If we don't land Fabregad it's a;most certainly going to be a very underwhelming summer for Man United.
Wish I could say the same about some of our CL rivals who, as usual, have snapped up some top, top draw talents.
Manchester United WILL return to Barcelona with a third bid for Cesc Fabregas and believe the player wants to come to Old Trafford.
Despite already having bids of £26m and £30m rejected by the Spanish giants, the 26-year-old remains the the Reds' No.1 transfer target.
United’s third offer will break the club’s record £30.8m, which they paid Spurs for Dimitar Berbatov in 2008.
Publicly, Barcelona have said Fabregas is not for sale, with new coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino stating: “I’m not going to involve myself in the club’s accounts, but considering the club has already rejected two offers, I would guess it will reject a third. In other words he will remain here.”
Fabregas himself has said nothing, neither to commit himself to Barcelona nor about the United offers. But United are of the understanding he wants to move to Old Trafford, hence their continued interest.
After selling Thiago Alcantara to Bayern Munich, Barcelona’s directors will be strongly criticised if they sell another midfielder, especially one they worked so hard to bring back to the club two years ago.
Barca’s stance appeases their fans, but United’s third offer will mean a considerable profit on the £25m transfer fee which they paid Arsenal for Fabregas two years ago.
Selling Fabregas for such a profit would help justify the sale, though his departure would still be unpopular with fans. Selling him would also be made easier if Fabregas asked for a move.
Barcelona played a friendly against Lechia Gdansk last night in Poland but Fabregas did not travel.
Along with the other internationals who played in the Confederations Cup, he completed two training sessions in Barcelona yesterday.
I agree that there's no reason for making things so public but if we get our guy in the end it won't matters. Basically what is relevant is that at the end of the window we've done good business. We don't look silly for trying, we look silly for publicly trying.
I really think we are wasting our time going for Cesc. I did believe that perhaps we'd heard something from his camp, and Cesc's silence on it all seems quite strange, but I don't think Barca will sell at any price, and I think deep down, Cesc prefers where he is over United.
£25 and £30million was never going to be enough, so they were timewasting bids anyway. Just bid £35million from the off. If they both say no, then fine. Move on to the next target, with plenty of time to spare.
There's probably alot more to a bid than that, but I still think we should have been a bit more hasty.
It's strange that a club record bid for us is hardly going to turn heads in comparison to other big spenders. Just shows how well we've done to keep ourselves grounded as the market gets sillier and sillier.
BBC picking up on the story from MEN. Saying we will make a club record bid.
We don't know how much of a joke FFP is at this point in time. Certain clubs obviously believe that they can get around it with their somewhat dubious sponsorships (expect Monaco to announce some stupid ones shortly). Until the first three year monitoring period is up we won't know how UEFA are going to treat these.Agreed. And FFP is a fecking joke. It gets worse every year.
It's all nice that we are trying to stay sensible and all but with the fees flying around right now it's highly debatable we will get players like Fabregas for 30-35 million pounds.
I really wonder when this all will stop.
Would be funny if our third bid got rejected and then we made a fourth one #laughingstock
Eh? Why the hell would it be funny and why would we be laughing stock? It seems to be that some people on here are actually taking delight in the possibility of a failureWould be funny if our third bid got rejected and then we made a fourth one #laughingstock
Either Barca have named their price and we're prepared to match it, or we're making another stab in the dark bid. I really hope that it's the first one.
I can't see us being that stupid by making a third without knowing if Barca (and player) have given us any encouragement and/or we have a good idea of what price they would agree to sell at.
Next couple of days will be crucial.

Erm, there is no evidence that we made any of this public! Some of you have some serious learning difficulties.
"Sky sources" released the very accurate bid information first and everybody else copied, on both occasions. They also released the fact that Ed was flying back. Now, it doesn't take too great a detective mind to work out that somebody very close to this transfer leaked this to the media. For us to leak this information to the media does not make any sense, particularly the bit about Ed.
Sadly, the anger in this thread is probably frustration after the excitement about super-Ed and his famous flight back. The most likely source of the leaks is dirty Dein as he attempts to put pressure on Barcelona, to secure his clients move to Old Trafford. I have no doubt the player wants to come, his silence speaks volumes, it is just whether the right atmosphere has been successfully created for it to happen and possibly whether Barcelona have their replacement lined up.
Moyes is generally a reserved guy, but it has obviously been decided that it was easier or at least helpful to confirm the bids. This is his and the club's total culpability. We haven't done a Madrid unsettling campaign, nor a Mourinho mind game exercise with the Rooney transfer. We have simply done what Arsenal have just done with Suarez, bid, confirmed the bid and had the bid rejected. I bet the Arsenal supporters are not ripping into their club for "going public".
What we have in here is a few arseholes that have convinced many more that it is "embarrassing" to confirm a bid, when if we were honest, we all want to know that our club is busy trying to fill a gap in the team. It seems they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
So, I say this to those who have harangued our manager and our Chief Exec, shut the feck up, grow up, get real and wait and see what the season brings.

Woke up on the wrong side of the bed mate?
"Sky sources" released the very accurate bid information first and everybody else copied, on both occasions.
Actually, when the first bid was made public, the amount of money claimed by Sky was higher than the other journalists. No, it was not a case of journalists just copying stuff. If they didn't have someone feeding them stuff, they wouldn't have written what they have (I'm talking about the respectable one's, anyway), they would have said that Sky is claiming whatever rather than take the responsibility.
Eh? We never confirmed how much we bid, so numbers are irrelevant. Sky were bang on with the offers and what days they were made. They ran the story whilst others waited for Moyes' confirmation.
The difference in reported bids was marginal and probably their interpretation of the exchange rate etc as the offer was likely to have been made in Euros and journos often just round it up or down.
I am not really sure what point your making?
Almost all our big name and big money transfers/bids have been public. It's the low and mid ranged money transfers that have been quieter.Of course we made it public.
We've never had any problem keeping transfers private when we wanted to before, why would Fabregas be so different?
