Fabregas

In fairness, it was all brought on by Carlos whathisname.

Maybe that we've been making big noise, yet we're 10days from the Charity Shield with no real chance of a signing?

Still, I appreciate your hopefulness. I was like you. 2-3weeks ago.

And you think this is Moyes' fault?

Did you blame SAF when Hazard, Moura et al didn't come?

I honestly believe there is a greater chance of a signing or two, this summer, with Moyes in charge than there would have been with SAF still running the show. Moyes isn't as confident to run with what he has, whereas SAF was more of a wily old fox, who could make things happen on the pitch. Additionally, Moyes will definitely have the Rooney thing at the forefront of his mind.

I have faith and won't give up until the final whistle.

Question is, how far down in his pecking order will Moyes go in order to get a signing. Also questionable how big is his list of possibilities. He isn't likely to have complete knowledge of players in the sort of level and cost we'll be looking for. Obviously the scouting team will have done their work but he may still hesitate to sign someone he hasn't seen enough of himself.

I am pretty sure SAF did a proper hand-over to Moyes, don't worry too much about his list. SAF will not have abandoned Moyes.

I shudder to think what Moyes would think if he read this "fan's forum".

I really hate football experts. (Please don't take this comment as a swipe at you, I mean this generally, in this forum full of spoiled brats. :D)

I'm liking the silence, something must be happening. It's the quiet before the storm, and it's oh so quiet.

Where does the £160m we've spent on players since 2009 fit into your conspiracy theory?
Probably somewhere in the fact that we've actually had a cash outflow of around £10m a season on transfers in the last 4-5 years, which is very low in comparison to our title rivals:

City: Around £70m a season
Chelsea: Around £60m a season

Hell even Liverpool have been investing around £20m a season (poorly) lately

We have been spending very, very modestly in comparison to our income and rivals in recent years (not a bad thing of course, given our trophy cabinet). A transfer for £40-50m should not only not be something all our fans are really cautious about. With the squad we have it should be something we are aiming to do yearly to improve the squad.

I'm sure Fergie will lend any hand he's asked to (though he might refuse when it comes to midfielders ), but ultimately the bucks stops with Moyes now. Will he sign a player based on other people's knowledge?

I am sure he will listen to SAF. In fact I don't think Moyes is as headstrong as people think.

What's Moyes doing watching the Swansea game? Go sign some Spaniards you bastard!

In the last 3 seasons we've spent around £90m nett. More than enough to buy a central midfielder. For one reason or another Sir Alex chose not to. Doesn't fit the narrative that was being portrayed.

I presume you realise you're are setting the arbitrary time scale a year after having a negative spend of £65m?

There's a large difference between spending £90m on 9 players under £22m (whilst letting a similar number go) and going out and spending big on one player to fix a problem area. Ask Arsenal fans if you are cynical.

I don't think anyone can say that our transfer policy in the last five years has been particularly exciting. It does seem we have tried to sign a few more ambitous buys but failed in each attempt, RVP excluded.

We have bought some good youngsters though and generally found value.

Every year though, our biggest CL rivals buy at least one or two top, top calibre players.

Calm the feck down. You've been throwing the toys out of the pram for days now. At this rate you'll be left with just the dummy to spit in no time.

But he's been starving for years, he just needs to be fed a CM.

Well yeah. It's more relevant because there isn't a one off freak sale. We spent close to £50m last summer. How does that equate to having no money? Yes, there is a difference between spending big on one transfer or buying a load of players for £50m. The main one being it's cheaper to make the bigger signing as you're only having to pay one wage afterwards rather than three.

Significantly more than that, in fact. £50mil last season (£44mil net spend). £35mil the season before (£30mil net). £100mil the season before that (£35mil net).

Over that period they've outspent us, hilariously.

The difference is that one big transfer can be a colossal waste or it can step you up a level.

There was a minute chance (if any) that every single one of De Gea, Young, Smalling, Jones, Zaha, Powell, Hernandez, Bebe, Kagawa would all be wastes of money. Each Summer we've "made" it so it's more than likely that we've kept the squad roughly as strong as the previous year.

Since Berbatov signed we've played it extremely safe every Summer, quietly signing a combination of good young prospects, good squad players and a few hopeful punts. Obviously this is good business which has included great, but very safe buys (Smalling, Hernandez, Jones, De Gea, Kagawa, Valencia). The most risky transfer since Berbatov was signing the Premier League's top scorer the previous season (ie not very).

I believe the difference is that if we went out and signed Fabregas for £45m - that would be our Summer spending done and we'd be solely judged on his performances.

It takes a lot of stones to put £10,000 on a hand of poker... 100 hands worth £100, not so much.

By my reckoning they've spent c.£40m last year, £35m year before, -£5m year before, -£9m year before

I can't believe how this one has died such a painful death. Just fecking sign a midfielder!

This just got serious. We don't just want a midfielder anymore, we want a fecking midfielder!

Imagine he agreed terms and was announced the same day as Ronaldo....

Genuinely, I think I would probably ejaculate. Genuinely.

I'd piss meself and down tools no matter where I was. Hit the boozer and get a skinful into me to celebrate. Finish off with a kebab and a wank and fall asleep with me jocks around me ankles in front of the TV with grand designs on the telly.
