Fabregas

They managed to sign him off of you with a derisory bid.

Why do Arsenal fans care so much about how much we've bid? Do you forget he doesn't play for you any more?

1. Sell Cesc to Barca
2. Barca sell him for more
3. Take 50% of profit!

Where has this 53mil figure come from all of a sudden?

Read post #8671.

Quite simply, if the reported clause about Arsenal receiving 50% of any profits above £27m from the sale of Fabregas is to be believed, £53m is how much United would have to pay for the player in order for Barcelona to receive £40m for him.

The reports in Spain today are more promising than I thought. The fact there has been no press conference or official denial from Fabregas or Barcelona yet suggest this isn't dead in the water. The sudden resurfacing of links to Fellaini would fit in with the coy "not sure if we will make another bid" from Moyes - definitely seems like a conveniently timed link.

You've got a good grip on that straw, I'll give you that much.

Add the Bayern Munich Luiz link... We've got the media on lock.

Fair enough.

I'd really consider paying that much for him fwiw. Markets have changed and we've got to either adapt or strike amazing deals on the cheap. Doing neither to add to our CM would be bad.

I see what you did there.

Excuse me, I think the word you're searching for is "Space Ranger".

I'm going to design a ghetto version of the toy story characters and then have Olly animate them torturing all of the old ones slowly. All of my gangster toy story remakes will only use quotes from The Wire and OZ.

If we want him that badly then just pay the fecking money...its that simple for me. Otherwise don't parp on about bids in public when they are nowhere near what is going to be required. A player of Fabregas' calibre, one who is intrinsically linked to Barcelona, will require a massive bid. Barcelona won't sell him without profit ffs. United appear to want to dictate terms in what is by far and away a sellers market. There are a lot of clubs now who can buy big, but not a lot of world class players. PSG and Monaco have distorted the market further but if United want great players they need to adjust appropriately.

I don't see much evidence to suggest they are. If we give up after 2 bids then its all a bit pathetic really. At least make Barca think twice.

I was listening to Talksport earlier and they were talking about the Cesc affair, apparently Barca are willing to do deal but at a price of around £40m.

Ha, as if its in Fabregas' interests to say he's been exploring a move..

Besides if he admits that he's been talking to us, then I'm pretty sure that Barcelona have valid grounds to file a complaint regarding tapping up.

I do agree. It'd be ridiculous if we don't bid enough to actually get an official conversation with the player.

We can "pay £60m plus for a player"? Well, here is a 26 year old world class midfielder. Time to put the money where our mouth is.

If that was true, I'm certain we'd buy him tomorrow.

Or to keep things simple you could have just said; "The word I am searching for I can't say, because there are pre-school toys present".

£40m, FFS where do we sign, if there is ANY truth in this what so ever, we should snap their hands off

The problem is we've only offered £30m plus add ons, and according to the so called expert on Talksport we are "million miles" away from the £40m price.

Do people actually think if we went in with a straight £40m offer it would be accepted? Then they be expecting £50-60m if they know our opening offer is that high.

I don't have a problem with how we've been bidding, do you not think this is how we negotiate with other players? The only difference is this time is that the bids have been made public so now all the negotiation experts have come out in full force on this one.

No, they just think that the initial reported offer of £26m was so low as to be pointless. Not that it matters - so what if we made a pointless bid? Nobody was killed. The only relevant bid is the final one.

I reckon we've been slightly naive in the handling of Cesc affair, everyone know's we are quite desperate and that we don't have many other options so i reckon Barca are gonna fleece us big time for him

Exactly, the final bid is what matters. The first bid is obviously to test the waters, we must have had encouragement to go back with the second bid rather than just told to feck off.

If we bid again, then it's likely going to be a bid that both us and Barca are happy with (I hope). You don't show your whole hand at the first bid.

I wonder if there is anyone who has read every post in this thread, apart from me?

Hands up if you have. I'm sure there are one or two.
