F1 2024 Season

Hulkenberg for Williams and Magnussen in the Hass took pole in similar conditions to what we have now. Some of the smaller teams must be relishing this.

Yep. Id send them out. Remember some awful qually conditions in spa and Malaysia, when we got shock pole positions due to the rain.

Now would they have gone out on that track as it is currently in the 90s?
730pm uk time now if they run.

They really need to sort the tyres/cars so we can see wet racing/qualifying, it is what makes for the most exciting results as you often end up with a grid that's all over the place, and you get to truly admire the skill of the drivers

I know there was what happened with Jules, which was a tragic, freak accident, but perhaps to negate anything like that happening they implement a rule if any recovery vehicles need to enter the track, it's red flagged and it can't enter until everything is stationary

Also feel bad for the fans who have paid money and stayed there despite the weather and probably won't even get any sort of refund. Like that absolute FARCE in Belgium a few years back where the fans got 2 laps behind the SC

Maybe I have selective memory but I don't remember any qualifying being cancelled/postponed because of rain in the 90s
That said, they didn’t have a full wet tyre like Pirelli. The full wet is a large contributor why we have moments like this where it doesn’t shift the water terribly well. Spray is another challenge.

Why not use the sprint qualifying grid? Closest thing to a proper qualifying session

Obviously want to see the normal qualifying but I don't think we are getting it

This lad is laying it on a bit thick. Yes there is still a lot of standing water and too wet for F1 cars, but he's claiming he's going to show us a river of water over by the hoarding, they zoom in and there's no water flowing at all.

The Qualifying for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix is postponed.

"The decision was taken due to the lack of visibility caused by the level of rain we have experienced in the past few hours. There is a lot of standing water on parts of the circuit which renders conditions unsafe.

"As much as we would all like to see competition on track, the safety of drivers, team members, volunteers, officials and spectators is our main priority.

"A decision on a start time for Qualifying tomorrow morning will be taken as soon as possible."

Remember, the Grand Prix itself is scheduled for 5pm UK time tomorrow, so qualifying will run - weather permitting

No precedent for it and it's not in the rules, so I doubt it. They'd need agreement of all teams.
Fairly sure they had an F2 grid recently decided based on free practice timings. Strange the rules aren't there for F1

Anyways I think they will have a qualy session tomorrow

I know it sucks but I'd rather they cancel than let them race now. People still die motor racing and it just isn't worth it if you can avoid it.

Has a race ever been cancelled due to rain or held on a Monday ?
didn’t they have to cancel silverstone 2021 because of all the crying red bull did when lewis didn’t cede to a max divebomb?

There was however some dissatisfaction at the decision not to run qualifying in the rain. “This is ridiculous, we should go out,” Lewis Hamilton said to F1’s CEO, Stefano Domenicali. “I want to go out. If you give us better wet tyres with blankets we would be able to run in this.”

Domenicali insisted it was not suitable to take to the track. “We cannot control the weather,” he said. “It is a pity but the conditions are not safe to drive, and there is a problem with light, too.”

I'm glad they solved swearing though.

If it looks like they can't race I hope they don't do the procession bs again and just call it a nil pt event.

Or only give pts to drivers with balls.
They should do 3 laps and give full points this time.

Qualifying to start at 10.30am on Sunday, with race start moved earlier to 3.30pm amid threat of rain.
At last somebody with some forward thinking bringing forward the race time.
Sky qually show starts at 8am according to sky TV.

Can't find anything for start time on BBC or F1 site.
