Fabregas

We'd be all over this like a rash if he was leaving.

You know, that's the one thing...

It is, actually. It's the missing piece in my muppet puzzle. I don't see Wenger sitting calmly, letting this one pass without any fuss.

Well, we shall see. Tomorrow Barca declare that they are willing to sell - and then all hell breaks loose.

Then again it could be that young Cesc is about to do something which will make papa Arsene disown him permanently. If I were Fabregas and had been in talks with United for weeks, I'd be a bit nervous about calling up Wenger to let him know the latest developments.

feckin' speculations. Should stop it. But it's an intriguing little affair, I must admit.

How much do you think he's actually worth? I dont see anything derisory about a 25mil 1st bid. If Barca are willing to sell, 40mil should do it. Starting 10mil below that is standard practice. If your 1st bid is 40mil, be prepared to get fleeced as the club would always reject the 1st bid.

I wouldn't wince at £40m. He's perfect for us.

Then why's a 25mil derisory? Would you rather we start bidding at 40mil?

I accepted that it was an opening bid, a negotiation ploy. What I don't understand is if we subsequently give up at £30m plus add ons. Seems a bit stingy to me, tbh.

I think the confusion arises because Fabregas has a market value of about £50/60M but Arsenal had to sell him for about £30M since it was a closed market.

30mil plus add ons from a club like ours that wins things is pretty decent. Nevertheless, an increase of 5mil cash itself is 20% hike. It isnt stingy at all. This is big money, you haggle all you can.

Yep, that's one of the biggest reasons why people are struggling to understand what's happening. Barca fleeced Arsenal. They arent willing to let the same happen to them.

With the state of our midfield, and the quality of Fabregas, I can't believe some people baulk at the idea of paying £40m. Sadly, I think this is all elementary - just want to be put out of my misery!

Is absolutely correct but his previous price probably does go someway to dictating his price if United have indeed caught wind that Barca would actually like to sell to balance the books.

The good news is that Moyes has indicated in his interview that it isn't Fabregas or no one

We'll move onto our next target soon if we haven't already

Nothing has changed, it is all down to Fabregas, If our interest is fueled by encouragement from him behind the scenes then we will find out soon enough. The level of the bids so far is insignificant as they are really only statements of intent to buy. If Fabregas comes out and says he wants to go then it will probably happen as Barca apparently need cash for a new center half. They will extract a good price from us as we really need him and can sell it to the fans as they don't want to keep a player who doesn't want to be at the club.

Or more likely Fabregas will come out and say he is flattered by the interest of a great club like Utd but he wants to stay and fight for his place bla bla bla and Barca will buy some defender on the cheap and make do till next transfer window.

Bingo

Selling Cesc isn't really that useful for Barcelona. We get a massive sell-on fee even if he doesn't come to us, so they're not even going to get the £40m it would take.

If Cesc agreed to come back to Arsenal, it'd be £18m for us because they still owe us most of the Song money.

fabregas will never come out and say he wants to go. if you're waiting for something like that, dont hold your breath.

It's obviously Dirty Darren Dein, stirring the shit for a lucrative move or something else. His gameplan could be:

a) get Barca to endorse him as a key player
b) get a move to another top European club
c) come back to daddy
d) make some dosh
e) be a cnut

I wouldn't often agree with you, normally out of principle. :D But if Suarez is worth £50m, then Fabregas certainly is.

You should buy him yourselves, for about £150m, then use the massive sell on fee you'd get to invest in other positions.

Since you can't possibly know this 100% I suggest you do hold your breath until you pass out and when you wake up read the second half of my post.

You think we've made 2 bids to Barca without ascertaining from fabregas whether he'd come first?

He's a cule, spent his childhood at the club and is finally there after going through a lot to force the transfer. He has too strong a bond there. Unless a deal's done, he wont open his mouth to say he wants to leave. It just wont happen as he wouldnt risk the repercussion. The silence from him and his agent so far tells everything though. They are waiting to see what happens. If he is satisfied with what the new coach says in terms of his importance to the squad, he might just come and say he loves the club blah blah blah and could never even think of leaving. But that'd mean jackshit.

That would have been amusing apart from the fact that we have a buy-back at 35M euros.

Yeah, it'll probably be one of those annoying "Of course, I never had any intention of leaving *hides passport*" things.

No, it shows that he's good with getting more importance in that new Barca setup.

That's what I said. If he's happy with what the new manager tells us, an eventual "I love the club, never even considered leaving" line is inevitable. Wont mean anything though. Expect the caf to implode nonetheless.

You fecking bastard, you've had great fun for you £10 which goes to the caf anyway (and you could have laid it on betfair for a profit either way). I'm not betting on the caf again (unless Glaston wants £1000 on Spurs getting T4)

You had better get on to Moyes and let him know, I am sure he hasn't had any clauses brought to his attention before he bid. That will teach him.

:wenger:

Well Fabregas turns up for work tomorrow. I guess at the very least, the bids have 'unsettled' him and he will have thought alot about the opportunity afforded to him by Moyes. Shit got real. Will be interesting to see what happens.
