F1 2024 Season

Franco Colapinto's backers are reportedly paying Williams $4.5 million—equivalent to $500,000 per race—for the Argentine rookie to immediately replace Logan Sargeant.

Red Bull is said to have declined the offer to place Liam Lawson in the seat, while Argentine newspaper La Nacion reports that Williams did not even engage in discussions with Mick Schumacher's camp. Mick's uncle, Ralf Schumacher, has criticized Williams' decision.

“You can perhaps respect this decision because Colapinto is a driver from Williams’ junior program,” Ralf Schumacher told DPA news agency. “But I think it is absurd and makes no sense from a performance perspective.

“I think the risk for the racing team and also the driver is much, much higher than if they had put someone with experience like Mick in,” he added.

Regarding the reported millions that Williams will receive from Colapinto’s financiers, Ralf Schumacher insists that "no amount in the world" can justify a decision based on anything other than driver performance.

“You also have to be fair and admit that it simply took Mick too long in his second season at Haas to find his feet and get his teammate under control,” Ralf added. “Formula 1 is unforgiving.”

Reports indicate that Franco Colapinto's funding is being provided by the Argentine Automobile Club, along with sponsors such as Mercado Libre, Globant, Quilmes, YPF, and others.

“Once again, Argentina is showing that it can compete with the best,” said Globant co-founder Guibert Englebienne. “We already knew it, now the world will know – Franco Colapinto, you’re a genius.”

Turns out it wasn't the car, it was Newey.

Quite a few people claim that they developed the car in a way he said they should not, just seems like it's a nightmare to set up basically. I love it, would be funny if someone else won the title.
Alot of pressure in balbao and wiesch for next season's car. If it's a turkey, they both maybe out of a job.

I think RedBull are in the same situation as Mercedes in 22/23. They have a car that can be very quick on some circuits, but it's operating window is extremely narrow (to get the tyres in the correct range) and temperature changes plus wind changes affect the said window..

They've designed themselves into a box they can't easily get out of.

Maybe we will see them revert to the 23 car concept for 25 season.

They know what they're getting with Mick Schumacher though and it's not very good.

It would just be replacing one crash prone driver with another

Wonder if Mick would get quite the same level of promotion (e.g. Mercedes reserve etc) if it wasn't for the Schumacher name

Imagine if Perez and Max take each other out into the first corner

Hope Lando actually gets off the line, Oscar hasn't been amazing either so is it a McLaren thing but surely they all start the same?

Looks a great race to attend with the Tifosi etc

WTF are these trophies?

Wonder if Piastri into the first corner will start McLaren dishing out some team orders in the first few laps...

The brilliant, unique, unsurpassed technical artist journalist Giorgio Piola is celebrating his 900th Grand Prix (although he says it may actually be three or four more). First race Monaco 1969, aged 19. And he’s been presented with a special pass by the FIA. Legend.

McLaren won't be happy with that, fight but don't lose places for your teammate.

norris clever enough not to ruin his own race, must think he can catch max, otherwise he should have just taken piastri out to make a point.

Sergio crying that George has a lot of damage.

Well if he has a lot of damage and you're unable to overtake him Sergio, how bad a driver must you be?
