Fabregas to Barcelona!

Why does every player being shown off to the media/fans control the ball like that? How often do you see a player do it during a game?

What do you expect a football player who is being unveiled as a new signing expect to do?

He can't be running around the ground with the ball like an idiot when he is required to be in front of the sponsors and all.

Yup it's strange, as though they need to convince the fans that he's got some skills. You don't see this in the NBA for example, they'll just be wearing a nice tailored suit and the team's cap.

Juggle it normally? Stand there posing? I don't know, anything but that idiotic, 'stylish' control that they seem to think looks good.

Not juggle the ball like a schoolkid trying to impress the first bird in his class that got tits?

Well I'm sure the fans awaiting his arrival in the stadium enjoy seeing a few tricks and flicks. But really, who cares?

Evra does it at least once every game really

£25mil

Arsenal fans must be fecking furious. They've been ripped off good and proper here.

Well I hope he enjoys watching Iniesta, Xavi, Messi and co playing tikki takka from the bench, for at least 2 years.

It isn't realistically that though. It's absolute minimum £29m over 5 years, and the chances of Barcelona not winning another CL or La Liga in that time are minimal. Thus we'll probably get the full £34m, which is still underpriced.

Its a shocking fee, whatever way you put it. 29million up front is ridiculously low.

Arsenal should have stood their ground and told Cesc, sorry but unless they get market value for him he can't go.

If they miss out on Europe next season, or go out early this year 29million could be wiped out very quickly.

Euros, no? Which is £25.5m.

Spurs have stopped the rot with Modric, whereas Arsenal have become a selling, feeder club.

It's a difficult situation, because if we'd stood firm, we'd have faced another season of being led by a man who doesn't actually want to be at the club. That and the speculation which did nothing for both clubs would have continued for yet another year. We were right to finally get rid - it's underpriced massively, but we still made a £33.5m profit on him. We nabbed him on the cheap, Barca have done the same. I'm just happpy it's over.

You may be right. According to various sources, Barcelona's official announcement is the lowest possible sum they could pay in order to appease their fans, who consider it ridiculous they have to pay that kind of fee for him in the first place. Strange one.

It's a joke mate, I'd be livid if I were a gooner.

So where is he gonna play? They're not gonna shift Busquets...

Iniesta back out wide, shifting Villa on the right and getting rid of Pedro.

Either way, they got plenty of competent depth in mdfield now...

It's not an opinion that is shared by a lot of Gooners, but I don't really agree with how we snare their players in the first place. Not only do I not agree with the policy because inevitably they just want to return home once they make it, but also because we're essentially nicking them without having to pay a transfer fee.

Whilst it's deplorable the manner in which Barcelona tapped him up, and all the other shenanigans that went with it, at the end of the day, there's something wrong with how players can be stolen from academies for peanuts. The fee we're getting for him isn't close to market value, but an element of the reduced price this time around is probably down to how he was acquired originally.

That's a good point.

I can understand the relief of it being over but I still think they should have stood firm, if it didn't materialise due to Barca not stumping up the money, sorry Cesc but you've signed and 8 year contract, half of its yet to run... you're just going to have to be professional. There's no way he could have realistically expected to leave for 25million up front with only 5 to follow.

I dont think he's underperformed due to distraction over the past three years.

If I was an Arsenal fan I'd be going nuts.

Fair enough, I see your stance on it(and it's one shared by the majority of Gooners from what I see/read.) As I said in an earlier post though, there are multiple reasons behind the low price, and Wenger seemed keen to ship him out before this saga became damaging to the side. I'd happily see Arsenal as a poorer side as long as all the players there absolutely loved being there and appreciated playing for the team. Cesc was highly professional, and was fantastic for us, but it was the right time.

It's a fair point, and I agree with the principle. United have done the same thing as have most other clubs and I don't think it's right but it doesn't make it any less of a piss take how cheap they've got him, especially considering his lengthy remaining contract. His basic market value is considerably higher than £25-30m at any given time, but with his contract position and the current hyper levels of inflation you should have been looking at a much much higher fee.

severly under-priced to think someone like andy carroll can cost more than fabregas...

As already mentioned, if they don't qualify for the CL this season the fee they received will be wiped out by the losses of not being in the competition...quite a scary thought for the gooners I imagine.
