out of interest... what makes you think Fabregas would wanna come here?

Barcelona, Xavi/Inniesta partner, Good weather, less tax, boyhood club, closer to home

We're haven't done our homework imo

Then you are assuming that you know more than Woody & Moyes.

Madrid do it all the time. How many times have they reportedly signed Patrick Vieira. We just seem to be in a hissie fit because its not how we do business. It might not work this time with Fabregas but who is to say it won't with the next target. Fabregas is a bit different because its his boyhood club who are at the minute still arguable the best team in the world. Any other team he might have expressed a more open desire to leave.

Well Madrid seem to succeed more often than not when they go very public, mostly because they (sometimes) throw crazy money, or is able to get the player to press for the transfer, or both. If we're going to conduct transfers in the same way from now on, then maybe we should do a bit of the same. In this case, we seem to have failed on both counts.

Let's hope plan B works out better, and whichever "big player" they go for next will not mind being so obviously the no 2 choice.

I don't know what out transfer tactics are on this one, or who encouraged us to try and try so publicly. I assume someone told us that the door was ajar before we started trying to crash our way in. We've done similar before and like with Hargreaves for example, we may be on a push now, buy next year mission.

Comparing it to Madrid? They gossip, they crash around a bit mentioning names of players they'd like - bait in the water and then they see who'll bite. Thiago, Isco and Illarramendi were favourites in that category this summer and they got two out of three. There are still at least half a dozen names getting mentioned in Madrid transfer gossip, including midfielders like Kondogbia,

When there's a bigger fish they chase and chase again. It took them two summers to get our Ronaldo. More than that to get Kaka. With Zidane, Perez apparently used to phone the Juventus chairman every few days to ask if he was for sale, in the end they got fed up of saying no. As a tactic, it's fine unless it actually stops you from signing someone you need or unsettles a player you want to keep.

You have to wonder whether the manager change there completely derailed this one.
Or whether it was ever on to start with.

Would love to know the inside story

Barcelona - yes
Xavi/Iniesta - rivals for place in first XI
Good weather - yes
Less tax - no
Boyhood club - who he left
Closer to home - which he left

Can't compare any club to RM when it comes to transfer business

United, to my recollection, typically operates in a more stealthy manner- which has its advantages

The Cesc case wouldn't be a saga if the player/agent hadn't fueled it in some way- which underscores why I continue to find him a weasel of a gloryhunter. He was similarly absent from rebutting rumours before his return to Barcelona. He's always left in a spineless manner.

Would love him to leave

I hate to say this but they back their bait with cash, lots of cash

Couldn't agree more.

And yeah, he does come across as spineless.

Wow, well done, the quality of this thread is a perpetual downward spiral. I thought it would plateau at some point.

Wow, I actually searched back and you did, you responded to a 24 hour old slight disagreement, you really felt the need? In a Fabregas thread? Sad.

I see your 24 hours and raise it. Ninety is responding to my tongue in cheek remark from last Friday. And worse he seems to be taking it seriously.

I've been fairly optimistic about this (mainly for optimisms sake) until now but I do think it's dead in the water now.

You can only hope that Moyes and the club played it down slightly because he wanted to get things out of the media spotlight. I still believe it was never our intention for things to be so public.

Still no word from Cesc does give a small glimmer of hope also. I'm going to cling onto anything!

I wonder whether the silence over the last few days is due to a deliberate effort to stop the leaks, which have been detrimental to the process. Maybe we've said to them, we'll give you what you want, but shut the feck up about it until the deal is done & Barca have said they'll stop mouthing off if we stop waving our willy about at every opportunity.

Alright, I'm clutching at straws, but what the heck...

I am sure Mr Dein has been leaking stuff to SkySports, Moyes has merely responded to very accurate questions during press conferences.

Or Barca are sounding out a replacement before moving it forward? More clutching. :-)

Remember guys, we are going to move heaven and Earth to sign this dude. So far all we have done is move Ed from Australia to Manchester. Still plenty of legs to go in this saga yet.

Fabregas should just come out, say what he thinks of this and end the misery for us all

Dont you think regardless of whether he wanted to come or not, he'l say "i love the club, its my home, could never think of leaving blah blah blah" if Barca rejected our final bid as well.

I cant for the life of me understand how some here think fabregas's team hasnt indicated he'd come if barca are willing to sell. Our negotiation team arent a bunch of kinds on FM bidding for players just for the heck of it.

True. They are apparently only bidding for the one unavailable player

I would say Fabregas' s agent Dein has been using us all along to get Cesc a better deal at Barca. The papers reported that he just earns 100, 000 pounds a week at Barca which is an insult to a player of that level...he knows he should be on double that and Barca will probably have to cough up to keep him which they will do surely

Well he has come out and said it 3 or 4 times this transfer window... It's not his fault we chose to ignore it:lol:
