What treatment? Not being picked often which happens to every footballer at some point in their career? It's nothing to do with Moyes, it's on Fabio. It was a stupid challenge to make and totally unnecessary after he made a poor pass.

What treatment? He's barely played this year for what looks like no reason at all. He was even on the bench for a game as the only cover for left back and still didn't get on the pitch when our left back got injured, with Moyes instead preferring to play a winger a right back and a right back at left back. Footballers do stupid things all the time, it's just that it's easy to understand why Fabio might have done what he did today. It was a tackle that came about through frustration and desperation. Some of this shit in this thread is unreal. The guy hasn't been given a game for ages and suddenly one moment of madness undoes all the good things he's done in the past.

I'd generally think if you wanted to impress the manager you'd try and have a positive influence on the game. Which he was, until he had a brain melt.

I thought he looked quite lively when he came on. Shame he had a complete brain melt as I was looking forward to seeing him and Adnan on the right.

Agreed again, he was actually getting himself about and playing at a high tempo. Something we actually desperately needed.

You could tell Fabio was keen to make an impression when he came on. Sadly, he produced an overzealous challenge as a result. I'd love to know what has gone on with the lad and why he's fallen so badly out of favour. Theoretically, he should have been perfect as our utility left and right full back (ala Phil Neville, John O'Shea), and it'd have meant we'd stop wasting Smalling and Jones at right back.

You freeze someone out, play wingers and CBs in their position ahead of them, play them once for 10 minutes all season, then fling them on for the last 20 of a tense FA Cup tie and expect them to be up to pace?

Management.
Spot on...

In fairness to Moyes, getting Fabio on was clearly a last resort. He'd already taken Valencia off, and had he been on the pitch still, it's a dead cert that he'd have gone in at RB.

Ignore a 23 year old the whole season to the point where he considers leaving and then wonder why he made a stupid decision.

The desperation to blame Moyes for everything has peaked with this post.

The tackle was bad. He could have seriously injured the Swansea player. However I feel for him. He has been marginalised all season. He was enthusiastic but lacking a bit of sharpness. I hope he stays he was really good in 2010-11 when he had a run of games. On his day he is easily better than Buttner.

I only saw it as a replay as I went for a shit just after he came on and when I got back he was gone. In slow-motion it looked stonewall red.

And thats why its all come home to roost. Fabio should be fit and ready to play, having been Evra's standin all season. Instead he comes in out of the cold, knowing hes been forgotten about and not being given a chance. Sure, he was overeager to impress and made a bad tackle, but honestly it would just have been a continuation of the story if Fabio came on, played well and was then never seen again... Again

I feel sorry for him because he's obviously played his last game for us and there won't be too many clubs lining up to sign him let alone pay him a good wage.

Yeah! DOWN WITH FABIO! It's not like his brother's ever gotten a stupid red card, or cost us matches!

Last time he played he scored. That was about 2 months ago. This time he gets sent off. I don't even blame him here. Obviously trying to make an impact and prove a point but trying too hard has led to him putting in a late high tackle. He probably won't play for us again now , but for a lot of games this season it's baffling as to why he didn't get one of the full back spots when Rafael was injured and when Evra is playing like muck. Instead we get a centre back and a winger at full back which is just not good enough.

Sorry, but we don't know the circumstances behind why Fabio has been frozen out. If he's trained poorly or had a bad attitude, then Moyes is right to have marginalised him. Similarly, if Fabio has indicated his intention to leave on a free, then I can totally understand Moyes not relying on him.

On the other hand, if Moyes has just inexplicably ignored him, then that's bad. Somehow though, I don't see that being the case.

It'd be disappointing if that was his last appearance for us. Yeah he was eager to impress but it doesn't make it Moyes' fault any more than it is when players like Hernandez make poor decisions. He should have been professional enough to control himself and not let frustration get the better of him. If he's not capable of that what use is he to us anyway?

Well you're not making a good impression..

That Fabio has not been deemed good enough for the first team is not grounds to blame Moyes for him getting himself sent off, and he's been playing reserve football. There's no defence for Fabio, it was stupid.

He has played three reserve games over half a season. Like I said, he has played 300 minutes the whole season, including reserve football. I would be more critical of him if he was a regular and did the same thing but he is just a kid who has barely had any football.

Feel bad for him, if ever there was a single moment that makes up a managers mind, that was it. Probably the last time we will see Fabio on the pitch for us.

I don't get it. He was awesome in the latter half of 2011. I don't think he's been given a fair chance by Moyes.

