and so many dialogue choices to pick and ways to interegate people.

Right now it's been reduced to 3 options at times as one of the buttons is usually just asking the person to repeat what they said. Are you going to be able to replicate all the choice and potential for complicated quests with only 3 options? I can't see it. It's also troubling that at times you don't even know if the character is going to come out as aggressive, sarcastic or normal when you pick the vague 2 word choice. And because you can't see what the full dialogue is going to be your hesitant to click choices like sarcastic as they can come across as really poor. Although I have been able to notice that it seems to be square for good and 0 for bad which kind of makes it very simplistic when making decisions if you are going for a good or bad playthrough.

I was also used to reading the text faster than the person speaking so I was able to just skip the talking person if it was a mundane conversation. Now I need to listen and even with subtitles the skipping seems a little janky so I'm hesitant to use it. And some of the characters talk at a extremely slow pace which is frustrating...this old granny junkie I met being the obvious example.

I don't feel like my dialogue choices are meaningful anymore and I'm now just following this guys story and his character traits are more predefined than before. I'm not sure who the voice actor is but I didn't want to have a goofy dialogue guy when I was thinking about what kind of way I was going to play.

Removing the dialogue and skills seems to be a step in making the game more accessible to 10 year olds rather than the fans who enjoyed the rpg elements in the previous games.

I'm only 6 hours in so I'm going to keep playing and hopefully my fears about the dialogue and quests being dumbed down are wrong. Reviews seem to have completely skipped this side of the game which is typical so it's why I posted about it a couple of times yesterday.

Also @TooBias , whatever I've said about Skyrim in the past I can't remember. But I did think the main story was very weak, quests were less interesting than previous elder scrolls and that the guild series quests seemed to be watered down compared to Oblivion. It was littered with caves which usually had a couple of bandits in it with some useless loot so I found it to be a shallow game overall. I think I was probably wanting them to make a more interesting location like morrowind rather than the more bland and generic nord environment they went with. I did play it for 100+ hours so I did enjoy it at the time dispite the disappointments.

My standards probably are a bit too high considering I am coming from New Vegas and The Witcher 3 in the past couple of months and I was hoping that Bethesda were going to really improve their writing considering it has been something they have been accused of being weak at in the past.

There's lots of fun too be had in this game though and I don't regret buying it so I'm sure you guys will enjoy it
