Fabinho

Please not Dier or Matic.

The caf makes Fabinho sounds perfect for us. No idea if is or isn't but we better be targeting better players than Eric Dier.

Unless Fabinho has told us he's staying at Monaco and this is another Pedro/Silva situation.

Don't understand but it seems the club are really trying to get the message out.

Don't remember us ever publically denying interest in somebody and then signing them. I'm pissed.

Just seems that we're after a Striker, Left winger and CB (already filed) this summer as there haven't really been any serious noises about a DM. I think we'll stick with what we have there as Jose (presumably) doesn't think it's a priority just now and our funds will be tied up with the other positions. Perhaps we're sticking with Fellaini as Mourinho seems to like him, or perhaps Pereira will play with Herrera and Pogba?

Both us and City have supposedly gone cold on this guy, recently. I'm wondering if there is something in his personal life that's come to light, or some other factor that is emerging.

It does seem a bit odd as he looks a very good player, and someone a lot of the top sides need.

Looks like Chelsea are buying Bakayoko. Monaco have probably decided not to sell both.

Massive mistake if we aren't in for another DM.

Herrera, Pogba are the only two good enough. Fellaini isn't, Pereira is a bit untested but promising, and Carrick legs have gone.

Which is INSANE considering how we struggled without depth in that area last year.

Can't see us NOT making a midfield signing.

Not too bothered about this as Fabinho while great defensively offers none of the offensive side of Carrick. I'd like Paredes personally. But just hope its not Dier or Matic.

I am constantly reading here that he's perfect for us, etc. If Jose doesn't want him, I'm fine with it. In fact, no one appears to be genuinely interested in him. Maybe clubs know something the average Cafe forummer doesn't.

i
Do we need another starter if the plan is to play 3 at the back with Lindelof stepping up through midfield?
I know people don't want to hear this but Jose seems to value Fellaini, maybe he sees TFM as a midfielder as well?
That would be 4/5 for two midfield positions.

I feel we must be waiting on bakayoko to be wrapped up before moving for Matic.

This. If we're not in for Fabinho then I can only think Monaco have said he's going nowhere and we've shifted our attention elsewhere. Surely there's no way we had Dier or Matic above him?

We've probably been linked to Bakayoko more than Fabinho. Seems like he's going Chelsea though.

Have we? Di Marzio said Fabinho topped our transfer list not too long ago.

Fabinho is better than both Dier and Matic. It's concerning we're seemingly not interested in players that would definitely improve us.

Exactly. Going into a season where we should be challenging for the title with just Herrera and Pogba as good enough midfielders would be a massive stroke of idiocy.
I'm angry.
*throws all the toys out of the pram*

I get the feeling we're not looking to sign a DM at all and it's going to be Herrera who continues in that role and we're looking at CMs that play ahead of him for times we move to a 4-3-3. I say this because Mourinho has given Woody a preference order and I just cannot see how he has 3 realistic names he'd prefer over Fabinho as a DM.

My theory is Jose wanted Griezmann as a ss. This must mean he was planning a two man midfield behind him which would mean Jose would have replaced Herrera with a DM if he was after Fabinho etc. I just can't see that, especially when Jose has Mara and Mkhitaryan who can play as a 10 until Antoine comes.

So we don't want a DM because you can't conceive of other defensive midfielder targets being ahead of Fabinho? Or because we have other positions being recruited before a DM?

Doesn't change anything imo, English journalists have been consistently useless when it comes to who we're signing, whenever we actually sign anyone. All of the prior reporting on them comes from other countries, more often than not, sources in the country of players' current club. But to be fair there hasn't been much in this since the beginning

We need a CM, we don't have players to play 4-3-3.

Is it though? All of the talk is 4 signings this summer. Zlatan is out to be replaced by Morata. Then add Perisic, Lindelof and a holding midfielder?

The United attack was a major weakness last season and I don't see that as an improvement at all offensively. Following the collapse of the Griezmann deal United surely must be in for another attacking/creative player. Someone like Nainggolan is a much better option now.

Going for another more attacking player may explain why Carrick got a one year extension also.
