Fabregas

Fabregas has been very good whenever I have seen him despite being out of position. His only problem appears to be that he is not interested in their inane tiki taka nonsense. Would fit our midfield perfectly, 50m would be overpriced but we won't find anyone better

I think that was VAT which is usually fully reclaimable anyway.

No, it's taxes on profit or something like that. If we give Cesc money, than those money are taxable cause are incomes.

Considering the prices that are being attached to players who haven't even made their mark at the highest level both internationally and at club level... see Falcao, Cavani, Suarez and Bale... £40 odd million for a guy who'd make such an impact both on and off the pitch for us doesn't seem to be a financial gamble. His shirt sales would produce ridiculous numbers, he'd be more popular than RvP and he'd affect our style of play more than anyone in the club as he is a play-making midfielder. Sort of player you build a team around and he plays in a vital position.

Bottom line is we can't afford to go into next season with the midfield we have and playing priorities come first, if money needs to be spent on improving the team... just pull your finger out and do it, we'll make plenty of money back when we make waves in europe and retain the title.

Xavi on Fabregas:

"He’s relaxed", Xavi was quoted by Voetbal Primeur as saying. "He has a contract here and everything else is speculation.

"We’ll see what happens, but he’s ready for the new season with Barcelona."

Who exactly are you talking to? You having a Boo Radley moment?

apparently the sticking point is that Barca want Fab to buy his own contract out, this way Arsenal wouldnt be entitled to a penny and Barca would get the full whack. However, Barca want 46m to buy out the contract, which is more than we value him at, meaning Fab would have to pick up the difference

Is this Admin privilege information :D or is there a link?

So is this 3rd bid going to materialise then?

Either it's dead, or the negotiations are top secret & he'll be announced as a United player this week.

It was made between yesterday and today apparently. I'm sure Cider will be more than happy to point out when exactly that was...

(awaits 11am joke)

Ah ok. Well I guess then it depends on if we give the cash to Fabregas or pay it on his behalf to Barca, or if we give it to him and then he pays it, do they net off? Too complicated for me!

I wonder if a nice sub plot might develop if Barca do want Luiz and potentially need some cash to fund the transfer. Could end up with Rooney, Fabregas and Luiz all moving as knock on affects, although that only ever pops up in newspapers.

Nah. Last week we were "weighing up" whether to make a bid. This week we are "preparing our bid", and next week we will "submit our offer". A three-step process.

Yep, NBA-esque

He'll be a United player by September. We can't possible jus only buy him though.

Fabregas is refusing to move to us until we bring Phelan back.

I agree that £50m would probably be overpriced, but we should pay it anyway. We're going to have to pay over the odds of we want the world's top players. I'm sure the club are aware of that which is why I still think there's more to this situation than Moyes is letting on.

Spunk 50 million him. He'll pay for himself through shirt sales and all that.

T
I've nothing more to say on the matter!
I have a sneaky feeling you'll have more to say. Sure, the post might not be informative or even any good really, but you'll say something. You know it Colin.

I'm sure Nike will be very grateful.
And united.

On a more serious note, I've always wondered whether this fixed fee we take from shirt sales actually works out to be better or worse than the industry standard percentage we would otherwise take on sales.

Well you can guarantee that United would have been doing their sums on that considering we're in the middle of a negotiating period for the renewal of the contract.

Knowing the Glazer's and their business acumen, I'd assume so. Either that or they preferred to hedge their risk with the fixed fee income + etc.

That title should be withheld until he actually does something worthwile. The lazy, long traveling bastard

Just want to know if he's safe and sound, as long as Woody comes back in one piece I couldn't give a toss about new signings.

That's the point. You'd have to hedge the risk. Because the fixed fee will always be inaccurate. We'd want to go for a higher estimate as buffer and nike would want to keep it conservative. I've wondered how you agree on a fixed value when it just makes sense for it to be based on sales. I guess hedging works.
