Anyone who genuinely blames Moyes for that red is genuinely stupid. Like seriously do you know your arsehole from your mouth?

No one is genuinly blaming Moyes for the red; most people are, however, gutted for Fabio and thus make excuses for him. I really wanted him to play so well that Moyes had no alternative but to play him next match. The most annoying part was that Fabio really wanted something - he was arguably the only other player, besided Hernandes perhaps, who looked eager - too eager it proved.

Moyes has shown himself to be a pragmatist in the way he handled Rooney, I think he will give Fabio more chances. Slevs messed up his point slightly with his two fingers to the manager comment but the first bit of what he said was right, Fabio has been frozen out for a long time and he shouldnt be judged so quickly or harshly. Rafa made mistakes but came good, I think Fabio will be given the chance to show he has learned from this as well.

What strikes me is that, despite his stupidity on the tackle and the subsequent red card, he was the only player who looked fecked about really pressing and winning the ball back during a time when Swansea were all over us.

I actually do believe that some of the blame has to lie with Moyes and even to an extent Fergie. Look how rash Rafael used to be, but with a succession of games he's now reigned in the rashness but kept everything else that was good about his game.

We've already talked it through with Genius Me and it still dodn't convince me, go to the thread with the title 'This Smalling at right back nonsense' and check my post where I've counted how many games Fabio could've played in the league if he stayed here.

Oh, and argument that 'Evra plays basically every game' is rubbish too, because if we had some decent back up to cover him in more than meaningless games then he would have been rested more of then too I suppose. He was tired last season and is tired now.

This part is just bull shit, Evra plays every game because he's the only one in our backline that actually manages to stay fit. That and him effectively being the captain means he plays every game as long as he's able to walk. Evans has played left back for Northern Ireland and he could do a job there like Smalling does at right back, but you don't see Evra being given the chance to rest.

Yea, some games he's literally walking because he's tired, what is hard to understand here?

Doubt it. Fabio's gone, Rooney is a special case as Moyes clearly wants him to stay and sign a new contract.

I'm pointing out the real reason why Evra plays every game, instead of your reasoning that it's because we've no decent backup at his position which is clearly untrue.

Oh but I do think that is true in fact. You mentioned moving Evans, well, imagine that we've played with Evans in the LB and Smalling in the RB ( because Rafael is often injured ), that would leave us not only with handicapped mobility from our fullbacks but as well with problems in the CB. For this reason I believe, Evans is not getting a game there ( and thankfully so ).

As said, Fabio is not rated by Moyes so that does leave us with no cover - bar Büttner that is. I do understand that Evra's a great captain and such, but so is Vidić.

Yeah Evra's problem is that he's been playing 50+ games consistently every season since he's been here.

So wouldn't the real issue be with cover at right back and centreback? Rio and Vidic cannot stay fit, Rafael's cover at right back is Jones/Smalling who both have issues staying fit themselves whereas at left back there's Evra, Evans, Buttner and Fabio.

I reckon our defense needs a complete overhaul, it's no use having so many players, no matter how talented, when they're all not available for at least 50% of the season.

Aye, it can be a problem at CB, not saying it's not, but it's still 5 defenders for the CB spots and I think that Michael Keane will join us next season ( while Rio will be off ). At fullbacks you've got Evra and Büttner on the left who are indeed LBs ( even if the latter lacks quality in defending ) and just Rafael as a true RB, and here's the problem, we lack both a LB and a RB.

And whereas I can somehow accept that we're playing Smalling at RB, who has been solid until recent two games there, but can't imagine both Smalling and Evans playing as RB and LB simultaneously because it would hamper our forward game too much.

Going to Cardiff City on loan according to Daily Mail.

Completely agree. Fabio may not have played much recently and was just over enthusiastic, but he's not a fecking 18 year old. He's played in a CL final for goodness sake. He was an idiot for going in the way he did. Valencia didn't escape the criticism for his red card from the Caf', so this guy shouldn't as well. Both were stupid.

I can't see him reach the heights Rafael has reached. He didn't show that at QPR, and you would have expected him to shine more than any of their other players. He should go out, whether on loan or not, to try and get some playing time - he deserves that. I just can't see it being here.

Cardiff would be a good place to go.

Would certainly be a good move for him. I could see Solskjaer getting the best out of him.

Is it just me or is Rafael developed much more than Fabio since their time here? And by develop, I mean physically, put on some muscle?

Injuries couldn't have helped Fabio's progress, but I think Rafael strengthening up has certainly helped him a fair bit, which to my eye, looks like Fabio's still very light weight.

Sort of. But at the same time I think Rafael's lost a lot of sharpness in his play on the ball, looks a lot less technical than his first season and I'm not sure thats the case with Fabio

They are not allowed to loan two players from the same club, I thought?

Pretty sure QPR had Huddlestone and Townsend from Spurs last season.

Really? I did a quick google after Top's comment and what I found supported his theory.

Why?

That probably means he's more or less gone considering his contract expires in 6 months.

It could also mean that if he has a great spell, he can renew his contract. I still believe that he can contribute a lot at United. He has all the attributes required to be a top fullback.

If he has a good loan spell I doubt he would be looking to stick around here after how this season has gone. It would just be a case of showcasing himself to get the best deal at another club really.

The best of luck to him if that is the case. If he plays well and wants to continue playing with his brother, he may well consider signing for United. There is no doubt to me, and most members here it seems, that he should be first choice back-up for both LB and RB positions. If he proves at Cardiff that he is to be trusted in the PL, then that may be a possibility.

It's a good move for Fabio but I don't see the benefit to the club from this since his contract is running down. It's not like we're stocked for options at full back given how injury prone Jones and Rafael are.

He should get plenty of game time this season at United, but he has hardly got a look in; therefore, it is a very good move for him. Not sure it's such a great idea for United, but Moyes seems to think that Büttner is better.

Meh its hard to build a case for Fabio because he's barely been given a chance but he's surely a better player than Buttner.

Feel for him a bit. Got a chance to show what he could do against Swansea, came on and looked really eager to prove himself. A bit too eager though, hence flying into that tackle that got him sent off.

Surplus to requirements here so might as well go play football somewhere else until he is released in the summer and him get off the wage bill just now.

Don't get me wrong, I have wanted to see fabio starting/playing over buttner all season. But I just can't see it happening any more. I guess the brother thing could draw him back to the club if we really wanted to keep him after a loan spell. But I can see him moving on regardless.

To be fair, I can see what Buttner offers at LB in terms of decent delivery and a good left foot given we don't have anyone on the left who is adept at hugging the touchline (I don't think Januzaj has the raw pace to do it, and he likes to drift off it anyway). It's more that given the amount of time Smalling has spent at RB (even though he's a good defender, he's defensively not a RB and has been at fault for goals) and how shit/aimless our football is with Valencia and Smalling down the flank why he's not even been given a chance here and there. I can understand why we need Smalling's height at times (even though he fecked up with Adebayor's goal) but Fabio really should have played more.

And yes, I know he got sent off. I highly doubt that Moyes didn't rate him though because he thought he's likely to get sent off often.

Cardiff don't have an players on loan from the PL, do they? If so they could take both Fabio and Zaha, as I think the limit is two season long domestic loans or something like that.
