Fabregas wants to go to Barcelona

Didn't Arshavin say recently he fancied Barca too?

If Cesc goes I can't see Arshavin hanging around in that mediocre team.

Who knows Barca could get Arshavin too for their left side then play Inestia, Xavi and Fabregas all in midfield. Judging by how well those three can keep possession id say their possession stats would rise from 70% to 80%, the other team wouldnt even get a look in!

This would be a huge blow to Asnl if it did happen, i see people are comparing this to us losing Ronaldo but i reckon this is similar to Alonso leaving Liverpool - he was the player that everything went through and Fabregas is the player that Asnl are built around. When he was missing for the last 6 or so games you saw how lackluster and poor they looked

Yes, but we came 2nd and only by 1 point without Ronaldo, Arsenal finished 3rd (and a way off) with Fabregas - Ronaldo wasn't as important because the side he was in was stronger. Arsenal without Fabregas are far more weakened. Also it sends a signal of serious lack of ambition - you've got players like Arshavin saying Arsenal need to show they're serious and sign 2 or 3 top class players, instead they risk losing their captain and talisman.

I hear you mate but it's not like Arsenal want to sell, do they? Even if they tried, they won't be able to hold onto Cesc. Like I said before, Wenger was going to sign a bit this summer, more than usual as it is. He might be able to convince
Cesc to stay but I don't see them falling apart.

If we put in a 50m bid, do you think they'd listen. A goal scoring midfield maestro seems to be what we are lacking (considering Scholes is semi-retired). We have ample young forwards to step up, and we've two great wingers in Nani and Valencia, while our back line is very capable. Blow it on Fabregas, and be done with it.

And Fabregas would choose us ahead of his native Barcelona?

Really?

No chance.

Not unless Fabregas kicked up an almighty fuss. Which he won't. Not to move to Manchester anyway.

Which is a shame really. He's one of only two or three players in the whole of Europe that I reckon could replace Scholes adequately.

iniesta isn't catalan even though he came through barca youth, maybe we can tempt barca if they get fabregas to give up iniesta for big money.

I do feel we can take advantage of this saga. Either shell out two years of transfer kitty on one player or bring in the player he's going to replace at Barca. Fabregas has it all; age, ability, experience, PL proven, leadership etc. Admittedly he's a bit of a twat, but he'd be our twat
If Barca are considering 40m and we outbid them by 10-15m, don't you think Arsenal would let him talk to us? I don't like to see United buy established superstars, but this guy wanting to leave his club is an opportunity we'll regret not taking advantage of.

arsenal would sell cheaper to a team outside the prem. It's worth it to them not to strengthen a direct rival and that's easily worth a 10-15 million quid difference, when talking about a player with the quality of fabregas.

no, if we were ever to devise a strategy to capitalize on this move, it would be to deal directly with barca for a player (iniesta), who might be most affected by this transfer.

....or How To Get Your Big Name Signing.

Consolation Goal takes a look at the eerie similarities between innocent “more than a club” Barcelona and Real “we step on puppies for fun” Madrid.

cristiano-ronaldo-fabregas-eddie-keogh-1g.jpg

Step 1.

Get said transfer to announce his desire to remain at his current club.

Cristiano Ronaldo: “I’m no longer thinking of Madrid. That dream is dead. I am very happy [at Manchester United]. I want to stay here and I am very focused on winning the Champions League.”

Cesc Fabregas: “We don’t need to talk about my future. I don’t understand all the rumours about me. I’ve always said that I’m happy at Arsenal.”

Step 2.

Undo Step 1 and make the player issue a come-and-get-me plea, making him look like a dishonest twat to his former fans.

Cristiano Ronaldo: “Yes, I would like to play for Real Madrid. That’s the truth, depending on what they are willing to spend on me and what Manchester United ask.”
Cesc Fabregas: “I think I would like to go to Barcelona, whether or not they want me is another thing.”

Step 3.

Get an international and prospective team mate to urge your transfer target to come join him.

Pepe: “For now, [Ronaldo] has to be respectful to Manchester United, like I am to Madrid, but I believe that sooner or later he will come. I think he wants to come here, and he has shown that.”
Xavi: “It is criminal for a player of Cesc’s quality not to be winning the biggest prizes in football. He really has no choice but to leave. He is making the right decision.”

Step 4.

