Gaming Fallout 4

My thing was just that as kind of the only person in the thread who has the game, I'd prefer to see him give a more balanced appraisal rather than focusing on the negatives. There's no doubt it'll have a plethora of flaws, both subjective and objective, it kind of comes with Bethesda territory (and most big-budget, hyped games where the expectation is so much higher).

Anyway, I'll still be getting it at some point. Relative to most other 'big' games it looks pretty damn good.
I did give my balanced thoughts on it in my first post about it. I was impressed once I was initially in the wasteland and thought the game graphically looked much nicer than I had expected (I didn't watch any footage before it came out apart from a couple of screenshots as I wanted to experience it for myself).

It was only later on in the day after I played more and started speaking to people in the game that I started with some negative posts. I was just left really disappointed as it started off so strongly and the game mechanics are so much better that it was frustrating that one thing would drag down the experience for me like that.

Plus the reviews completely ignored that aspect so I thought I should mention it

That's fair enough, but also bare in mind that people shouldn't think and say happy thoughts for the sake of it.

I think I'm going to hate how dumbed this game is, but the graphics side doesn't bother me too much as that's never been my thing anyway. I'd be annoyed if I was playing it on either console though, all that money and the game runs like shit when both machines are capable of knocking that engine out of the park?

Yeah, I think I'll get it on PC too. After Skyrim, I don't think I can go through another Bethesda game on consoles.

I'm also glad to see people on here criticize some aspects of the game. I've been reading reddit the past week and it's basically one big fallout wankfest over there.

Well Dishonored ran like shit on the PS4 and was only 30fps too. Must be a Bethesda thing.

They have ported Skyrim to the Xbox one, which they said for test purposes. But I expect that to be released next year and I expect that to be the same as Dishonored was.

They have electricity and consoles there too!

What did you do in England to have to run away to Australia though?

Living on a budget and in a share house. Not gonna buy a PS4 out here.

I came out here to see if everything really was upside down.

Have you experienced any problems with randomly floating into space due to not being used to different gravity they have over there?

Gerstmann's not impressed by the performance on consoles.

It's interesting how some reviewers like Jim Sterling who I think gave it a 9.5/10 are claiming they experienced zero framerate problems despite playing it on console like Gerstmann who is saying it was shocking for him. How is that even possible when playing on the exact same hardware

Pete Hines, Vice President of Bethesda, also experienced nothing.

So I've played the first 2 or 3 hours. Was exploring for most of it tbh but I've just fought the
deathclaw
. I've had no performance problems at all. When I started that fight I was expecting it to go to shit based on what I've been reading but it's sticking pretty close to 30fps to my eye. That may change later later in the game I don't know but initial impressions is how smooth it is running.

I can't say much about the game yet other than its a Fallout game so if you like them you will probably like this. Graphics wise it's actually quite pretty wondering around the wasteland at times but when you get close ups of characters they can look a bit last gen. Overall pretty impressed.

How are you finding it? It's pretty smooth for me.

It does? Well shit, I just picked it up for €20. Needless purchase really considering I have Fallout and Soma to be playing.

Also smooth for me so far although I did have framerate problems for the spoiler thing in your other post. Having lots of enemies causes stutters. Also in that building where you find the laser gun outside.

But exploring the wasteland and just walking around it's been smooth so far

Edit - What difficulty did you pick? I went for very hard but it's made enemies bullet sponges so I think I will need to put it down one. feck ghouls

Was more janky animations in that scene for me. Oh crap when do you pick the difficulty have I just skipped over that?

You can change the difficulty in the settings whenever you want. Also you can change the HUD colour and pipboy colour to whatever in the settings which is good.

i just remembered what happened during that deatclaw fight for me. First time I struggled and it killed me in 2 hits. Then I decided to shoot it while hiding behind the car and it was taking all my ammo. Then the deatclaw shot up into the air and died due to fall damage.

Sometimes the jankiness has its advantages

Some of us are actually looking forward to this game. We get it, you don't like it. Trade it in and save us the moaning.
Well said. Bloody hell.
I ordered a phone recently and after the order went through, publicised issues started coming out about build quality of the phone. Concerned, I tried to find more information in communities online, but unfortunately any legitimate information related to my concerns was drowned out by large groups of people loudly discounting the problems without evidence (most didn't even possess the phone yet) or even personally attacking the posters bringing the problem up.

Shouting down others to validate your own purchase is so bizarre logically and absolute cancer to legitimate discussion of something that requires a purchase. Especially to onlookers considering it. Maybe ask the mods to make a 'I Bought This - The Happy Thoughts Thread' thread if you want to be insulated from anything negative about what you've bought or pre-ordered, but get off trying to chase criticism out of the thread.

Quests are crap so far. Nothing interesting but just fighting bandits and ghouls. This is seriously the worst game I've played out of Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 and New Vegas. All of which I've really enjoyed and have played for hundreds of hours.

Great legitimate discussion. Very constructive, will read again.

How isn't that legitimate discusssion?

"Same-y quests which involve fighting NPC goons. Out of its peers and predecessors, this ranks as the weakest installment."

And you're also seemingly twisting the response to this as 'You're not giving us enough information' when the actual reaction was that any negative criticism should be removed from the thread as 'some of us are actually looking forward to playing the game'.

Ok thanks will turn mine up a notch as it has been pretty easy.

Edit:
Interested to know what people's builds are like?

I've gone for mainly perception then charisma & luck

This was all sorted out earlier in the thread, if you read it. Why are you digging up old bones?

Strange. I experienced drops in the
Vault
at the start, which is pretty bad considering
there's not much of note there... wasn't even fighting any of the radroaches at the time

I went for Charisma the highest (8), then endurance and intelligence. The rest are at 1 or 2.

The face models on this are straight out of the 360 era. Rough looking game, with some bad FPS drops on Xbox.

How often do you pick up power cells to charge your power suit?

It's worth using the quick save in this. It does have auto save but I haven't found it as frequent as what I'm used to these days.

It's weird how people's performance is differing. FWIW I haven't downloaded the day 1 update.

I think you can change the frequency of auto saves in the settings as well.

Yeah ignore all the other posts made on the topic...

:annoyed:
Just to be clear, I had no issues whatsoever with your follow up. I actually hope constructive feedback gets relayed to Bethesda because I'd like to see the game be improved.

Back OT: I went for an agi/luk build, but INT is really, really useful. Lots of crafting options, and chems seem very powerful in this game compared to previous.

I have to go and get drunk with work tonight but when I get back I look forward to creating a terrible looking character. Thinking of going of S3 P4 E2 C6 I5 A5 L3. Mainly because I want to be able to mod my own guns and armour, lockpick, do cool settlement stuff etc. Don't really have a proper playing style mapped out yet but those are the main things I want to try out. Plus some of the Charisma perks look pretty rad.

Jesus Christ! I recommend a Xanax, mate. It obviously concerns you more than it does me.

If you actually read my explanation instead of jumping at me like some rabid wannabe e-hero, you'd see that I was simply saying I'd prefer Attila - the only guy with the game - to give more a balanced view of it. Nothing wrong with that - in fact, I'm advocating him discuss on both sides of the positive/negative wall. I even acknowledged that he actually did that initially, and that was a useful insight.
