The right mediocre can still be can an improvement for us. So we won't have a world class midfield, if you need to get that all done in one summer without oil money or whatever, it might not happen. But if we've got a good functional midfield (which we haven't always in recent years) and the team gels right, we can still be quite terrific with the class we've got everywhere.

We still need to sign that right mediocre player, though. Plenty of time, but I have to say I didn't expect to find us at the start of August without having an idea in which direction we might be going.

Carrick is very good, Cleverley has been good at times, Anderson is good for a few matches a years, Giggs doesn't have the legs or maybe the mentality to play as a midfield player. I don't even want to consider him as an option. The way I see it, we have one proven midfielder and one semi proven midfielder. The rest can't be counted on. A Cabaye (not necessarily himself, but a player of that level) would be an improvement on what we've got. Because we haven't got much. It shouldn't be like that, but it has become that.
