Fabiano Ready To Move On

Cocks out!

Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | News | Fabiano wants United move

"I have made it clear that I will not be signing a new contract with Sevilla and at 29 I now need to join a club where I can start challenging for the highest honours from the first season.

"I have heard Tottenham Hotspur made an inquiry about me but, with all respect, that is not somewhere I am going to be able to win the Premier League or the European Cup in the next three or four years.
Giant

"There would be no point in me joining Tottenham. I might as well stay at Sevilla, as it's the same thing. Sevilla are actually bigger when you look at how much we have been in the European Cup, so there would be no point me moving to a smaller team.

"The choice will come down to Manchester United and AC Milan. That is the sort of team I want to be signing for, one of the true giants of Europe.

"I think the way Manchester United play football is very attractive, I must be honest and say Premier League football attracts me and also the way Manchester United play football attracts me.

"You think about being Wayne Rooney's strike partner and that is very attractive for any striker.

"I think the style of Premier League football suits me and I think I could score goals and be very successful there.

"Their coach is a winner, their players are winners and they are one of the few teams in Europe challenging for the top honours season after season.

"As soon as the World Cup is over I will make a quick decision on my future - and while it is going on I hope Sevilla can open discussions. I have enjoyed my time here but I now need to be at a giant."

Now, that's a proper "come and get me plea" if I ever saw one ! Fergie, sign him up

Scores goals. We'd be in a strong position to get him for a good price

It's nice to have a player enthusiastic about joining us for once, unfortunately I think he's to old to spend proper money on.

We spent 3.5m on teddy when he was 31. At 29, with a year to run and a player keen to move, it puts us in a very strong negotiating position should we want him. I don't think much over 7 million is impossible.

10-12 million for a guy who'd give us 3 years is fine.

but your only 32/33 in 3 years...players do look after themselves. You could get him for much longer. I mean look at Teddy, who we signed when he was 31. He was brilliant at 33 and he probably left too soon. you never know but the thing with Fabiano is he will score goals. I don't think it'd cost that much either since you have a player determined to leave, a player who wants to join a specific club - it's really if we're interested

would be an option that didn't prevent the progress of macheda et al i suppose...
If we signed him we'd have to sell Berba, there's no point having 8 strikers in the squad when we play with one up top a lot of the time.

sell Berba + buy Fabiano= Value

The figures I'd heard banded around were in the region of 20 mil, I think that would be a bridge too far but around the ten million mark might be decent business.

Between only a year being left on his current contract and him wanting to join us, surely Sevilla wouldn't ask for £20M?

They might ask for it, especially if he has a good WC but I can't believe a sensible club would go that far. Although they might get it from some nouveau riche idiots like City.

Don't forget though, it's up to the player. If he has a good world cup, it don't make that much difference as he only has a year left on his contract and has stated he won't sign so they have to make a decison - Free transfer or take what you can get? City or whoever can offer what they like but if the player isn't interested it forces his club to accept a lower offer

Yes and to be fair to the lad he's made it clear he wants to win things and play for a prestigeous club.

Fabiano is a good striker, but I'm not convinced it is a smart move to sign him.

I'm struggling to think of a point where Rooney has shown he can reach his potential as a forward while playing with someone - the best we have seen of Rooney has been when he has played up top on his own.

If we are looking to sign people to support rooney - we need (imo) to be looking at players in the mold of Scholes of old - an attacking midfielder that would attack (properly) from deep and play almost as a second striker at times (like Gerrard does for Liverpool).

I do think we need to support Rooney better than we have been over the last season, but I don't think a striker and a move to 442 is the way to go - especially as I do not feel we have the midfielders capable of supporting a 442 in the big games. Fletcher is the only midfielder I would trust - the rest are unreliable for various reasons - and that just isn't good enough if we want to go 442.

What if Rooney got injured? We have some good options coming through. I'm not sure Rooneys had a partner playing the same space as him. Usually he dropped deep etc, which he still does now and then

We have a fair few options and I guess really it depends on where Sir Alex sees him. Diouf, Kiko, Hernandez etc who plays on the last man. Will be interesting to see if we play Rooney and Hernandez

I see your point but the thinking might be, what if Rooney got injured or could he match up with him like Saha did?

Saha?

Season before last he couldn't paly on his own up front. Now he can't play with a support striker.

Of course this is true but by acknowledging that point you have to accept that a key reason why Berbatov and Rooney have failed to shine together is that we're lacking the central midfield to support them in a 442. I think most strikers would tell you they prefer to play up front in a two, the advantages to them (someone else to hold up the ball, occupy markers and combine with etc) mean that I feel we could see the best of Rooney in a 442. I suppose this is a point for another forum because in terms of Fabiano I agree that I don't see him as an ideal partner, honestly I'd rather we stuck with Berbatov.

Yea im like most guys here. He's a very good striker but could he partner rooney?? But i don'think you can have too many quality players and he is one.

Also it comes down to price. Maximum, absolute maximum i'd pay for him is £15m. Especially as he's in final year of contract. But we will have a lot of strikers...rooney, berba, hernandez, diouf, kiko, owen.

I would class welbeck in that catergory but he will be going out on loan for sure!

i don't see where he would fit in....

hernandez has looked clever when he's played, owen will be fit, berbatov will stay i think, we've got welbeck, macheda and diouf there (although 1 or 2 may go on loan)

i know we bought teddy when he was 31 but he was a player who didn't rely on pace - I'm not sure about Fabiano - its clear he is a guy who will score goals but given his age and his price tag i think this wouldn't be great business

Have seen him play live for Sao Paolo.

Nice player I'd rather stick with Berbatov thanks

12 goal dimitar? :p Unless the others are ready to step up, 12 goals after Rooney isn't what we need from a striker. We need berbatov to become that 20+ striker he was at spurs

Only 2/5 of the time..

We were linked with him in 2004 or 2005 when he was still at Sao Paulo, rumours had it that he traveled to Manchester and was shown training facilities and the city but Ferguson opted against signing him in the end so he went to Porto. He would've probably cost half the price then, whether he'd actually prove useful with no European experience is a different matter though.