Play Fabio (after his ban), for 3 games in a row

We'll be singing Viva Da Silva throughout games

People are making far too much of this. He's a talented player who, for whatever reason, Moyes doesn't particularly rate. The red card was a rush of blood to the head from a player who looked a bit too eager to please. Calling him an idiot or saying that must be why Moyes never plays him is both knee-jerk and overly-simplistic.

If Moyes has plans for Fabio in the squad, which sadly I don't think he does, then I doubt this incident will change that. Likewise, had he scored today, I'm still not sure that would alter Moyes' view of him.

Poor fabio :( felt like no one wants to see him again after that red. Let's not forget when Rafael was rash. Before the red card, Fabio was trying to inject some urgency into the game. I appreciate that. He should get more chances. Barely been in the team.

I do not blame him for the red card. The blame is on Moyes, 100%. Here is a player who Moyes is determined to alienate and refuses to play him in virtually all circumstances. He started one game this season, against Crystal Palace, and performed excellently. His last appearance came in October, he scored as a substitute against Norwich. Moyes has not given him a single chance since then until today, despite his versatility and proven quality. Our only right-back has had plenty of injury problems this season. Instead of calling upon Fábio, Moyes persists with Smalling or Valencia who are not fullbacks, and have continually proven their incompetence when Moyes selects them to play as fullbacks. He can't even get a game at left-back, despite the appalling form of Evra (which has been partially caused by Moyes' overusing of this 32 year old player) and Büttner's staggering lack of ability (which is not masked by one decent cross out of ten).

I wish that Fábio will leave. He's been treated disgustingly by Moyes, and deserves a fair chance elsewhere. I feel sorry for him. Eager to impress when Moyes is left with no option but to select him, he is overly enthusiastic and makes a reckless challenge. I do not blame him.

Or play fabio in rafaels shirt while he's injured ;)

Feel sorry for him.

He hasn't been given a chance all season and then he gets thrown on unexpectedly in a game where the team isn't performing and with him obviously being desperate to prove himself.

He's been managed absolutely appallingly by both Fergie and Moyes. Not let go but not given a chance either, despite some god awful out of position players playing in his place.

Also, it's a bit harsh to say he cost us the game. The embarassingly poor previous 80 minutes, leaving a basically dead Darren Fletcher on, and leaving the only Swansea player in the box unmarked 6 yards out despite everyone being in defence, probably had something to do with it aswell.

In fact I'd put it mostly down to a management clusterfeck. Poor team selection, poor player management, and then inability to see one of your players is exhausted when you still have a sub left, despite him looking like he might collapse any moment.

good post. the short sighted will obviously say he cost us the game.. the same short sighted who can only see a player being played or not is solely due to fitness.

EDIT: While It obviously hurts to see United lose, this may have been a blessing. We could not have handled another game......with a squad that has so many injuries.

Aren't Fabio and Rafael meant to be ridiculously close? Is it possible that if Fabio leaves and settles elsewhere, Rafael might start to get itchy feet to join him?

I agree with this. Haven't played more than 100 minutes during the entire season and then pushed on a game when we had no other choice. Tries to impress and gets a reckless challenge. Well, it happens and has happened in the past. I like him so I hope he leaves, he deserves better than how he has been treated this season.

Merry-go-round with 'why is Moyes at fault for not playing x, y, z'. Most annoying part was that some people were pretty happy that Rio got injured and we could finally get Fabio on just to get sent off in two or three minutes. Sums up how clueless some people are. I've said that Fergie didn't rate him as of late, nor does Moyes, we've talked about it in the other thread ( Smalling at RB nonsense ). Wonder who'll be next that could've saved the planet but for Moyes. Zaha grows to be the new hero.
Which is rubbish. If you've paid any attention at all you'd have noticed Fabio's injuries after that run in the team and that as we've seen over the years, Evra plays basically every game. Last season Fergie said that to fix his lack of games we'd send him to QPR so as not to waste him.

Give the kid a break! He messed up, thats it. His not the first or last kid to get a red for a stupid challenge. I think Moyes will handle this fine. This will not end his United career.

Moyes fault 100% only has competition from other similar posts in this thread for both retarded posts so far this year and agenda posting this year.

Stupid challenge, though it was the most entertaining thing that happened in the second half for us which says a lot as well. I really can't see Fabio getting another chance now under Moyes which is a real shame. Hopefully us letting fabio go doesn't impact Rafael at all.
