Fabio Coentrao

He looks class for Portugal. Portugeezers generally do well enough here. £15 million or less is a steal. Might help Nani settle (Buttner was bought for this reason with RVP). He cried when he didn't sign for us.

There's really no reason not to sign him. Even if he's shit, he's still a decent backup at that price and will make Evra kick on with the new competition like Buttner was supposed to do before we realised all he is good for is havin' the odd spliff with Robin down the back of Carrington so he feels a bit at home.

Did they ever get another left back? Didn't the first move fail because they missed out on Siqueira?

Surely, it's the otherway around?

My favourite bit in that Times article is that Moyes gave the shower of shites a bollocking after Swansea.

I know but I find the thought of Ronaldo and Nani consoling Coentrao while he's blubbing a bit unbelievable.

We know two of them are pretty emotional guys. Coentrao looks like he'd shed a tear if his hairdryer broke.

Is he cup tied for the CL?

Bingo. Delighted if he ripped them a new one, but expecting people here to say it's the reason for our next bad result.

I thought Moyes had gone a bit soft since joining us, that he was almost a bit intimated by some of our stars in the dressing room. Refreshing to see that he's apparently told a few that their place at the club is in jeopardy and that they need to buck up their ideas or get fecked.

Somewhat relevant, but not...I remember when Madrid signed Diarra and Huntelaar 4 or 5 years ago and both had been involved in European football. I remember them being allowed to add one of them to their CL squad.

Not sure if the cup-tied rule has been updated or not but I think UEFA allow clubs a one-player let off.

That's only if they'd played in the Europa League and not the Champions League, if I remember correctly.

Sweet. Woody, do your job.

Agree with all this. The players have let him down, glad he's letting them know it. Make it clear that if they don't step up they'll be gone long before he is.

He'd be a great buy for £12M, I wonder if he'd actually start out as a left winger with Evra finishing the season at left back.

At £12 million he would be a steal. Would be great to have him for in this transfer window for that price.

He's skilful as feck, our fans will love him. Will just add a instant injection of quality to us. It'll be obvious how good he is straight away. 25 is a great age for him to move too.

IF we get him would he play at LB or LW? I just can't see Evra being dropped.

I guess he they will both share the role but it would be interesting to see if both of them can play down the left and Adnan/Nani moved ot the RW.

This is one signing that does tick a lot of boxes.

We complain about value all the time because typically we try to sign players which the other club doesn't want to sell. We often buy the star players of mid table PL teams and have always paid top dollar for this.

If the club is so hung up on value then the key is buying players who are out of favour and actually available. This is how other teams pick up such bargain deals which we as fans then complain about.

Coentrao would be a fantastic signing - he can play all three of the positions we need to strengthen in, he would be available at a very reasonable price, he isn't CL tied, he is just coming into his peak, interest has been confirmed more or less from both sides, his wages are unlikely to be extortionate.

There really isn't any downside except that he is a potential diver, but I can live with that on the balance of things.

Therefore considering all of the above I'm gonna have to put this in the "makes too much sense, won't happen" bracket.

So basically we should sign him, and then sign Shaw in the summer. Perfect.

Sign him and move to three at the back. (FM mode enabled)

---------------------DDG

-----------Jones----Evans----Smalling

----Rafael----------------------------Coentrao

-----------Flether---Carrick---Cleverley

-----------------Adnan/Kagawa

------------------RvP/Rooney

This actually appeals to me considering our wingers are so crap at the moment.

Not enough goal threat in the middle for this to work.

Your 5 3 2 2 formation looks sexy. Hehe

Take Fletcher out and put Adnan there, put Rooney where Adnan is and voila, plenty of goal threat. But a serious lack of Welbeck for my liking.

Still won't win at home.

I will get my coat.

Smalling on the left is football suicide. There's just not enough creativity Carrick and Cleverley in the middle.

Yeah you'd need Evans on the left hand side, and Jones in the middle maybe.

But realistically, I don't ever see us playing that formation.

I could see him easily replacing evra at left back.
