F1 2024 Season

Bet it's the sponsorship money. They will lose a chunk of prize money by finishing 3rd in constructors.

It's actually genius by Perez, drive so shit that RB have to keep me to make up for the prize money they have lost.
  :o

It all makes sense now. He purposely crashed out of the race this weekend bc he realized he was about to get some pts.

if he doesn’t go, i’m going to give up watching next season. the last few years have been tough with the shift to entertainment over integrity. allowing it to become so obviously a middle-eastern play thing would be a step too far.

The car manufacturers need to breakaway with their own series if this happens. It's pure corruption. It's bad enough that we get utterly awful tracks added to the calendar because the higher ups get backhanders ala FIFA

The sport is being ruined. MBS is a utter disaster and needs to go. Who would have thought that Bernie and Max were the leaders the sport needed?

Problem is trying to convince a Ferrari to do the same given their special status in F1. Or at least I presume they are still receiving their heritage bonus. Wouldn't mind seeing another blowup between the teams and F1 to put pressure on the organization but so far it seems like it's mostly drivers willing to lob criticism.

If FOM did breakaway from the FIA surely it would void loads of sponsorship and track contracts?

Also, no more Formula 1, but if the teams moved across the name wouldn't matter.

Takes me back to the regular talk of a breakaway F1 series 15-25 years ago, seemed very close to happening at one point. These days there's so much influence and money that it would have to get really bad for the teams and drivers to walk away.

Wouldn't it depend on the commercial rights holder to F1 (Liberty Media) being in agreeance with the breakaway for it to be worthwhile? I'm not sure what prestige a new championship would realistically hold without the name. Add on top of that I'm sure there'll be a multitude of clauses within the track contracts that will protect them.

The FIA as far as I'm aware is just the governing body, and much like in the Max Moseley FIA era I'm sure it's just a play by them to wiggle more power within the F1 gravy train.

It's not quite that simple. The FIA hold the sporting rights to F1 and Liberty Media the commercial rights. The FIA hold the rights to the name for example.

Ahh fair enough! I thought it was the other way around like in BTCC where the naming rights are with the owners of the series regardless of the FIA being heavily involved in the 90's.

The concorde agreement, well latest one was signed in 2021 and is due to expire at end of next season. It's a collective negotiation with all the team principals attending as a single bloc. If you ever wanted to bend the FIA over the table with their trousers down, renegotiation of of the agreement is the time.

One item I think will definitely be on the table is the number of races per season.

Ideally they would make the sprints reverse championship standings to make them more interesting and do away with a qually session that isn't really needed. But will never happen.

If anyone isn't aware of what it is...

"The Concorde Agreement is a contract between the FIA, the Formula One teams and the Formula One Group which dictates the terms by which the teams compete in races, and how the television revenues and prize money is shared"
