Fabregas

To be fair a lot of managers started last month. I find it hard to believe that Moyes wasn't in contact with anybody at the club during June though. I mean wasn't our interest in Thiago started during the U-21 tournament, which was in June. We also apparently asked about Cesc back in May.

So this starting in July just seems like a poor excuse to me.

One thing for sure is I am struggling to take any positives of our transfer dealings in or out thus far this summer.

Early August and nobody in and Rooney situation still very much up in the air.

Fergie would have sorted shit out one way or another by now.

Moyes start has been far from smooth, some harsher folk may call it a shambles.

The only thing that matters is whether or not we have players in by the end of the window - that's when the judgement of the window should be made. The rush to dismiss it as a failure is worrying.

They've signed decent players but nobody near the level of Fabregas.

True. But they've still taken steps to address the issues they had in their squad. We haven't. Say what you will about City's acquisitions but they're still good players. They've had the full pre season to settle in and they're well set for the season's opener. In comparison, all our business is up in the air. Can only speak for myself, but it would've been nice to have everything in place by now, especially since we don't have the Fergie safety net anymore.

If rumors are to be believed we offered £30m knowing £36 plus add ons would've clinched the deal....so possibly not hard enough!
You fecking idiot! You're using some twitter bullshit to attack the club! What a load of shit.

Just as expected, I'd be surprised if anyone here are actually disappointed of the outcome. It's been so plain obvious from day 1 that it just won't happen.

If Fabregas was just using Uniteds interest to improve his position then what exactly should United have done differently, given that they probably can't read minds? They have to try for that level of player when there's a chance.

If United had played it safe, just bought Fellaini and McCarthy in July, would anyone be raving about how decisive they had been? No they wouldn't.

It's about the expectation levels that are set by going after Thiago & Cesc - anyone like Fellaini will now be seen as a downgrade.

Tbh, it's getting to the point where I'll take anyone half decent. We're fecked if Carrick spends any time out of the side.

If Ando can step up this season, and Cleverly continues to improve then we are relatively okay but my main concern would be if Carrick got injured.

You're not really happy at our inactivity though, are you?...
Absolutely not. I'd have thought we'd have made some quality additions before the season started. So it's bad. But also in a bit of a laughable way given how it's all happened.

Given the choice of starting the season with our squad as it is or City's I'd happily take ours. It seems to be forgotten in the midst of the worry about not strengthening that we still have the best squad in the league.

No wonder Arsenal haven't been able to do any proper business themselves this summer, Wenger's too worried about our targets. He's just come out saying that he's told Cesc will stay one more year. Aside from discussing the veracity of his comment, has Wenger been tapping his ex-captain up?

I disagree. City's biggest issue last season wasn't their squad depth/quality...

Definitely not clear cut which squad is better.

We'd be fecked - yes.

I don't care if we get Fabregas or not. What I want is a DM of reasonable competency who can cover for Carrick. The complete rebuilding of our CM can wait. We don't need a player like Fabregas to do well in the league, which is the most important thing right now. But we do need some bodies in the middle. We simply can't rely on Carrick to that extent - it's a huge gamble.

And, for the record, of course Moyes and the big E could be working on several fronts at the same time: They hopefully are. But time is drawing uncomfortably near. It would be a relief to get someone in at least a week before the bloody season kicks off.

Everybody has an opinion. I wouldn't want players like Lescott being my main back up centre back nor would I swap their strikers for ours. They're better in central midfield but that's it. Our fans underrate our squad.

Barca are hardly a selling club. If they wanted to keep Fab, and he wasn't prepared to throw his toys out of the pram, it would surely take a mouth-watering offer to tempt them. Why start with £25m? It never made much sense.

Except as the action of a new kid on the block, inexperienced, uncertain, feeling his way, who didn't really know what he was doing. Maybe Woody thought, 'I'll do the usual - start small and work up. Eventually I may hit on a figure they'll accept.' But you can't prize a valued player from a top club like that.

Unless we knew that Barca were open to offers, or needed the money, we couldn't hope to get Fabregas for anything less than a mega bid. Which we didn't make.

We'd comfortably the best squad last season. They've added some players that have never played in England before and a manager new to the country. I'll not be pulling my hair out just yet.

Wenger after Gala game

”What I know is that Fabregas will stay one more year at least. If that changes, I don’t know. I’ve been told.”

Yeah but something prompted our interest. I suspect they probably wanted more cash.

Unless he was, in some shape or form, prepared to throw his toys out of the pram. Which I personally believe he was, and perhaps still is. Everything isn't hunky dory between Fabregas and the club, that's why we went for him in the first place. If there had been nothing but a punt in the dark we wouldn't have wasted any effort on it. Woodward is new in his chair, but the people who appointed him and who have no doubt briefed him about this and that and the other thing - are anything but.

Try a little harder. There's one tiny corner of obnoxious stupidity you've yet to explore.
You truly are a chump. You have proven yourself, this evening, to be a copper plated bellend, with your nonsense about the club no longer in safe hands. I take it you are prone to panic attacks and knee jerk reactions? You are trying to talk down to me from your high ground, but in reality you are flapping in a sea of denial. You cocked up with that post, now just find a corner and go and lie in your own pish.

You found it!

True. Fernandinho is upgrade over Barry.

Navas is decent, but I'm happy the signed him rather than Isco. Same can be said about Negredo. If they signed Cavani then I would have been worried.

All their transfer targets apart from Fernandinho seem downgrades because they couldn't get their main targets.

Don't be so naive. There's shit summer transfer activities cost them last season.

I would also say losing Tevez for Negredo is weakening them rather than strengthening.

City under performed. Shit happens sometimes. Real finished way behind barca last season. They're definitely not that far behind.

There is no rule that players who haven't played in England before can't improve an English team. They seem to have bought well.

And noone's pulling their hair out.

It's like that Coldplay song: if you never try then you'll never know. Stuck in reverse.
