Fabinho

Signing Lukaku from under Chelsea's nose will surely wind them up enough to forbid the sale of Matić to us.

This chain of events might lead us directly to Fabinho's door.

Maybe we planned this all along? Chelsea waited for us to conclude Matic so they could buy Bakayoko. We take Fabinho so Monaco don't need to sell to Chelsea and then we buy Lukaku with Chelsea not having the free money to go for him.

Machiavellian genius if so!

If we move quickly for Fabinho we could feck up Bakayoko to Chelsea as well.

Would make it extra sweet.

Fabinho's news has gone pretty quiet recently. Prior to the Lukaku explosion, the news on Lukaku was quiet.

I hope this is a mirror of the Lukaku situation. Using Matic as a distraction to keep them interested whilst we knick Lukaku from underneath them and end up going for Fabinho, leaving them strikerless (for now) and no money for Matic.

We let Fabinho go to PSG, Chelsea fail to sign Bakayoko and we fail to land Matic.
What a clusterfeck that would be.
Or we smoke screen the shit out of the place and get Weigl

People are getting carried away with smoke screens and deception tactics, it's not a game of poker it's real business, we really need a DM and regardless of who wants who, the market is small, Fabinho fits the bill and seems available, so does Matic, I believe we will sign one of them and the consequences don't bother me.
Signing Fabinho seems the better option, signing Matic is dependant on Chelsea getting a replacement and their reaction to us signing Lukaku, churlish as it is Chelsea will be conscious that we strengthen to the point we are a serious threat to their supremacy, I hope they see selling us Matic is not a good move and we sign Fabinho

Football transfer business is all about deception tactics and playing one club against the other in order to get the best deal. Even more so in a small market with sought-after players.

The straight forward transfers are, in my opinion, only for 3 scenarios: 1. medium club going for medium player, 2. big club going for medium player, 3. small club going for small player

When you have the case of big club(s) going for big player, things get murky. The media play a strong part in sending off trails, and I feel there is a fair amount of deception and sneakiness to it all. I don't mind it being like this because, as evidenced over the past 24 hours, we're not bad at it.

Im starting to see lots of theories of why Fabinho might be on due to this circumstance or that new development in our signing others. A lot of it very plausible too it must be said.

But there is nothing to add to the initial whisper and im hoping for a lukaku moment, one second there is nothing then there is a 75M blindside(€50M in this case). But with Jose wanting the guys on the plane this weekend. Its looking more off than on right now. But thats is still 50/50 in numbers.

We need some information pleasssssssssssssssssssssse

I just dont think this is happening. I think its more realistic that we are in for Matic and Dier unfortunately

They'll both be much more expensive than Fabinho. Neither Chelsea or Spurs want to sell to United.

I may be naive, but I can't see huge financial institutions (football clubs) playing mind games, I truly believe we take a business like approach to transfers, albeit with a managers desire for player xy&z.
Lukaku is a great signing on and off the field, it did'nt come up as a conversation while senior people met for a coffee, it's a business decision, BIG business, these transfers are not done just to spite a rival.

Strangely, I see the opposite. I can see huge financial juggernauts playing a metaphorical game of chess to sign players. Occasionally it may not be the case and its bish bosh bash and done (e.g. City at the start of the window).

The reason I think deception is prevalent is this Lukaku deal (if it goes through). Nobody saw this plausible until 24 hrs ago when reports came flooding in and now it looks like we've nabbed him when Chelsea looked set the whole window. At the same time, Matic chat has completely died down. They may be unrelated, but I can't help but think there's always a secret gameplan when certain things are 'leaked'. Why wasn't gazumping Chelsea to Lukaku leaked? As you say, this has been planned for some time. Just seems odd.

It's an interesting world that I'd like to know more about.

We got our striker, we've bought a defender...now we need a DM...sign this kid up Woodward..put that fanny pack to good use!

We are in need of a winger more than a defensive midfielder, in my opinion.

How many wingers do we have that are good enough?

Depends how you view Martial and Mkhitaryan, if they perform to their potential they offer good threat from wide, just neither have shown any consistency under Mourinho. Regardless though it doesn't alter the fact we are threadbare in midfield as well, take Herrera or Pogba out and we are fecked.

Either we have already finalised the terms with Monaco as well as Fabinho or we are not interested in him at all. Regardless of all this,No matter who, we need to sign a DM.

I work for a larger (in terms of $) company, and all we do are mind games.

Fair shout, I've never worked in finance so maybe cold hard cash has a different value to me, my original point was that we surely have't spent the thick end of £100m just to 'spite' Chelsea, he must have already been on our wish list, if that's how football (we) do our business then I spect us to be buying Sanchez to spite City, Kieta to spite Liverpool, MBappé to spite PSG etc etc

Who cares -- we need to start acting like the biggest club in the world and feck royally RM for a change.
No need to be greedy. I very much doubt we'll sign Fabinho, seems like no one has a clue what we're up to for the midfield position

No of course not. We only buy him if he's wanted. But the method of buying him, the subterfuge, leaks, rival bids, trying to get Chelsea to waste weeks chasing a lost cause etc.... I'm certain we do that.

I'm convinced he's going to be signing for us. Woodward is playing some 4D chess this season - we're fecking Chelsea up by messing up their Bakayoko deal because they think we'll take Matic off their hands.

Stunning lack of interest in this guy from the top clubs, a lot of clubs could do with him.

Perhaps the scouts are seeing something us armchair critics don't.

Everyone was convinced Kryschowiak would be the dogs bollocks for PSG when they signed him as well and was pissed their teams wasn't in for him, and he turned out shite.

I believe he's already agreed a deal with someone. Perhaps not United, but it will probably announced in a few days out of nowhere, similar to the Lukaku deal. Likely going to Inter or Juve i'd imagine.
