Fabinho

It feels like the Caf is creating it's own narrative with what is going on with this. It's incredibly quiet in the media. Even the likes of Di Marzio have been relatively understated on this one. I wonder if they suspect they are being fed duff info on this by agents or Juve as part of their negotiations.

It's because reputable journos don't post definitive statements or daily updates on transfers. They wait till transfers are all but confirmed to talk about it, that's why Di Marzio, Bouhafsi etc have just said we're negotiating and not anything else yet. When it gets close to finalising then there will be a flurry of media reporting around it

In what way is he different to Zanetti?
Zanetti was tasked with being a disciplined sitter in 2010, from what I remember. Fabinho seems to like breaking forward a lot more. Maybe that would change once Mourinho gets his hands on him.

IIRC, it was Thiago Motta who was sitting. Zanetti was a lot like Fabinho last season.
Fair enough. Either way, Mourinho likes to have a holding midfielder who sit and rarely ventures more than 20 yards from his centrebacks. Whether that was Zanetti (as I recalled) or Motta (who I'm willing to admit I forgot about), the point stands about Fabinho not fitting Jose's preferred mould.

I'm actually hoping maybe what we're going to see is something new from Jose next season. United was a bit more adventurous than a typical Mourinho team at times. I'm holding out a bit of hope he might be building something a bit out of his comfort zone. When it comes to Jose, he's his own man, of course, but the words of Sir Alex Ferguson about entertainment in football certainly didn't fall on deaf ears. C'mon Jose, surprise us!! He's certainly capable of it.

Mourinho is a lot more diverse than people pretend, his midfields at Chelsea(2x), Inter, Porto and Real Madrid were all different and they all used different types of players. The one thing I like about Mourinho managing United, is that I'm curious to see what he is going to do.

Spot on. Totally agree.

That's exactly the role Fabinho played against Spurs and many other teams this season, so I don't agree that it would require a dramatic change for him to slot into that role.

I don't really agree about Zanetti or Cambiasso's role either. Zanetti could play that disciplined role but he could also play the more energetic box-to-box role, and the same goes for Cambiasso and Fabinho. It depends on who they're playing against and who they're playing for. They have a limited set of capabilities but the kind of role they played was more varied than you're suggesting. I agree with @JPRouve about Mourinho too - we like to put people in boxes but the facts contradict that limited view.

I just found it particularly odd to say that he doesn't compare to Zanetti given the fact they excelled at fullback or in centre mid and played in much the same way in both.

This ones over then, what a shame.

Fabinho to psg and verratti to Barca.

We're stuck with Matic :(

Without even going into the article are those two Dier and Matic?
Mentions Matic, and then says it depends on Chelsea, it also says Conte wants Radja Nainggolan?

Chelsea getting Bakayoko and Nainggolan while we fund them with purchasing Matic would really get me going. Depressing stuff.

Expected more from that article. Doesn't change much in my mind.

Dunc is a solid source when it comes to Jose/Mendes, but would Monaco actually sell to PSG?

It's going to be very difficult seeing our rivals significantly strengthen while we go for Matic.

Looks clear as day to me that Jose wants a sitting midfielder and not an all action type. Buying Fabinho for that role is like the posters who wanted Pogba to keep it simple and move the ball sideways after spending 90m on him.

With Pogba and Herrera already in place we dont need a blockbuster signing in midfield. Matic is a significant upgrade on Fellaini and will provide Pogba the freedom to do what he was signed to do...man up.

We'll announce someone out the blue in July. These journos are all clueless.

Fabinho isn't all action at all.

So Verratti, Bakayoko, Fabinho, Nainggolan and Paredes are all going to be making moves this window and we're going to end up with Matic. Fantastic.

Have you watched Matic recently? In his current form he's no significant upgrade on anyone.

I know this isn't looking good with the article from Dunc, but he has been a bit hit and miss with us.

The players he reported that would leave last summer (Blind/Rojo/Mata etc) didn't leave, he also linked us with Hart. So I'm hoping he's got this one wrong too.

Classic Duncan bringing City back in to it now he's off to PSG to soften the United story. We've not been linked to Fabinho for weeks, or all summer with any real substance.

Maybe it's a blast at Woody to get a move on, as we know he can dither on deals!

John Terry hardly played last season so bit of a stupid comment tbh.

So was yours, plenty of mediocre players get PL medals, a whole fecking team of them got them the season before last. The fact is Matic is a lumbering, immobile CM that is already in decline and will be 29 by the time the season starts, he's the opposite of what we need to cover Pogba.
