Falcao

SAF denies Falcao rumours outright first and then openly flirts with Lewandowski rumours without confirming anything. All makes sense now that you put it that way.

And everyone doing the lineups above needs to put Bebe in Midfield. Then we can play 5 strikers without a worry.

It's all falling into place, the building up of the ultimate strike force with Bebe a WMD we have been developing under the radar!

Sid Lowe saying people in Spain reporting Falcao could be moving to AS Monaco. The feck?

Edit: They've triggered his release clause apparently and Lowe also says the source are not known to make things up.

We need another marquee signing. Falcao or Ronaldo would really lift the squad again and make sure some of the players have belief in Moyes.

Monaco owner bought an $88m apartment in New York for his daughter, he'd have no trouble paying £40m for a footballer. He's crazy rich and has the interest in Monaco.

Well they have got one of those billionaire Russians in charge.

Not only that, AS Monaco is outside France's jurisdiction (despite being under the same FA) which means what? That's right, no taxes for non French individuals.

This is bizarre. Falcao to Monaco is starting to gain some serious momentum.

Would be a shame to see Falcao move there. Hes apparently a player who puts family first and money isnt a very important factor. He could move to any club in the world, so this would just be mental. Then again Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva did move to France, but had champions league football. Falcao needs to grace the worlds biggest club competition.

$88m apartment. fecking hell. I can't see it happening. He could choose virtually any club in the world to go to. They'd all pay him a fortune too.

Money definitely killing the game

Really?

These rich French and Russian clubs are resulting in a greater spread of elite talent. Do you think that it would have been better if all their stars were concentrated in the hands of 5 or 6 Spanish and English clubs?

I dont buy into this money killing the game idea, now that so many teams are rich the playing field is a bit more even. Plus i hold some kinda of hope that FFP might actually mean something

I'll bet you £50 he goes for over €40m.

Let's say a donation of £50 to the caf :smirk:

Very good news for us. Don't think we were ever seriously interested and means he avoids Chelsea or City.

He would really be wasting his talents if he were to go there, and we'd see another very gifted striker go to a team which has nothing but money, much like Eto'o did.

Still, if we don't make any move for him in the end, I'd much rather he goes there than to Chelsea or City, that would be devastating.

Monaco the new Psg?

They weren't averse to a bit of unsustainable spending themselves in the 1990s.

Yeah if Falcao is to leave, I'd rather it's not to Chelsea/Real/United on the basis that it gets a bit tedious if the quality is hoarded by a small handful of clubs.

It should result in a more interesting Champions League in the medium term.

I reckon money is a very important factor if you put family first. Why else would he move away from a country that speaks their native language, away from a team that's going to be in the CL to a team that has just won a promotion to a worse league than the one he's currently playing in?

Money is always a factor.

What happens if Ligue 1 boots Monaco for not paying taxes? The only reason Monaco would be enticing for players is the money(particularly tax free). It would be disappointing to see the best striker in the world go to a team that's currently in Ligue 2.

I'm sure it's just a ploy to get the deal he wants elsewhere.

In an era where economies are facing austerity measures, rich oil oligarchs throwing money around like a game of monopoly is a danger for everyone - clubs, fans, players and the game. Malaga ownership came in promising similar and a couple of years later might pull out together, PSG are likely looking at a clear out of their own, Chechen billionaire thug bought & subsequently destroyed Neuchâtel Xamax en Suisse. City is reviled but at least they have invested in a youth setup and infrastructure with an eye to it being a longterm project rather than a toy. Chelsea seems to have stayed with their project but no one can claim there's any real ethos to that club.

I liked the idea of FFP but clearly there are loopholes that clubs are bypassing - personally, I like the idea of a salary cap with opportunities to augment your salary through marketing (Shirt sales and media rights a bit like RM carry out). Won't be very interesting much less competitive if there are a handful of rich owners outbidding one another for the biggest talents in Europe. Personally, I'm most concerned about Qatari money trying to corner the market on football and media rights - from there, manipulation is fairly straightforward.

Money is nice but it not only does not guarantee success (RM says hello) but it breeds instability

P.S. Falcao's new boots, btw :wenger:

If anything, it's becoming so widespread that it is returning it to decades ago when great players could be found all over the shop.

Exactly - stops one or two clubs from buying the best players every year. Real and Barca and the like no longer have it their own way and a few leagues will definately benefit - as well as the CL.

United used to do it when other teams couldnt compete. The money was generated by the club, but it didnt make the PL any less entertaining.

The suggestion seems to be that if Monaco pay £50 million for a player is "killing the game" but if the club you support does it its a masterstroke? What people are actually pissed off about is that whichever player isnt signing for their club.

Aye, cause I'm sure any other team wanting him will offer peanuts compared to the giants of Monaco.

Would be a surprising move if he did go to Monaco, but in the end I'd prefer him to go there over coming to the premier league for another club.

Maybe he's got his sights on the 2014/15 Europa League campaign. He seems to love that competition.

 so true. Really hope he won't come to City or Chelsea. His style is really suit this league, and can see him become an instant success here.

They could well have met his buyout clause but he could just as easily say "no".
