This is from Facebook ( OK it is shit )

According to ESPN writer : United are chasing Fabregas since mid-May. All of the discussions held between Barca and United have been positive. This is the reason why United are pushing for Fabregas deal.

Makes sense to me. Seriously. I think he's been on the radar relatively long. And we've had plenty of "encouragement" along the way. Doesn't mean we'll sign him, though. It's very hard to tell who carries the most weight here. It's also very hard to say how much Fabregas wants this - to what extent does he fancy his chances at his boyhood club, to what extent is he pragmatic about his situation, how important is money, playing time, assurances from the coach, and so forth? And now there's a new manager as part of the equation too.

If all the talks had been positive since mid-May then surely there would be an agreement by now?! United can't be stingy over a player of that quality and who they very much need.

Because we're not looking to sign a squad player. Neither Thiago or Fabregas are going to be protecting the back four; nor was Sneijder when we were in for him. This obsession with a typical holding midfielder isn't something shared by most mangers these days. We're looking to sign a quality creative midfielder who can play alongside Carrick.

You really want us to sign Dembele (that was the suggestion to which I made my comment)? If you think "better than Anderson" should be our only criteria then we would have signed loads of midfielders by now. Thankfully, we're not setting the bar so low.
I didnt mention Anderson. I was referring to the "we aren't short on numbers" comment. Numbers are pointless if half of them are never fit, aren't midfielders or are close to 40. We ARE short on numbers. Obsession with a typical holding midfielder? Nah, just am acknowledgment that midfielders are supposed to contribute in defence ESPECIALLY if you're fielding a two man midfield as opposed to a three man one. And we have one midfielder who is good at that. One. If he gets injured we're fecked and can kiss the title goodbye. Now lets take a look at the best clubs as of last season. Bayern had gustavo, sweinstiger and Martinez who are all capable of playing the holding role. Barcelona have Song, Busquets and Mascherano. Madrid had alonso, khedira and Essen. We have.... ...Michael Carrick.

Yes I agree that we need a technical midfielder who can play alongside Carrick. But I think we need an alternative to Carrick too, someone who can get stuck in. Carrick is a good footballer but he doesn't impose himself physically. We need a second midfielder who can defend who can do that well.

Yup. Regardless of whether we get a fabregas or a thiago, we need cover for Carrick as well. Someone who's defensively strong enough to play with Carrick in a middle 2 in tough league games and in europe.

Word on the pitch seem to have not expected Moyes to say what he did in the news conference:

"According to our Source in Spain who working in the media told us, Barcelona have received an offer of £38m for Fabregas from Manchester United. This comes after David Moyes was given the green light to make the bid in a press conference that took place around 48 hours ago. We can confirm the offer was made after a message from Cesc Fabregas officials telling Old Trafford to carrying on with the bidding.

So, was Moyes given the green light at the press conference or did he make the bid at the press conference?

And also, fabregas has his own officials? Big man...

We have Jones if needed.

And I think it has to be someone physically imposing. I know it will be hard to get someone of martinez's quality but at least someone in that mould who can read the game well and harass opposition players into giving the ball away. It's a facet of the game that can really give us an edge in the bigger games.

It's actually interesting that we tend to go into games with someone not too capable at defending next to Carrick and Rooney infront who is more of a forward which is risky given other teams either crowd the midfield or play two midfielders who can defend well (see madrid and bayern).

I thought the article was talking about the positivity coming from the Fabregas camp not Barca's and if that's the case then I don't doubt it's true. There is no way we would be so aggressive in our public stance if we didn't believe we could get him, and that belief has come from a source close to Fabregas surely?

I'm far more skeptical about the reason for the positivity coming from Fabregas agent etc rather than the reporting of the positivity itself. I could quite easily see the Fabregas camp using us as leverage for a new contract at Barca or even leverage on assurances for the up coming year about playing time (similar to Thiago).

I think we have been told something, but I genuinely think we have probably being used by one camp or the other. There is always a danger of that with high profile players but if you're given assurances can you really afford to not pursue a brilliant player through a 'guess' at being used?

Gustavo at Bayern? Not physically imposing my any means but fits the rest of your post. He'd definitely be available too.

I'd love him but there's no indication whatsoever that we're in for him.

In fact, we haven't been seriously linked with anyone but Fábregas.

I doubt the only player we're after is fabregas though he certainly seems to be our 1st target. The media wont know everything. Gustavo has already been linked to a club, dont remember the name.

AS have reported that Cesc will be made to make a statement by Barca to clear the situation up one way or the other. If true, he's hardly going to come out and alienate himself is he...?

Recently retired Paul Scholes has admitted that it would be a dream if the Premier League champions were able to get Cesc Fabregas away from the Catalan giants.
7/27 20:13Update, according to certain media outlets Barcelona have accepted this deal which we reported, Fabregas has also agreed to join Manchester United following a secret meeting between the Barcelona midfielder’s agent Darren Dein and Old Trafford executive chief executive Ed Woodward. "

This all supposedly happened yesterday but Moyes said today that he's unsure of making a third bid? It's rubbish.

Maybe Barca started those discussions quite happily hoping they would keep us away from Thiago and once he is gone they will have none of it?

If, for argument's sake, the post were true, that's exactly what Moyes would say. Short of actually confirming the transfer, he could only give a non-committal answer which would technically be true, given that no further bid would consequently be needed.

That's not haggling. It's taking the piss considering they bought him for £25 million.

I have to admit I was surprised a bid that low was made publicly, but I'd expect them to start the conversation at that behind the scenes.

Have you never haggled?

Protracted negotiations have cost us dear many times in the past. For a vital player like Fabregas we should try to wrap up the deal as quickly as possible and not worry whether we might be paying a few million too much. £26m was too low and bound to be rejected - it served no useful purpose, except to confirm we were as cheapskate under new management as we had been under the old.

We have done not to bad before IMO

Think we should see some new developments tomorrow, particularly from the Fabregas side. This is taking too long and i'm sure the player himself wants his future sorted as soon as possiblt as well

So far his future looks completely sorted: he doesn't want to leave, Barcelona don't want to sell - he might not even give a shit that we keep bidding for him.
