Falcao

Although I love Falcao and think he is along with RVP and Ibra the best striker in the world, this is a player we definitely don't need. People always say you can never have too many world class players, but what's the point if they all play in the same position? Unless Sir Alex plans on converting Rooney to a proper center mid, pushing Van Persie back and playing Falcao up top?
Regardless, it's probably not true, but just imagine...
Falcao
Kagawa RVP Nani
Rooney Carrick

It helps when you have a period when your leading (world class) striker isn't scoring and the back ones are not doing much either.

In fairness, our wingers have failed to provide them service.

I don't think it is likely that he will come here, but it won't be out of the ordinary if it really happens. Sir Alex isn't really shy when it comes to adding a player he really wants even if we don't exactly need him in the team. Like Berbatov was, our strike force didn't really need any reinforcements back then, but he went for him and splashed 30 million. So if he really wants Falcao and thinks he is important for the depth in the squad, reasons such as development of Danny Welbeck or the amount of transfer fee won't really stop him much.

Where does this shit come from? Can they genuinely wake up and decide to write X, Y and Z and still get people to listen to them? Surely it has to go through some consensus to check the validity or am I living in a dream world?

They do this every time a "big" player comes out and says he is happy at his current club just to fuel to the fire and see what happens.

Marca has strong connections in Madrid, especially Real, so I really wouldn't be disdainful of their claim. That said, nothing will stop a newspaper from reporting on "unlikely" potential signings.
In terms of United, there are midfield worries that should be addressed urgently.
I suspect Falcao will end up at Real, with Torres going home to Atletico.

I really doubt about Rooney being sold. Sir Alex went through the trouble of convincing him to stay after the whole ambition gate and offered him a mighty wage, so there is a really low chance that he will let him go when he'd fetch less than he would have then.

We didn't have RVP then and our other strikers are getting more experienced. Besides, the whole point was that we'd only sign Falcao if we sold Rooney, so it's not like we'd be left high and dry without him. If we don't sell Rooney then I'm confident we wont be spending upwards of £40 mill on another striker.

Fergie's new tactics are hilarious. 'So we didn't win the title... we need a new striker'. 'So we got knocked out the champions league... we need a new striker'

But this is paper talk. It doesn't really look like a Fergie signing at all. It's most probably nonsense.

I also don't believe RVP was ever a primary target, and we were focused mostly on creative players, landking Kagawa and Powell, and also getting within touching distance of Hazard and Moura. But when Wenger submitted defeat in keeping RVP, and RVP himself expressed his desire to join United, you can't really pass that sort of opportunity up.

That's far too much sense to be speaking in the transfer forum, I can tell you're new here.

06/07 - we win the title, we sign Tévez
07/08 - we win the double, we sign Berbatov

Safe to say it has nothing to do with knee-jerk reactions to any perceived lack of success, he just likes buying strikers. Always has done. It's generally served us well throughout his time here too. It's because he has this fondness for forwards that journalists can get away with making stories up about it every single summer, and people like you will lap it up...

I can only really see this happening if Rooney wants to go in the summer.

I still think our top priority has to be another holding midfielder at least in the quality bracket of Carrick if not better.

If it's a creative type like Modric or a box to box type player like Vidal, I don't care just someone who provides some defensive and offensive quality in midfield and isn't constantly out with injuries.

Why would United spend a fortune on a striker? It's one area of the squad you don't need strengthened.

Because ferguson obviously loves his strikers. We've needed a midfielder for the past 5 years but yet we've signed tevez, berbatov, Hernandez and van persie in that time, even though we weren't ever really short on strikers. Apart from 07/08 we haven't signed a midfielder either.
Obviously he's a great player and would improve anyone, but the only way this could happen was if Rooney is being turned into a midfielder and welbeck a permanent winger, which isn't that crazy of a suggestion.

It's probably just someone trying to help Madrid along to making a bid.

How many times do we hear this exact same gripe? Most of you didn't want RvP.

I don't think anyone is saying that they wouldn't love to have a player of Falcao's quality in the squad, but rather that if we have a limited transfer budget then we would be better blowing our wad on other places.

Current Strikers at the club playing well all season and improving - 4 and then add Kagawa already for next year.

Current Midfielders at the club playing well and improving - 1 although I still have some faith in Clev's and I think Zaha will be a superstar so that'll make 3 going into next year.

It's pretty gaping at this stage.

I don't disagree on the midfield issue; we definitely need a new CM. That doesn't mean we can't also buy a new striker though. We're an extremely wealthy football club.

hugely wealthy and with all the deals going down at the moment along with the increased TV revenue for next season we could potentially get into that super rich, money no object group this summer. I honestly don't care how much of the Glaziers money we spend so if we buy Falcao and also another 2-3 top players then I'll be delighted, but can you really see us spending 100-150 million on players in one summer?

Really don't want him. He'll cost us our entire budget and we need a midfielder and hell even a winger far more desperately.

I always love it when people start criticizing a manager over a RUMOURED transfer. Marca gets held up alot as being accurate, when in truth it reports as many BS rumours as every other media outlet. So for now I will take this with a grain of salt.

Though part of the rumour includes that we have made the first payment already. If that took place in March, then when the first quarter financial results are released we should see some interesting figures in terms of payments for players. If the payment took place in April, then by time the 2nd qtr figures are released we probably would have already had the official announcement.

Obviously Falcao is a great talent and it would be great if we signed him. The question that we all have is where does he play or what does it mean for other players. Rooney is a popular subject for thoughts of moving to another position or being sold. But what about Hernandez, could it be him on the way out as some rumours have suggested?

I actually could see us spending 100mil or so on player this summer, especially if it is offset by some sales.

I think if we were going to go crazy with spending it would be Ronnie that's the first target.

Yep, here it is

Hope not.

I would prefer the bloke below

On the money issue, we spend around 70 million quite often every summer, it's usually just buying a few players for 15-20 million each in positions we don't think we need. If we sell a few players then I can easily see us spending around 100million this summer on new players.

Atletico in desperate attempt to get the sharks circling and the bidding war going.

The last time there was talk of us having made a pre-transfer part payment for an Athletico Madrid player (Fernando Torres), he moved to Liverpool a few months later :)

I think most fans on here would rip it off if we signed Falcao but I dont see it happneing...probably jsut his agents way of stoking up interest in his man and trying to get another club to panic and pay silly money
iBale is the player I would most like us to sign this summer as he can improve and would stay for life and has a great attitude...I could never see Ronie coming back here so Bale would be super...but doubt that will happen also....Lets get Ross Barkely early I say before his value hits 30 million quid in a year or two!!!

Can you sms this to SAF, please? Or at least to Ronaldo, so he can pass along for us?
