Fabinho

Fabinho isn't all action at all.
He really is. His favourite position is attacking rightback. Even to the casual fans his forward runs is clear to see. He also covers the widemen very well which we simply don't need in a Herrera / Pogba / DM midfield.
Jose seems to be looking for a midfielder who just sits. A midfielder who let's the centrehalves play out with cover (Bailly and Lindelof strengths) and allows Pogba and Herrera to be let off the leash. That's not Fabinho. That's a waste of his talents.

Castles vs Di Marzio! Will be interesting to see who comes out on top as they both seem to have strong sources.

Though Chelsea have agreed a fee of €40m with Monaco for Tiemoue Bakayoko (another midfielder admired by Mourinho), their unsettled Italian coach also wants a dynamic box-to-box midfielder such as AS Roma's Radja Nainggolan.

It remains unclear how much Chelsea's hierarchy are prepared to invest in recruitment to head off the threat of losing another title winning manager.

PSG want Fabinho as a replacement for Marco Verratti, their high-energy Italy midfielder who is agitating for an exit from the Parisian club amidst strong interest from Barcelona. They have hope to take advantage of other suitors' reluctance to meet Monaco's €45million asking price for Fabinho.

Says Fabinho is Verratti's replacement even though they don't play the same position and I thought they didn't want to sell Verratti anyway? Also says Chelsea want a box to box mid like Naingollan, I thought Bakayoko was a box to box???

All sounds like bs to me, seems like he has no idea what he's talking about

I'm trying to be optimistic and think the "reluctance to meet" the price tag may be a bit of a kick up the arse for Woodward to just pay the fee and be done with it.

As a fullback yes he plays like that more, as a midfielder he's much more reserved. If you're expecting something closer to Herrera than say Carrick then you'll be surprised

If we lose out on our main targets because we 'are reluctant to pay the price' after finishing deservedly 6th then questions will be asked, by both Jose and our best players. We did this to ourselves when we broke the WR for a midfielder, we need to suck it up and get on with it.

Have you watched Matic recently? In his current form he's no significant upgrade on anyone.
This.... I completely agree. There was a reason why Conte changed from 4 in the midfield to 5. So that he can actually decrease the amount of pedestrian walks that Matic was doing with 4 in the mid. And had it not been for Kanté and his excellent form, they would have leaked more goals than West Ham

This. For first time since SAF left there actually seems to be a plan. Summers 14 and 15 were muppet signings basically just to make a statement. Jose knows was he wants and I sense he would rather than no signing to the wrong signing.

People don't seem to have watched him since the 2014/15 season and think he's still some patrolling monster in front of the back 4, when in truth he's more like a cumbersome slug shuffling around the middle of the park avoiding tackles.

Castles vs Di Marzio! Will be interesting to see who comes out on top as they both seem to have strong sources.

di marzio didn't say we were getting him for sure just that we were in for him from what i recall. this castles' piece seems to corroborate that as well as being fresher info and that we are going to miss out on him because psg are supposedly more aggressive in their pursuit of him

i don't think its a case of either/or between castles and di marzio on this one

Can't take Castle's article seriously when he's saying PSG want Fabinho as a replacement for Verratti.

I know Castles is Jose's mouthpiece and all that but let's not forget that 1 or 2 months ago he said we're interested in Joe Hart and are preparing a bid to Sergio Aguero. He's not all that and his reliability is still terrible.

So Verratti, Bakayoko, Fabinho, Nainggolan and Paredes are all going to be making moves this window and we're going to end up with Matic. Fantastic.
Don't rate Bakayoko or Paredes above Matic. We should targeting Nianggolan over Fabinho and Matic though!

Yep. He's still shite.

That's true and he was also adamant that Blind and Mata would be sold last summer and yet both are still here.

If this is true, I notice that it says Conte really doesn't want to sell Matic which was hysterically held against signing him.

Castles vs Di Marzio! Will be interesting to see who comes out on top as they both seem to have strong sources.

Castles: "To explain their failure to secure Fabinho's signature, Juve officials indicated that the player had agreed to join United, an idea lent credence by an interview in his native Brazil in which the player talked about his desire to be reunited with Mourinho, the coach who signed him for Real Madrid as a teenager."

Would assume that's the source of Di Marzio's claims regarding United's bid.

Fabinho would be a great Verratti replacement, not like for like but it rarely ver is. Doesn't matter if they don't want to sell him if he forces a move.

I still have glimmer of hope until bouhafsi confirms it. If he is PSG bound then we might have already heard from him

All 3 reports from Bouhafsi/Di Marzio and Dunc are very similar. We have placed bids (Di Marzio), PSG have made advances but we remain interested (Bouhafsi) and PSG are leading the race (Dunc).

Di Marzio said we've bid and Bouhafsi said PSG made advances.

Nothing they've said is complete opposite from Dunc.

Bouhafsi also said he was a priority for us. If that's true I can't see how he won't end up with us as we are seemingly Fabinho's favoured choice.

Now we're dismissing the guy that is obviously our mouthpiece because it's bad news :wenger:
Now we are elevating a hack who said we were after Hart and Aguero to Joses mouthpiece because it fits with our preconceptions. :wenger:
