Fabregas

Of course we made it public.

We've never had any problem keeping transfers private when we wanted to before, why would Fabregas be so different?

So you think we leaked it rather than dirty Dein? What would be our motive?

Almost all our big name and big money transfers/bids have been public. It's the low and mid ranged money transfers that have been quieter.

I think our stealth on the transfer market is overstated.

I'd say they've been "made public" as in there were rumours here or there but not nearly to the extent where the BBC and Sky are full on saying "have made a bid off £xx", and certainly SAF rarely went to the lengths of actually saying anything in public about it.

It's quite clear we made the Fabregas bid public knowledge ourselves, I'm not sure how/why anyone is debating against that. It's basically saying "you're all saying it's embarrassing the club made this public, shame on you, uh .. the club didn't make it public!"

Look at this lovely player we are trying to get you? I don't know, really. But Moyes has certainly moved on from his first press conference and has talked a little about the situation with Fabregas whenever he's been asked since.

I doubt that. If they wanted to do that they would simply have stuck in an offer for £60m for Ronnie and see what happens. At least he has made it clear he would like to return one day.

With all the stuff Zidane is saying about Bale, why can't we have the likes of SAF, Bobby Charlton, Brian Robson, Cantona, Giggs, Scholes, Gary Neville Uncle Tom Cobley & all etc spouting off about how right Fabregas would be for United every day in the press? Instead all we get is Robson (wasn't it) saying we don't need anyone (I may be mistaken on that ). And bidding a proper fee wouldn't have gone a miss either. Give them something to think about instead of fannying around with poxy £25m bids. We laughed when Chavski offered £20M for Rooney, & rightly so, so how can we expect Barca to capitulate for such a, comparatively, lowly fee?

Well? What news from the Catalan wankers today?

Thanks 7dan, can you get a time machine and transport me back to yesterday too while you're at it? I had a great wank last night and I'd love to go again.

Well we could, but unfortunately we're not massive, egotistical twats.

BBC haven't reported the bid, they've just reported that MEN reported the bid and stuck Cesc's photograph up on the BBC Sports page to get people to click the live update thing.

The Lucas Moura incident was almost exactly like this current one.

Good thing I was talking about the first two bids and not this one then.

Hence "rarely". SAF did openly come about about Moura after a substantial amount of time (i.e. not at the very start) but at the time he did basically look like he was ours and was seemingly a far more obtainable target than Fabregas was and we were basically just shafted by the bottomless pit of money that is PSG in the end.

I'm not blaming the club for making it public by the way, not until we know the full story at least, I just think it's a bit mad that some are trying to say it wasn't us who made it public.

Dyslexic does Scholes sounds like a massive egotistical twat in that interview? You're talking about one player that's retired and at the minute not working for the club.

You said though:

Yet that's exactly what they did with our bids four Lucas.

Scholes is an exception. He's always been an egotistical twat. That lad couldn't get enough of the limelight.

I don't understand quite why these bids are met with such pessimism. It's better than the summer's where people wondered why we didn't bid for Scott Parker and actually considered Charlie Adam coming here. Lest we forget Jordan Henderson was a possibility once (thank feck Yolkie was wrong). Even if we do just end up with Fellaini I like how midfield is no longer the massive elephant in the room. I do think if we're bidding such money on Fabregas perhaps we could look elsewhere, *cough* Gündogan.

Obviously not. I was quoting a post that asked why ex players, among them Scholes, were not in the media advocating the signing of Fabregas. Shark implied that the reason we didn't do that was that we're not twats. I'm not saying we are, just that Scholes has in fact been in the media about Fabregas. I don't think the point Shark was making was that you need to "sound like a massive twat" when you do your interviews. It was probably more that we as a club, and our ex players, don't do that because doing it is twattish.

Liking the sound of this.

@barcastuff: Xavi: "Cesc rumours? It's speculation, he's calm. He's training hard, he's very motivated. He has a contract and is important for the team."

That's not exactly positive for us mate?

Xavi has got to be looking for a job with Barca post retirement. He is always the politician and very much tows the party line. You have to admire him as a professional.

I wonder what is "speculation", the bids aren't in doubt, so it must be his want-away status?

Of course it was Utd who made this public. The easiest way to unsettle a player is by letting the media do your bidding for you.

I knew I had heard something very similar to this recently:

Mundo say that when they pressed Mazinho he said he knew 'nada' about which club his son had chosen to sign for. Nada is creeping into English itself but means 'nothing', the Brazilian is also claimed to have said that his son is "Calm, because he has a contract.

Calm and contract is the Spanish way of saying the transfer is being worked on. :nervous:

I don't think I was responding to you anyway, I was just posting my observation from my phone. I noticed someone said the BBC were running the story too but didn't see who.

 I love how they give us an explanation of what "nada" means.

I remember reading an article in the sun and they had 2 figures in there and they were so nice to add the 2 figures for all the readers who had problems with simple addition.
