RB is not a problem position for us, but in terms of a CDM I think Fab has a lot more to offer than Matic. The fact he can provide cover/potentially be the successor to Valencia is another feather in his hat but but I definitely think his attributes are better suited to CDM, perticualrly with his passing ability.
Hopefully we sign both mate.
It seems like we are getting both Matic & Fabinho, with Skybet pricing 90% for Matic and 80% for Fabinho to be signed. Haven been following for 2 weeks. What is going on ?

Looks like we're signing Morata as well. If we get both Fabinho and Matic, in addition to Lindelo and Morata, we will be well on our way.

Still missing a top attacker IMO, especially when you compare to the other top 6. We'll have arguably the strongest defence and midfield both for starting and depth, but our attack will be way behind the rest both in terms of pace, quality, and just in players who can score goals. Maybe Mourinho is waiting for Griezmann next summer, and feels he can get by with Mkhitaryan, Mata, Martial, Lingard, Rashford and Morata as the front 6 options.
With us clearly going for both Morata & Perisic, Mou is definitely going for 2 attackers. Given our budget of around 200M euros and likely to get 4 players, still think we are only getting one of Matic/Fabinho, unless we are willing to spend more than that and getting 5 players.

Is Fabinho really a better RB than Valencia? Where does he play for Brazil? Maybe its Fabinho or Semedo for reserve RB. Seems weird though when Jose said Valencia is the best RB in the world and our LB position is unstable and weak. Surely we need to strengthen that first?
Would be a very good window. We'd rely on Shaw coming good (big if but fingers crossed) our GK defence midfield and attack would be very good and give us a chance in the league. Our two world class players would be Pogba and DDG hopefully next season we'd sign the likes of a Dembele or/and a Griezmann to add some shine to what would be a very solid base.
Jose said it would take him 3 years to sort this club out and I really do believe him such the disaster that was LVG.

I'd say Valencia is the overall better RB, but Fabinho could provide better cover there than Darmian. Fabinho isn't first team for Brazil as he's neither a better CDM than Caseimero and Alves is still the preferred RB with, I believe, Rafinha and perhaps even Fagner ahead of him as a RB. Fabinho does play as a RB for the Under 23's though. Last summer it was reported by Castles that Mourinho wanted Fabinho as a RB here, but that may have changed after Fabinho's last season playing solidly as a CDM. However, Mourinho has previously said that he doesn't like shoehorning players into different positions and prefers specialists in every position, so Fabinho effectively being a specialist as a CDM and RB may be the reason that Mourinho perhaps wants a CDM, like Matic, as well as Fabinho.

Has he ever said himself that he prefers to be a RB and wants to play that position? If we buy him as a DM and he's unhappy about that it would make this signing nonsensical. Makes me wonder if this whole RB aspiration is fictitious. Who prefers being a full back anyway?
I've previously read that Fabinho does want to play as a RB as it allows him more attacking freedom. If so, the reports of us close to signing both Matic and Fabinho makes more sense.
That'd be very good although I still feel we eill need another player to add some goals. That player was probably Griezmann so we better hope Miki and Martial step it up this season.
Yes, it's true. He said that he prefers to play fullback but if he is selected by Brazil as a CM, he'll learn to love it.
Aparently some people do want to be a Gary Neville after all. Bizarre though considering his rise at CDM, probably why more big clubs aren't in for him.
It's not weird, Fabinho is as good as a fullback as he is as a CM, he has been selected with Brazil in that position and was also selected for the Olympics but Monaco prevented him from going. Don't listen to people who tell you that he only rose as a CM, that's wrong and only based on the stupid fact that in football some positions are hyped more than others.
Nice. What kind of full back is he? is he as good going forwards as he is defensively? how is his crossing?
He is very good defensively and his technique allows him to easily participate in attack but his crossing is inconsistent in my opinion, he can have games where he crosses perfectly and other where he doesn't but he is always a good passer.
Matic and Fabinho makes sense, Fabinho at RB and filling in for Matic when he is injured or is rested. Fabinho being younger when Matic nears his end we have a ready made replacement. forward planning. I like this loads of options.
Why would he leave Monaco to be on the bench?

Looks likely to be Matic in that role. Can't see us signing Fabinho as a defender so I think this one is dead (or never on the cards to start with).
No one reliable has linked us with Matic, I think it's a smoke screen at best or more likely bullshit.

Chelsea literally paired Matic with Kante and won the league, is it that crazy that we'd play them both? Everyone assumes we'd play 433 but we could play a 4231 with attacking full backs. In that system it would make a lot of sense to play 2 defensively minded cms.
City also used to play Fernandinho and Fernando together, it's not that crazy to buy 2 dms
Bouhafsi says we are in negotiations and Di Marzio has said we've bid.
The people pushing matic are Luckhurst, Ogden, Jackson. Not the most reliable.

He'd be my first choice for the #6 role, but there are better, more-suitable fullback options around.
While that's fair enough, our 2 best CM's are Pogba and Herrera. Jose is not going to play Matic and Fabinho ahead of them.
Unless Jose Fancies Pogba to start on the wing and have a free role, that could potentially work, but it leaves us with even less pace out wide.
People seem to forget that getting both Matic AND Fabinho means one of Valencia or Herrera has to be benched. Cant see that happening given their performances under Jose so far.
