Coentrao seems a perfect fit regarding our need and their lack of desire to play or keep him. Plus the fact we nearly signed him in August.
If we got him it would be a good start for Moyes. Anything under £15m would be a brilliant deal I think. Obviously not guaranteed to be a success but it would be a good sign we're willing to think a bit outside the box. Can't see the Koke transfer happening either now or in the summer.
I've missed a bunch of episodes of the Real Madrid Soap Opera this season, so can someone explain to me what's going on with Coentrao and Real Madrid? In the summer, I thought Real stopped the deal because the player they wanted to replace him with signed for someone else.
Has someone else been used at left back or have they found another player they can replace him with and selling Coentrao to us depends on whether they can get him or not?
If we do get him, how long before he is moved to CM?
A CM partnership of Jones-----CoentraoIf we do get him, how long before he is moved to CM?
Get moving, get a bid in there. This one is clearly do-able and would be a great buy.

I would prefer Shaw if I had a choice, but Coentrao would be an excellent signing for us.
The Coentrao deal is off. Madrid (Ancelotti) don't want to sell.
This guy has never made more than 26 league apps in a season. Is he another sick note?
You're welcome. Thanks for finally giving us the definitive word on this. I've been trying to ignore the speculation until Danny1982 can let me know the truth. Will pass the message on.
There's been a few things on twitter tonight about a deal with Coentrao, but who knows how true it is. I'm glad Moyes actually gave the players a bollocking after Swansea. At least he didn't think we really were quite good after getting to the edge of the box a few times.. I trust James Ducker more than most journalists as well.
Chelsea need a left back, is it not odd that Mourinho doesn't seem to be interested if he's that good? I've never been convinced by him, but I've only seen him play about 10 times so I could be wrong.
Anyone got access to the Times?

Imagine buying players just so teams you like can't have them.I don't think that's the way you rate a player. This is a club who spent £30m on Willian who does sweet feck all.
I'm not convinced that had anything to do with Mourinho though, they'd tried to sign him before and if Spurs weren't set to sign him I doubt they'd have gone back in for him. He's been starting for them recently though, so he can't be that bad.I don't think that's the way you rate a player. This is a club who spent £30m on Willian who does sweet feck all.
At this point even a Bebe-esque signing would give us a lift.
Thank youDavid Moyes tore into his Manchester United players in a furious dressing- room tirade after the FA Cup third-round defeat at home to Swansea City on Sunday.
The United manager was incensed by the poverty of the performance, despite largely defending his players in public, and warned that futures were at stake unless they arrest the slump that has added to a growing sense of gloom at Old Trafford.
Swansea’s 2-1 victory was United’s fourth defeat in their past six home matches and heightened the pressure on Moyes before the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final away to Sunderland this evening, a competition that may represent his only realistic chance of silverware this season.
Having admitted that he needs to sign players “urgently”, though, Moyes is hopeful of a breakthrough in the transfer market, with United thought to have agreed personal terms with Fabio Coentrão, the Real Madrid and Port-ugal left back for whom they made a failed bid in the summer.
Real have claimed publicly that Coentrão is not for sale, but it isbelieved that the Spanish giants aretrying to drive up the price and are open to selling, although there is a risk of the deal getting dragged out.
Moyes turned to the 25-year-old, who has won 43 caps for Portugal, amid reluctance to meet Everton and Southampton’s £25 million valuations of Leighton Baines and Luke Shaw respectively.
Angered by the display againstSwansea, Moyes has demanded a swift response against Sunderland, but his hopes of avoiding another cup upset have been dealt a severe blow, withneither Wayne Rooney nor Robin van Persie, his first-choice strikers, likely to be fit to feature at the Stadium of Light.
“We have to look into a lot of things,” Moyes said. “It’s not just this period, near enough since the start of the season we have never really caught fire.
“We’ve had moments, bits of good play, some good results, but not really as consistent or reliable as we’d like to be, particularly at home, so we have to try to make that better.”
Rooney may face a late fitness assessment, but there is an acceptance that Moyes would be taking a huge risk by playing him.
The England forward has missed two of his club’s past three matches withan abductor problem that would ordinarily require about a fortnight’s full rest. Yet with the Barclays Premier League champions so heavily reliant on their talisman and wrestling with numerous other injuries, Rooney has shown a willingness to play through the pain barrier. He could return to the team for the league match at home to Swansea on Saturday.
Van Persie, who has been out for the past four weeks with a thigh strain, has begun light training after returning to Manchester from the Netherlands, where he was receiving treatment, but the striker has indicated that he is not ready to return to action.
Phil Jones, the defender-cum-midfielder, has a chance of playing against Sunderland, but Moyes will still be without Rafael da Silva, Marouane Fellaini, Nani and Ashley Young. Rio Ferdinand, the centre half, underwent a scan yesterday on a knee injurysuffered against Swansea.
Moyes is desperate to sign new players this month as the club bid to avoid the calamity of finishing outside the top four and the severe impact that would have on their summer rebuilding plans, not to mention their prospects of tying Rooney to a new contract and retaining other key assets such as Van Persie and David De Gea.
The potential capture of Coentrão would be a boost at a time when the scrutiny on United is likely to be intense after their litany of failures in the transfer market last summer, although Moyes has been told that money will be no obstacle to signing players.
Coentrão aside, Marco Reus is a leading target, but United’s hopes of prising the Germany attacking midfielder from Borussia Dortmund have been dealt another setback with the news last week that Robert Lewandowski, his team-mate, has agreed to join Bayern Munich in the summer.
Koke is another player Moyes wants, but as Atlético Madrid are level on points with Barcelona at the top of La Liga and dark horses to win theChampions League, it would require an outlandish offer for the club even to consider parting company with thegifted young Spain midfielder.
Coentrão has agreed a deal to join United but the champions may miss out on the left-back for a second consecutive window as Real do not want to sell any players during January.

This is definitely the signing we're most likely to make this window. A) It makes a lot of sense, B) It'll probably be good value, C) we already know we went for him in the summer so there's confirmed interest and D) Ducker is one of the more reliable journalists and he's reporting it.
Would be a very good buy, I think. Would already be our best LB and had the potential to improve. At least we'd have solved one of our problems in this window, a bit of progress.
And he can also play in midfield.
