How can he given sympathy, how is Moyes at fault for his act of lunacy and utter stupidity? I hate how he's become another darling of the anti-Moyes brigade, that is why he shouldn't be picked. Smalling may not be a good right-back (he is NOT a right back anyway and is sacrificing for the team) but he hasn't done something that stupid that I can remember. Yeah, he started a champions league final, but he hasn't progressed since then, while Rafael HAS. He has no excuses, he either improves and impresses Moyes without being an idiot, or he packs his bags.

Merry-go-round with 'why is Moyes at fault for not playing x, y, z'. Most annoying part was that some people were pretty happy that Rio got injured and we could finally get Fabio on just to get sent off in two or three minutes. Sums up how clueless some people are. I've said that Fergie didn't rate him as of late, nor does Moyes, we've talked about it in the other thread ( Smalling at RB nonsense ). Wonder who'll be next that could've saved the planet but for Moyes. Zaha grows to be the new hero.

I don't really know how you can argue that this proves he can't be trusted.

He hasn't been given a chance all season and only got a game today because Rio got injured and Valencia had already been taken off.

He's still very young so some brashness is to be expected. He came on today and wanted to be involved in everything. It might not have been the best thing to be doing but he was at least showing some commitment and effort, and in all honesty the only thing he was guilty of with the foul was over-committing.

It was a stupid thing to do, I don't think anyone would deny that, but footballers do stupid things from time to time, even ones that start every game. It's hardly a shock that a young player desperate to prove himself did something daft while trying to make an impression.

We've persisted with Evra at left back despite him obviously having ambitions of being the new (old) Gareth Bale, Buttner seems to have been his cover by default despite looking completely inept more often than not, Rafael and Evans have even played there ahead of him despite not being left backs.

He's watched a winger and two center backs play at right back ahead of him, despite the former not being up to scratch and the latter two looking uncomfortable at best.

He's seen the likes of Young, Kagawa, Hernandez, Fellaini and Cleverley get regular games despite barely ever having an impact or doing anything of any use. All the while he's either been left out of the squad entirely, or included in it with absolutely no hope of getting on the pitch short of a defensive crisis.

It's easy to say that he's been unimpressive for the last 2 and half years when he's spent half a year without getting a kick, a year shafted out on a shitty loan deal at a doomed club where he was constantly played out of position, and essentially a year out injured.

You can't completely disregard the fact that before this he was regarded one of the most talented young players we had in the squad, so much so that the greatest manager of all time picked him to play a CL final against Barca.

I really hope we stick with him and give him a proper chance to prove himself because it'd be ridiculous and grossly unfair to base your entire opinion of him on his showing today.

Fixed. In future, remember paragraphs are a friend and not an enemy.

A post more than a few lines long on a forum, whatever will we do?

Here's some hints...

They aren't paragraphs. You've just put each sentence on a new line. A paragraph doesn't have a length limit you know?

I am aware my post needs a bit of editing.

Some people are so unappreciative.

It does if you expect anybody to read it.

I knew my post needed editing, but a putting each sentence on a new line is equally as stupid as not putting in any line breaks at all.

You'd have thought I'd written something taking up half the page rather than the 15-ish lines I actually wrote.
At least thanks to your post now I know why when I'm reading an article on Daily Mirror's website there are always one-sentence paragraph. That's even worse than block of text.

Where have you been for 2.5 years? He's played well for us and well for QPR
I don't think so. You have to admit he hasn't played well enough, you seem to remember the end of the 10-11 season. We all expected more from him, didn't we?

Fabio was utterly stupid today but ffs you can't go around saying "he can't be trusted" -- when has he gotten sent off before? His brother has gotten away with a couple of those types of tackles in the past.

Very silly from him today, can't be any doubt about that. I don't think this should lead to him being written off, was a poor rash decision by someone who's clearly not as sharp as he could be. I don't think it's right though to link his red card today to him being pretty frozen out. It's not like he was a constant liability like this before. This was just a stupid decision from a young player who hasn't played much. That said given he doesn't seem rated by Moyes wouldn't be surprised if thats not the last straw for him.