Repeat Step 3.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy: “One day Ronaldo will join us. This could happen next summer, or the one after.”
Gerard Pique: “I am convinced that Cesc will come here. I am enjoying the best years of my life and my career here and I think that’s why Cesc wants to come. He would fit in well. I found it impossible to resist a return to Barcelona.”

Step 5.

Get one of your transfer target’s parents to push the deal through. Saying it is their dying wish is optional.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Mother: “Of all the foreign clubs, Real Madrid is the best. Before I die I would like him to play for Real Madrid. I would really like that and then I could die, it wouldn’t matter.”
Cesc Fabregas’ Father: “Cesc is now concentrated on the national team, but he wants the closure ofthe signing soon. I’m not sure how this will end, but I think they must respect the decision and will of the player.”

Step 6.

Finally, and most importantly, remind everybody of how nice and respectful you have been.

Ramon Calderon (Real Madrid President): “We have not had any discussions with Ronaldo because United said they don’t want to sell and we don’t want to be disrespectful to them. We will only do what United want to do with the player.”
Txiki Begiristain (Barcelona Sporting Director): “The player has shown his will to come to Barca, but we will not do anything until Arsenal want to negotiate. We have the will of the player to come to Barcelona, but what we won’t do is start to negotiate without Arsenal until an agreement is reached. Cesc has a contract with his club and we will be very respectful.”

Coming Soon: Step 7 – Unveiling the player.

They should have kept the parallel going. Step 6a) Stays for another season.

Except (to be fair) Ronaldo wasn't taken from Madrid when he was 16 for a pittance using a legal loophole.

Yeah, there's no point in being hypocritical - we'd do exactly the same. Mind you on this one Barca do have to ante up £60M or else it's not going to happen.

i dont think he wants to come. to be honest, he' be mad to come to us. there is no emotional or practical link between us at all.

spanish clubs wouldn't act this way if players adamantly didn't want to go.

obviously the likes of fabregas and ronaldo are attracted to la liga and their clubs hence why it is an issue.

Good point.

But they could do it in a more respectful way. Coming out and talking about the player almost every few days just unsettles both the player and the club involved. Then furthermore, you get players from these spanish clubs urging the target to join them(I don't believe they do it out of their own free choice, I have a feeling the club is asking them to do it).

Fabregas seems to be leaving open the option of staying. He's leaving it all up to Wenger!

Arsenal future is out of my hands, insists captain Cesc Fabregas | Football | guardian.co.uk

Fabregas said: "I will say only one thing – I have got massive respect for Arsene Wenger, Arsenal football club and the Arsenal fans. Even in my own house I have not felt as loved as I have at Arsenal. I had a long conversation with Arsene and it was the greatest [longest] conversation I have had with anyone in my life.

"I respect him, so, so much and I don't want to say anything more. Wenger said to leave it in his hands and he will deal with whatever happens in the future. It is now all about Arsenal – it is not in my hands.

"Now I just wait: it is up to Arsenal. Right now all I am thinking about is the World Cup: everything else is the future and I am not going to say anything else."

I don't think so.
Well he is not known to resist good money. Besides, if he was serious, he could rebuild the side into a truly competitive unit, the way Inter did when they sold Zlatan. It's some times truly pointless kepeing player who wants to be else where. Wenger I believe will only not let him go if he his offered derisory sums like 30m.

I don't think so.

Well " let him go" may sound a tad too easy but he'll have to sell him if he wants to return to Barca..albeit for a good fee.

The problem is that Barca simply have to wait. They'll have enough agents at the WC to keep telling him to come...not that he needs much convincing by the sounds of it

Surely you hope Fabregas leaves, Storey, considering what a big deal you made of Ronaldo underperforming in his last season at United because he had already mentally left for Spain.

But Ronaldo did play a huge part in us winning the league that season. There really was not a huge dropoff in his performance.

What there was though was a hell of a lot of negative press attention, with every grimace during a game interpreted as him not giving it his all anymore.

It'd be the same with Fabregas. He might play at exactly the same level as last season, but the media will paint it otherwise.

Fabregas isn't a preening queen though. If he stays he'll give his all. And even a pouting Ronaldo did enough to make the difference at the sharp end.

How long is left on Fabregas' contract?

He's contracted until summer 2015 and Barca don't seem to want to pay the market price.
