Fabregas

Fabregas would improve us more than any other player we could sign now which definitely raises his value but I don't want us to pay £60m for a single player. We'd basically double our current transfer record which stands at slightly more than £30m, we need to be realistic in our moves. For £60m we could sign two midfielders and a winger, there are other available players out there who'd strengthen us.

I hope that United have a plan B and C. There are some good CM around who can improve us.

If Fabregas is our only signing and no one leaves, i have no issue with us paying 60m.

£60m no way that's far to much 30-35m max or let's move on. That's potentially a Modric and Fellaini surely that's better than just a fabregas?

I hope we do. We should be looking around France and Germany IMO, plenty of good midfielders have emerged there lately and some of them should be worth a look. They're usually not very expensive either. In reality I think we'll end up with a stop gap signing or no one at all, our ability to identify midfielders is really questionable.

I could easily see us spending up to 100m if we need to. Spending 60 on Cesc wouldn't harm us the slightest.

That's going to put a dent in our finances though, especially as we have no players to offload (except for possibly Rooney and Nani who won't fetch more than £40m together) and we spent a lot in the past 3 years. I'd rather we kept it tight and spent less, especially as there don't seem to be that many bargains on the market. When the right opportunity comes along we'll spend no doubt but paying over the odds to land players just because we can is no way to go.

We're a 10 point winning league side. We don't need many signings or 'cheap' options.

I can't say i care about United's finances we're a rich club.

In my opinion that’s the wisest strategy. The Fabregas deal is a near impossible challenge even for the likes of PSG and Shitty who can rely on near endless resources, let alone us.

Buying promising talent who are one step away from becoming stars is risky. For example Juventus lost big money when they spent their dosh on the ,then highly rated, Melo and Diego. However, the same strategy got them Pogba and Vidal on relatively low fees.

We exploited the fact that Shitty and Chelsea were in a near chaotic situation last season. Mancini couldn't handle the pressure of defending a league title and had issues with Tevez. Chelsea were in a transition period and was poorly lead.

I am not saying that we're shit. However quality wise we're not 10 points away from Chelsea/Shitty.

I don't mind us doing that eithe e although we really should be going for more proven players. But we haven't even done that (sign promising midfielders) for the last 6 years

Honestly spending 50m on Fabregas is a risk. Mind I do rate the player and he's EPL proven but feck me that's a hell of price tag to carry.

There's a big difference between going for a promising midfielder (Ex Powell) and going for a player who did very well with a smaller side (ex pre Juventus Vidal)

How did "Barca may accept a bid in the region of 40 million euros" become £60 million? I've not read the last couple of pages.

£32 million did the trick on my FIFA save btw.

Seriously, what is the point of cultivating all those numerous sponsors, monetising 'emerging markets' & doing lucrative tours if we still aren't willing to spend whatever it takes to secure that 'one special midfielder' the club has been seeking for years? This is not a kneejerk point, but a serious one.

Because Moneyoldo took over the last page and decided that finances were no issue to a club like us. We can spend crazy apparently just because we're united and we can.

If Fabregas in deed is available for 40 million euros the club should just throw the money at Barca. Safest bet there is for us in terms of CM.

Fabregas is not worth £60 million - but at the same time, it would get us (possibly) the best midfielder in England for the next 5-6 seasons. And I would put it like this - it's better to spend £60 mill on Fabregas than to spend nothing on noone.

But it's not a case of money - if Fabregas really wants to leave (which I doubt), we can probably sign him for £40 million. If he doesn't want to leave - we won't get him anyway

I would be interested to know where to encouragement came from, for United to pursue Fabregas so openly. I do hope it's not another case of an agent trying to get a better deal/conditions for his man (which I think is the case here, but struggle to see United falling for it).
I still can't see CF signing for us but would be delighted if he did. Spend whatever to get him because he is a special player and we need some quality in the midfield. Regardless of how many points we won the league by last season, this next season will be totally different. City and Chelsea have spent well....City really well on paper! To think our current squad will do as good this next season is very unlikely - we need to strengthen.
I also hope the Fellaini speculation is true.

So we're way ahead at home, isn't it about time we set our sights on Europe?

Does Fabregas not do that? I'm not saying we are even 10 points better than those around us. But our starting 11 with Fab in would be the best in the league and we still have the best squad so far. Personally i think we need 3 players, 2 midfielders and a winger.

Actually, there have hardly been any quotes from the agent. So I don't really see how that would be the case.

But it is still baffling if the player isn't for sale/not willing to move, and we are still making bids for him, chasing a lost cause.

There's a very good possibility that there was no encouragement from anyone as well as his agent not being the one sounding the horns. Rather, it could very well be Moyes who thought he'd give it a go on no grounds other than testing Barca's and the player's resolve.

That's my point.

In order to compete in Europe, Fabregas may be the missing piece.

It doesn't matter what Cesc is worth, 27m are not going to get you Guendogan. Try like 40-50m next season.

With one year left on his contract? How much did they sell Sahin and Kagawa for? You must be on the drink.

I still expect City and Chelsea to be closer next year.

Without Fergie too, I very much doubt the lead will be 10 points.

City self imploded last year lets be fair, it won't be this easy again.
