Fabinho

Not that fussed if Fabinho comes or not. There'll be other players. People get so attached to a prospective transfer and lose perspective I think. Got people acting like he's the second coming of Fernando Redondo. If we sign him, great; if we don't, whatever. We'll survive.

I think people are missing the biggest story here.

Not only is he saying Fabinho is close to PSG, but that if Chelsea don't sign two top CM/CDM's we aren't getting Matic.

That means, if he is right, we currently have no strong lead on a CDM.

That last paragraph of Castles article might explain why Di Marzio thinks he's very close to signing for us.

It says that Juventus officials believe that Fabinho is signing for us.

if that article is accurate, i doubt we are getting Fabinho or Matic.

I think it's the first time in a long time that the journo's have no fecking clue who we're after. Some guys are saying it's almost done while others are even denying our interest in Fabinho.

I'm not sure the Peresic stuff was true either that suddenly went quiet, I'm even curious about Morata to be honest.

there's also a possibility, however small, that this could be another "fellaini" window. All bluster and no product. However in saying that I'm very confident on Morata coming, less so on fabinho or matic.

Conflicting reports on fabinho, Two top-tier euro journos saying yes we are in for him. Simon stone saying no, but things might change, and all the hack journo's saying 100% not fabinho.

Matic - No credible journo is reporting he is coming. Low-tier journos saying it's happening and even a medical soon, yet castle says chelsea want two top-tier players before letting him go.

I'm hundred percent sure that there's this delay is because we are refusing to pay exorbitant fees for players we need for the first time in two years. Perisic and Morata deals would've been done by now if we had paid the ridiculous amounts demanded by the selling clubs.

Even if you look at the Lindelof deal, the amount we eventually paid for him was much less than the amount rumored in the media.

I think we should relax. The selling clubs will eventually bow down. Madrid as rich as they're can't keep on refusing 70m euros for a backup player. Inter's financial health is shit too.

I think the confusion is due to us moving on multiple targets for the same position at the same time instead of putting all our eggs in 1 basket till its too late. As a result, the ones who correctly hear of us being in from Fabinho through sources there are adamant it's all about him for us whereas sources who hear about matic put all their weight behind him being the target.

Yes it's said in the article too.

We are completing all the formalities with all our targets before making a final choice between them. Hence the reports of Keane being nailed on or personal terms agreed with Matic news.

Ah I see, I haven't read the piece yet as I prefer avoiding speculative shit from journos during the transfer season. Will read this one then.

Yah that's a fair assessment imo. To add to that, while Woodward gets abuse from impatient muppets, that's actually a smart thing for him to be doing. It can't be easy negotiating fair deal with our bank balance so public, it's a good move to have three or four players for each position and to negotiate simultaneously. It give the selling chairmen all something to worry about.

Yeah which is a really good way to go about the transfer window.

Was apparently the same with Linedlof/Keane.

I wonder how the players feel about this? Michael Keane for instance - one minute he's being lined up to come back to United and the next we've signed Lindelof.

The approach that we now take with our transfers makes perfect sense, but often you hear a player talking about why they chose a particular club and they say stuff like, "X really made me feel wanted" or "X showed the most desire to sign me". The way we do things now is surely going to take away that feeling for a player because they won't know whether we really do want to sign them, or whether they're just third choice in case our first two options fall through. I guess it could potentially even lead to us missing out on players if they know they are just one of several options for us and then another club comes in and makes it clear they are their number one choice. There's always been an element of this I suppose (Aaron Ramsey being an example I particularly remember who chose Arsenal over us because Wenger spoke to him directly), but this new approach could exacerbate that...

I don't have another solution for how to handle transfers, just thought it was an interesting thought.

You're probably overthinking this. I doubt each individual player knows who else has been contacted and what was said to them, so it should be all good.

Why cant they ?

They hold all the cards ,they don't want to sell him so can demand what they want.

It is a quiet transfer window that usual but none of the big clubs have been really busy signing x,y,z.
Maybe they were all waiting for the Confederations cup to finish?

Yeah, I probably am overthinking it! But disagree with the second point - Michael Keane must have known we were also talking to Lindelof...it was all over the press. Similarly Matic and Fabinho must both be aware that we are talking to both of them (if indeed we are).

Well exactly! For this reason I don't think they definitely know anything. They might suspect it, and even if true, they won't know exactly what's been said to the other player to entice them to come. I'm sure they're well aware of the recruitment process and how some players may miss out or not. Cutthroat business, right place at right time, etc etc.

Yeah, I guess it's just a bit more overt now though. No way of knowing exactly what went on of course, but I wonder if Michael Keane actually got to the point of telling friends and family that he was going back to United? He'll feel a bit of an idiot when he ends up at Goodison if so. But yeah, just an idle thought, no biggie :-)

The players and clubs have a say. In itself a list is only worth the papers it's written on.
Actually, it seems Mourinho made a few phone calls to verify the player's interest.
