Fabregas wants to go to Barcelona

I can see them playing Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas as midfield three against all the bottom half side. Why bother about 'defending' when you have about 90% of the ball? I have to admit a line-up like

Fabregas - Xavi - Iniesta
Messi - Villa - Pedro

would be wanktastic. And I fecking hate the on-going Barca ********.

Barcelona are playing real life football manager.

they would get murdered by chelsea or other big team at set pieces.

Set pieces... Barca wouldn't give a shit, they'd more likely score past anyone from just open play.

if they wanted to go homegrown...

with puyol and pique at the back and valdes in goal

oh chuck busquetts in there as well...

credit where its due... they have a good youth team

Cannot work, a squad of midgets

At 6'3, Busquets is hardly a midget. And besides, Barca showed in the run in this year, after dropping Zlatan, that their style of play means that height is not a massive issue. And Villa is decent in the air anyway.

They will have an embarrassment of attacking riches if they get Villa and Fabregas, which it is looking increasingly likely that they will. We can talk about what their first 11 will be, but with the players they will have at their disposal, any lineup wont look particularly weak.

I guess they'll be automatic favourites for next seasons champions league

1 step forwards and 5 steps back for Arsenal...again.

I was starting to get a bit concerned with their squad but selling your best player really doesn't help things.

Completely agree, it's like an ongoing cycle that happens every single year. Must be so frustrating to be an Arsenal fan.

But hang on, let's not get ahead of ourselves, it's not even happened yet.

True but it seems it is going too.

Atleast when we sold Ronaldo it was on the back of 3 Premiership titles, a CL win and another final appearance, a Carling Cup and a World Club Cup...we got our moneys worth. If Fabregas leaves Arsenal he will do so without really ever achieving anything with his club.

i dunno if they buy lloris, gocurff, toure and a new centreback with the money they would probably be a lot stronger...

it is arsenal though they probably wont buy anyone

Yeah I would REALLY like to see Arsenal negotiate with Lyon

John Cross at The Mirror seems convinced that Cesc will move, says the story is well sourced and will probably be messy - but Cesc will move:

Crazy day. Cesc begins exit route from #Arsenal, phone glued to my ear, in Munich en route to Graz. Arsenal transfer news: Cesc Fabregas tells Arsenal Wenger he wants to quit the Emirates for Barcelona - MirrorFootball.co.uk
Sorry, but he's going and it may get messy. Shame to end like this for #Arsenal. The story is well sourced, believe me
#Arsenal boss Wenger coonvinced me few weeks ago that he thought Cesc would stay. What's changed? Cont...#Arsenal's lack of transfer ambition, end of season collapse and the fact that Barca want him will have swayed Cesc IMO

By all accounts they've got money this summer - for the first time in ages - whether or not Fabregas leaves.

Which is why the timing must really suck for gooners.

To be fair, he's from their youth system. Imagine paying £40m for a player who came out of your youth.

Yep, they don't need the money - they need some top class players who can settle and produce quickly. Losing their best player and captain is going to seriously set them back, new signings or not.

Toure would be a good fit for Arsenal (and almost everyone else in England), but I wonder if Wenger would prefer to nurture Song in that role.

I'd expect him to go for between £40-50m, or £30m plus a player (Toure most likely)

Don't think Arsene Wenger wants Toure... he has Song as a great defensive midfielder, and Diaby is not that bad neither. That position is the last thing Arsenal needs. If they are to get Fabregas they will have to pay... And I think it is more likeley they have to go £50-60m, because Fabregas will not be cheap. If they loose Fabregas, they need to get a new attacking midfielder or playmaker rather than a work horse like Yaya.

He's from their youth system - so what? Did they have have faith in him? Did they nurture him into the player he is today? If there's one person Cesc has to thank it's Wenger. He made him the player he is today.

Wenger should make those pricks pay. If they can pay that much for Ibra, they should be easily able to pay a similar amount of money for Cesc.

If Wenger can get 35 million + Toure it's not the worst deal in the world. Yes, Cesc is a terrific player, but if it's clear he wants to go then there's not much you can do about it. Truth is, off all the positions, the midfield is probably where they have the most cover with Nasri, Denilson, Diaby, Ramsey, etc.

We've always known he's been on loan to us from Barca and that this day would come. He's been a great player for us and has gone about this as best as could be expected. We'll get a shitload of cash for him and that's the best we can hope for. It's not the end of the world.

Worse news then Fabregas possibly asking for a transfer is a report a few days ago where David Seamen gave Fabianski the vote of confidence and suggested Wenger does not need to buy a keeper. Apparently they have top shot stoppers already playing at Arsenal and the fans just need to have some faith.

So yeah...not only is your best player likely headed out the door, but your keepers look set to stay. Happy days if you're a Gunner. :)

They wouldn't need to play Toure as a DM, he'd probably be box to box as an upgrade on Diaby. With either Ramsey or Nasri stepping up as a playmaker. Arshavin isn't a bad player either.

They could probably use the money on centre backs/keeper and a back up for RVP, even though it seems they're buying that Morrocon striker.

Will be a massive blow for Arsenal but not the end of the world. Everyone thought we were fecked when we lost Ronaldo and Tevez. With two or three key signings (Chamakh is a good start), they will be fine. I expect the likes of Arshavin and Nasri to use this opportunity to step up a bit like Rooney did for us.

To be fair mate, losing Fabregas for Arsenal would be considerably more painful than it was for us to lose Ronaldo, whilst not as elite (in my view) as Ronaldo, he was more of an influence for them than Ronny was for us.
Whilst neither are replaceable, we found it easier going without Ronaldo than Arsenal will find it without Fabregas.
I honestly think he has kep them in the Top Four the last two or three seasons.

I disagree. Both players were as important as the other for their respective teams. You seem to forget that it is the opinion of most on here that we'd have won number 19 this season if Ronnie was still around. Also, Ronaldo won a lot of games for us with a 1-0 when we looked flat and out of it, similar to what Fabregas did. Yes we coped well but it could've easily gone horribly wrong was it not for Rooney to step up. That is why I said in my previous post that as long as some of Arsenal's other 'senior' players (for me esp Arshavin) then they will be there in the top 4 come next season. No worse than what they've achieved before. Let's not forget that it seems that Wenger is going to make a few signings whether Fabregas leaves or not. Arsenal will not implode.

Yes, but we came 2nd and only by 1 point without Ronaldo, Arsenal finished 3rd (and a way off) with Fabregas - Ronaldo wasn't as important because the side he was in was stronger. Arsenal without Fabregas are far more weakened. Also it sends a signal of serious lack of ambition - you've got players like Arshavin saying Arsenal need to show they're serious and sign 2 or 3 top class players, instead they risk losing their captain and talisman.

Didn't Arshavin say recently he fancied Barca too?

If Cesc goes I can't see Arshavin hanging around in that mediocre team.