No it's not, I made your post more readable yet you still come and act a tosser. Half of those space breaks had 2 sentences, a lot better than a 20-30 sentence wall of text.

Zaha would not have been able to change the game imo anyway, its a shame we went out with that but I believe it would have gone to a replay if we had 11 men on the pitch.

Actually he got sent off in a cup game if I remember correctly. We some how ended up winning it 1-0.

Didn't see the bitterness in his play as some have mentioned - was definitely very eager, probably "I am only playing due to dumb luck and I've got 20 minutes to make it count". Easy to see why red was given though I did think Dean was going to just show a yellow, after all he hadn't given Flores a yellow for a deliberate handball.

Ignore a 23 year old the whole season to the point where he considers leaving and then wonder why he made a stupid decision.

We should appeal his red card for the lolz.

I had about 15 lines of text. I've already gone back and edited it into paragraphs, not bullet points like you did. Paragraphs tend to consist of a lot more than two sentences, and it's not the first time on this forum that I've seen people saying something along the lines of "tl;dr" when faced with something consisting of more than a few lines, as if it doesn't just make them appear lazy and stupid. There's nothing clever about putting in a line break every sentence or two and it doesn't even make it easier to read because you end up pausing when the next thing follows directly on. I know I needed paragraphs but what you did wasn't putting it into paragraphs, it was just haphazardly pressing enter every sentence or two. I probably wouldn't have been arsed if you hadn't patronisingly schooled me on what a paragraph was whilst actually getting it wrong yourself.

Seriously, we have some utter feckwits posting on here when they prefer to criticise the manager rather then the individual player for getting himself sent off.

It was obviously a stupid thing for him to do, but it also isn't that surprising giving his treatment so far this year. We don't have to criticise one or the other.

Agreed but then there are also equally short-sighted people who think that this negates the argument of is Fabio a better full back option than Smalling/Buttner. I'm still inclined to think yes.

I wasnt trying to patronise you @alex99, was genuinely trying to be helpful yet you've decided to take a patronising tone yourself. Why I bothered I do not know, you have issues.

 You are the same poster who argued with my point in the lingaard thread that we would need to adjust our playing style to suit him and then made the same point later on. So apologies if I dont take your opinion seriously anymore. The lad has played a total of 300 minutes this season, including reserve football so yeah call him shit, etc.

What treatment? Not being picked often which happens to every footballer at some point in their career? It's nothing to do with Moyes, it's on Fabio. It was a stupid challenge to make and totally unnecessary after he made a poor pass.

Very stupid today by him but still baffling why he's not been given a chance at all. That's actually the bigger concern for me

I have no idea what you're on about in the first bit, you don't seem very bright.

And I've not called Fabio shit, he made a stupid tackle which deserves criticism. It's nothing to do with how much football he's played in the first team. Weird.

I thought he looked quite lively when he came on. Shame he had a complete brain melt as I was looking forward to seeing him and Adnan on the right.

From his performances? Not really. Being picked more? Definitely

First of all, you have no idea how bright I am so feck off. Particularly when you have a poor memory. Its not weird, its linked. The less football you play the more likely you are to make a mistake.

Sorry what?? I really don't get this.

He's not played all season, gets his chance and instead of thinking "Right I'll try and impress now" he has probably cost himself any trust his manager will have him and in that moment arguably ended his United career. It was a stupid tackle and deserves a red, no one else is to blame except him. He hasn't played football for a while but it doesn't mean he should of forgotten how to play!

Seems a bizarre stick for people to beat Moyes with, he got slated for not playing him, he gives him a chance and he blows it himself and it's somehow Moyes fault? Not buying that one myself.

Well you're not making a good impression..

That Fabio has not been deemed good enough for the first team is not grounds to blame Moyes for him getting himself sent off, and he's been playing reserve football. There's no defence for Fabio, it was stupid.

Rubbish pass and a stupid challenge. Only has himself to blame. I'm not listening to these excuses saying he was eager to impress.
