If Moyes thinks Buttner is better than Fabio, then I really don't know what the feck is going on.

Moyes likes a left footed left back. That's all there is to it. Baines was his main source of creativity at Everton and like it or not, which I don't, he loves his full backs lumping it in from deep.

Buttner is shite at that though, he is shite at everything. Maybe Moyes could give Fabio a go at right back, as neither Rafael nor Smalling have been that good.

I agree, he's wank, but he's left-footed all the same. Fabio, in my opinion, is pretty much the perfect cover option to his brother. I'll never understand why Moyes doesn't see it that way, as we wouldn't need to buy in cover for over a decade. I don't know why that hasn't happened, though. With Rafa out, we've been impotent going forward as a result.

We fallen significantly if we have a campaign to get Fabio into the team. He's average at best!!

I don't agree with that. He has been good for us when he has played.

If he doesn't play tonight, he never will. Last chance for Moyes to give him a run in a United shirt in my opinion.

He's genetically identical to his brother, so he must be equally as good. Must be. It's science. What, Moyes doesn't believe in science now?

Give science a chance.

He would probably do a Pogba if so.

Would be a shame. He had much better potential than Rafael when they both joined us. I remembered him being the better overlapping full back and had more composure back then.

Even Rafael himself said that Fabio was better than him back then. It was just unfortunate that Fabio had Evra in his way.

Really looking forward to seeing him play tonight. Hopefully he has an absolute stormer at right back and shows why he should be 2nd choice on the right.

I assume it is because Buttner is on a long contract whereas Fabio's is up in the summer.

God, I hope that's not it.

Or do I? I'm not sure. Which is worse...

DM thinks Buttner is better than Fabio.
or
DM would rather play a shit player because we're so limited financially that we can't afford to bin him off and keep the better one.

Nothing to do with being 'limited financially', you cant force a player to leave - anyway I assume it is a bit of both, I cant see him going for Buttner just due to contract but when there is not much to choose between them then it makes sense

No, but neither do you have to play him for the rest of his contract.

We could sign Fabio up as well, or if DM doesn't fancy that, get somebody that's better than either of them.

I can't see any scenario in which we are forced to use Buttner for the next few seasons, other than one where we are constrained in replacing him.

I think I've said all I have to say on the Fabio saga, but here it goes again.

He is twice the player Büttner is. If Moyes fails to recognise that then there's limited thinking from his point of view. Furthermore, I find it one-dimensional to play a left back to cross early when clearly we lack the strikers to capitalize on it. RVP isn't Drogba in the air and Rooney is only slightly better (seemed to have lost a bit of that edge as he was terrific in the air). Fabio, contrary to Büttner, is great at linking up with the attackers in and around the opposition 18 yard box. Watching both players, I'm not sure Fabio crosses much worse with his left than Büttner does anyhow. Play Fabio behind Januzaj and you have one right footed and one left footed, but both are good with both feet; preferably, I would like to see Fabio behind Nani against Stoke on the left with Rafael on the right behind Zaha. I think Januzaj needs the rest and Zaha needs the opportunity.

It's a travesty that Fabio isn't given a chance as he is a really exciting player. He's very quick, excellent technique, good shot, great link-up play and quite composed in defense. Büttner only has good top speed and some fancy dribbles that result in very little.

I think Moyes has made it pretty clear that he wants to bring in another fullback - I dont see Buttner or Fabio being good enough to be first choice so I think we are just talking about which one is kept on as cover really.

Agreed, but even in that case...Fabio by a mile, not just because he's the better of the but he can actually do a pretty decent job at RB as well.

I dont disagree - plus Fabio is a bit younger and breaking up the twins would be a shame.

But clearly Moyes favours Buttner on the left - could be that he only sees Fabio as right back cover and puts him behind Smalling/Valencia for that role

Why not put it in plain writing:

Fabio by a mile, becaues he's the better of the two, but he can actually do a pretty decent job. (no point in dragging it further)

Yeah, absolutely. It's a weird one. Fabio's hardly had a look in. Moyes probably really, really wants a left footed player at LB to put those pointless crosses into the box most of the time.

Not too sure what you mean Rossa - coz I did kinda put it in plain writing...i think?

I think Moyes's problem with Fabio on the left is that he wants the full backs to overlap on the outside and put a ball in, I guess particularly with us where we have no natural left footed winger it might hurt our game on that side to use a right sided full back as well- although can't remember how good his crossing is with his left. Not sure about right side though, can't see why he hasn't had more chance there when rafael has been out, especially as his one game, Crystal Palace I think, he played well there.

It's odd really as in pre-season he seemed to be ahead of buttner in terms of playing time and got a decent amount of time and don't think he did anything wrong.

Indeed you did - I was trying to be funny. Last time, I swear!

My point was just that Fabio will do a decent job, be it at right back, left back or whatever, whereas Büttner will not do a decent job, be it anywhere...

Surprise, surprise.

More Moyes-blasting, when Fergie barely picked Fabio too.

Fabio was injured a lot for Fergie, then spent a full year at loan - so the comparison isn't very good. Fabio has been injury free this year. Fergie gave Fabio quite a few chances, but he had this nasty habit of never lasting 90 minutes due to injury.

It's understandable if he prefers left footed players on the left but I don't understand why he isn't the 2nd choice RB at least. We lose so much going forward when Smalling plays that it's criminal not utilize a better player in Fabio there.

And before someone says it, it's not Moyes bashing and nor I am saying this because he's Rafael's twin.

If you had put that last sentence in white print, we would be witnessing the apocalypse, mate! C'mon!!:D
