I don't disagree with that. Question is though, have we even put in a third bid? It's just weird that having been quite open about our advances that everything's suddenly gone silent. Makes me worry a little that we've given up the ghost. Granted, my fears are based on absolutely nothing.

Which is the same as my optimism. There again, I am not one to lay down and believe any of it. :D I will believe it is dead in the water, the day after transfer deadline.

Isn't it about time the thread title was changed to something like, 'silence from all parties' or 'no further news', because that RTE bollocks isn't fooling anyone.

I must admit, I did get excited when I first saw the title change. Thought it was something serious.

No.

It is serious. It came from Jake's mouth.

Yeah but there's no chance to we'll put in a fourth bid or something. We're just haggling really, I suspect we'll have our man once we near their valuation.

United needs to freaking increase the charge on the defibrillator if they are going to have a chance at keeping the deal alive. Time for caution, for just upping the charge a bit at a time has passed - now it's give it all it's got and if nothing then time to pronounce the death FFS !!!!

I reckon we'd have kept quiet had we not been uber confident. Who knows eh? Valderrama is looking a great option.

Fair. His next tweet will probably be: "Ed Woodward is leaving MUFC's Australia tour early to conduct urgent transfer business"

 nah it would be more along the lines of "my understanding is that Ed Woodward left Australia on urgent transfer business, but my sources tell me that nothing is imminent".

More like: "Sources suggest that, Moyes will take over as new manager at United".

Nah, in a couple days time he's going to tweet that "sources are telling me that over at the caf, they think I'm a bellend".

Has Nurse tweeted about the birth of the royal baby yet? If not expect him to tweet that the birth of a boy is imminent.

The only question remaining, is will we hit 300 pages by the Charity Shield?

Just for the record, RTE news have broken 1 story in their history. It was about a bank. In Ireland.

The smokescreen theory in print:

http://hereisthecity.com/2013/08/02...manchester-united-a-smokescreen-to-sign-rona/

We have nothing like this in the US. Basically, what we do is draft players from college (or even high school) and then they typically play through and renew their contracts. Free agents come along now and then. Trades do happen, of course, all the time. But I can't recall in all the years I've followed American sports anything quite like the drama that we've seen with high-profile United transfers in recent years. Ronaldo, Berbatov, van Persie and now this -- absolute madness.

If Ronaldo comes home and Fabregas never happens, can it be plausibly denied that Thiago and then Fabregas were both "smokescreens"?

So you think we could genuinely be in for both Ronaldo and Fabregas? Perhaps, but the price tag together would be at least 100m and then you have waged to worry about, which I would think would be at Rooney's current level.

For someone who "takes a back seat to no one on RedCafe with respect to the meaning of words", you seem to be confused on the meaning of 'plausibly'. Yes, I think it is plausible that Manchester United were in for Thiago and Ronaldo. Or Fabregas and Ronaldo. Or Thiago and then after failing moved on to Ronaldo. Or Fabregas and then after failing moved on to Ronaldo. Or maybe all three.

Well, there's also the Rooney situation to deal with. That is too say if United get Fabregas and sell Rooney to Chelsea. Perhaps, with similar wages and transfer fees, Rooney and Fabregas would effectively be a swap deal of sorts.

Martino: "I've talked to Cesc, I explained him my idea. Of course we want him to stay, he's one of our best players. It's up to him."

If that happened, Rooney would be gone.

Promising enough that.
