F1 2024 Season

Why did these cars go on the mediums at the start of the session? Leclerc was in danger too at the end

You say that but Norris and maybe Sainz would have both made Q2 with their first medium laps, I think.
Yeah but in a field so tight it really piles on the pressure towards the end of the session

If Perez didn't bring in so much money I think he wouldn't have lasted this season let alone get a new contract, they've binned drivers for far less, let's not forget he was toiling this race last year

and thats why he will stay.
Why else did they give him the 2 year extension, he was driving shit when he signed it.
Yes they could end it , just sack him and pay him off, but I dont think they will, but you are correct divers have been sacked for less.

Do you not know what break clauses are?

The only reason his execution was stayed after the summer break is that the Red Bull top brass dont rate Yuki, and Ricciardo was performing even worse than Yuki.

He obviously wont meet the min requirements for the break clauses at the end of the season, the only question is if they swap drivers or sack him if they get Colapinto.
We shall see. I dont see him going anywhere next season.

Norris should be happy with that, P3 here is probably the best starting spot with such a long run to turn 1

Sainz has been mega. Have to appreciate Verstappen too for getting P2 and outqualifying Norris

Rules of engagement for racing to be changed soon.

FIA to revise guidelines after drivers' meeting

"..The majority of drivers feel Verstappen exploited in the move a loophole in the rules that govern defending from a car trying to overtake on the outside in a way that goes against racing ethics.."

In the incident in Austin, Norris was trying to overtake Verstappen around the outside at Turn 12, a tight left-hander at the end of a long straight.

"..Norris was a full car’s length ahead before they braked, but Verstappen braked later, before running off the track on the exit, with Norris outside him also running off track.

Norris overtook Verstappen while both were in the run-off area, and was given a five-second penalty for gaining an advantage by going off track.

A number of drivers felt that Verstappen should have been penalised for forcing a rival off track.."

"..Many drivers feel the rule needs to be changed to add a caveat that if the driver defending his position also ends up going off track, he should face some form of penalty..."

In the meeting, Verstappen said that if the rule was changed, he would drive to the new meaning of the regulations.

On Thursday the world champion tacitly admitted that he had been driving to the letter of the regulations.

"It’s how the rules are written," Verstappen said. "I don’t make the rules. I just follow the rules as much as I can. I just implement the rules and play with them."

It’s fair I think. What Max did was definitely against the spirit of fair racing but, ultimately, he was driving to the rules. They need changing.

Think Verstappen hasn't done any long runs because of the engine issues? Probably will affect them in the race, Norris needs to make it to P1 by end of lap 1 and hope the Red Bull struggles

I think Verstappen would agree as well, he's always been in favour of more proper racing. But while the rules are like this, he's obviously going to make use of them as they are.

Which is exactly what you’d expect him or any other F1 driver to do. They’re competitive and want to win, that’s what you’d expect.
