This shit still going? Hope you guys got a plan B other than Modric.
Don't worry. We've got quality footballers like Fellaini, Barry, Huddlestone and Parker to go to if this doesn't work out.

No, seriously though. Fabregas isn't going to leave Barcelona. Which realistic targets other than Modric are United looking at?

Whoever we're actively bidding for is realistic as far as I'm concerned. I refuse to believe we're bidding blindly, surely we've more sense than that.

Yeah, feck off Vato with your 'Oh look at me, my team can sign three midfielders every year, it's great!'

It's okay, his club are about to replace Cristiano Ronaldo with Gareth Bale.

This transfer saga is pretty crap, isn't it? The Thiago thread was a lot more fun, this is just a long bleak wait for news that never comes.

Add James McCarthy to the list.

£45m, just do it. There is no-one better suited in world football to partner Carrick within our setup.

Agreed, but there are alternatives of lesser quality that could spark an awakening in our general play by taking the midfield by the scruff. We may have to be creative if this falls through...

So what do we reckon lads - does this sudden silence indicate that something could be in the offing or are we now too embarrassed to say anything having been privately shafted by Cesc?

I still hold out hope, though it's fading.

In this transfer, no news is certainly good news.

No more Barca statements.

If United give up, will we hear about it? I doubt Moyes is going to comment just to say 'we've given up, we're not in for him any more.' So maybe no news isn't necessarily good news.

I dunno, I can imagine him saying similar to what he did last time: "we tried, I never said we'd get him."

We may not even have bid yet. I think people are being naive when they think that if we have a bid rejected on a Friday, we'll go back first thing on Saturday morning with a new one. You just end up looking desperate and you end up getting rinsed for even more money. It doesn't take time to work out these bids, beyond getting board approval. All it is is a combination of letting Barca stew and seeing if anything changes in the interim.

It isn't naivety, we just believe that we aren't stupid enough to bid again without being sure of our position. It is a belief that Moyes isn't about to pop into work and say, "Anybody fancy a bid, pick a number".

I don't disagree with that. Question is though, have we even put in a third bid? It's just weird that having been quite open about our advances that everything's suddenly gone silent. Makes me worry a little that we've given up the ghost. Granted, my fears are based on absolutely nothing.
