Fabinho

Even if this isn't true, it doesn't seem likely he ends up here anyway.

So the only credible player we are after is Dier now, but priced out? Must be some under the radar
Weird isnt it? We must be in for someone because our numbers in midfield are a bit thin, but theres very little in the way of solid links at all. Unless we're shiftimg to playing a ten and two midfielders, which id have immediately discarded at the start of the window.

Till the French media or a reliable source confirms this, I'm not just gonna believe something like AS.

Also it'll be pretty stupid move from Fabinho to sacrifice 6 months of play while other top clubs want him. It doesn't make any sense.

Especially with the World Cup coming up. And while he would get a wage increase over Monaco, Athletico is not a club that is going to pay him really high wages.

If he is going there in this context, it means no other big club wants him and the stories about interest from PSG, United, etc have been made up.

In spain its not the newspaper but the journalist reporting it. I can also say this maybe a ploy to get suitors to bid just so that his move happens quickly and they can see the concrete offers from pretenders.
The journo is not the top journo of AS,
From little i know if i were to class Reporters from A(Bouhfasi,di marzio) to F(most tribal footbal, pretend journos like indykalia) i would rate him a C , so i would say this could be true but wait for better journos to confirm also no reports from french sources, which would be strange.

I said it several times, Mourinho doesn't have a type of player. His choices are entirely dependent on his current roster's needs and how he plans to use it. Just look at all his midfields since Porto, they all use different profiles.
So, it's perfectly possible that Fabinho doesn't fit the current profile and Fabinho is the ideal player that you described.

We clearly didn't want him and I'd hope have someone better lined up, only explanation.

It is weird how the big clubs have seemingly steered clear of him, really quite odd.

I am surprised we aren't in for him. We should be. We need a midfielder. I hope we aren't going to go balls out for Eric Dier.

Don't have a clue who it is, but I agree - we'll be in for someone and definitely sign a central midfielder this window.

At this stage we have no idea who we are after as we all thought we were going balls out for Morata and then BOOM! we're signing Lukaku from under Chelsea's nose. Hang fire I suspect we'll have another signing by the end of this week.

So this is the guy who is an ITK for Monaco and he says something doesnt make sense.

He says he cannot believe that united havent taken him as he wants to play there, he dreams of MUFC and united are well positioned to get him but dont make an offer? IF they offered 50 million he would already be at united. He says he doesnt really understand how mourinho would chose matic or dier above fabinho.
Says he said Monaco would sell to someone else rather than to psg and they refused higher bids of Psg.

Anybody knows for sure he's not a Mendes player anymore and how did the agent let him go? This all smells very fishy…

He's not really the DM we needed anyway. He never played in a 433, why is everyone convinced he's the perfect player for us?
Because we don't play 4-3-3 half of the times?

Thanks for summarising.

I agree with the guy that if we wanted him, he'd already be here. But it seems the Manager, who has managed him previously, isn't that keen. That's the end of the story really. What the player dreams of is irrelevant.

And "Morata to Utd in 72 hours" for about 3 weeks.

AS are the Spanish Express.
But how are they to blame if United pulled the plug on the deal? Weren't they reporting we were negotiating and close to finishing the deal? Or are they only right if the deals are finished?

Fourfourtwo had an article about agents and Fabinho was listed among Kick and Rush clients. And agents don't let go players, they are employees.

It isn't, really. Players have leverage, if they state their intentions. For instance, Inter are now waiting to see if Perišić says clearly he wants out. And so are we.

Mourinho just doesn't want him. Don't know what is so hard to grasp. He obviously has other targets but by the sounds of it they are Matic and Dier, but I'm sure out scout report has a good reason why he is not above the others.

I wonder if Mourinho does want to play Herrera as the "anchor" of the midfield and bring a more advanced midfielder I the mound of a Nianggolan (sp).

The same Fourfourtwo who listed Mendes as the most powerful man in world football, in an article about agents? The guy gets him from Brasil almost a kid, puts him in Portuguese club controlled by him, then in Real Madrid where Mourinho protects him, then in Monaco where at a point half the team was his, and then lets him go? Funny that thing about employees, apparently true, but then… you don't know half the story.

You can't sign every player that dreams of playing for United.

But if he doesn't suit our formation in half of our games what's the point in getting him? Why don't we get someone who suits the role in both formations?
I think he would suit both, that's not the point, for me. Although, perhaps a more powerful attacking #8 would make more sense in a midfield three with him.

True, but to a club that he presumably knows want him. It becomes irrelevant if the club you state you want to play for don't actually want you.

I doubt the AS report is true, Atletico's record fee is 40m for Falcao, a goalscoring machine. Breaking that for a midfielder/fullback seems unlikely.

The problem with the article and the Move is,
  • would fabinho be willing to not play for 6 months in a world cup year when he has to play to get in the squad?
  • Also Atleti dont have the money to do such a deal, specially if they are going for costa who will cost the same amount.
  • Mendes has many contacts in Madrid and he could conviniently have put a story out to get clubs interested a push to make the deal finalized
Anyways looks like they have retracted their claims already

Or is this like lukaku to united story where they had to retract the story?

I genuinely wouldn't mind Dendoncker. He was brilliant against us. But I feel he is too young and inexperienced for a Mourinho team.

He's a year younger than Fabinho (22 vs 23). He may replace Fabinho at Monaco and re-join Tielemans, or go to Everton since they are frontrunners for his services; he's a brilliant CDM who I wouldn't mind taking a look at.

Their facebook is focused on their players and they specifically congratulated Fabinho for the title. I suspect that fourfourtwo and Transfermarkt are right.

I don't doubt Atletico could be interested in him since he would fit Simeone's side perfectly and Gabi just turned 34, but not for 45m. Their transfer record was 40m for a goalscoring machine in Falcao, they won't break it for a midfielder/fullback who's not particularly marketable/big name unless there's some creative accounting involved.

They spent the same amount on Gameiro.
