F1 2023 Season

AMuS reports that for singapore, along with TD018 coming into effect, they will also revise TD039 (first introduced 2022 summer) with greater clampdown on flexible plank exploitation.

From what I read in various articles, Redbull and Mercedes might be most effected by this.
Sigh. Why cant they just leave the cars as they are and give the field a chance to catch up to RedBull.

Ferrari, Mercedes, Mclaren etc have all said leave the rules as they are and we can try to close the gap. All these TDs do is slow down teams other than RB.

Sprint races as they are now aren't different enough to the main race. No pit stops. 20 laps. Reverse grids. GO.

Old vs new layout, Marina Bay Circuit. Its only for construction, will return to old layout in 2026.

Bernie says Massa only in it for the money.

https://www.planetf1.com/news/bernie-ecclestone-felipe-massa-lewis-hamilton-abu-dhabi/

Bernie Ecclestone lashes out at Massa case: ‘Hamilton could have sued after Abu Dhabi’

Also hes quoted as saying

“Lawsuits against the FIA could have been filed by Hamilton with Mercedes after the not very clean 2021 finale in Abu Dhabi.”
Shocker. Bernie trying to deflect the attention away from his own failings. Once a tool, always a tool.

I see that was hastily brushed under the carpet and Perez came out with an “it’s ok because we have a personal relationship” excuse. Any other sport/business there’d be an investigation into this.

Not saying I disagree with you entirely, but I will say from direct experience that there is a *ton* of stuff that is swept under the rug in business. Like, a lot a lot. And yes, a lot of it is because of power dynamics and money. At least in F1 - the public facing component of it - that is a lot harder to hide with the amount of media exposure it has.

I agree, too much is swept under the rug, but it's current in my mind at the minute with all the scandal in other sports getting huge airtiume, including that around United.

He's an old duffer, who cares. We spend far too much time worrying about nothing these days.

Formula 1 is a brand, one with a poor public appearance for a variety of reasons, last thing it needs are more from one of the main players. Aside from the fact his prejudices are bad enough as a stand-alone issue. I’d say a lot of people care, or should care. A racist, environmentally dubious sport isn’t going to win many fans in the modern environment.

It’s not like a multi-billionaire doesn’t know how to sell themselves either, or have publicity related employees, old duffer or not. There are no excuses. My father is in his eighties, from the working class north east of England, he manages to go around without saying racist things.

Not saying your father does do it, but dont discount the "that you know of" component.

I do think a sense of measure is sometimes lost. Yes people shouldn't say these things and if they do, they need to stop doing it. But I also think a lot of people are obtuse when they say that they know other "old people" who don't do it. They may not do it to you, but they may do it in other settings. The ones they think they are comfortable in.

Case in point: my FiL will never make much of a racist comment (or sexist for that matter) around us. But one time he asked me to clean up his phone and PC and holy cow the amount of vile hatred for other human beings I saw spewed in messages etc was so excessive, despite me being aware of his political leanings which may have hinted at something.

In other words: just because someone doesn't say them out loud, it doesn't mean they never say it or think it (the Borat and Trump effect..they just need to feel like they re in a safe space to blurt it out). I guess the point of me saying all this is that I also think we all say inappropriate things. We all have our prejudices. To say someone doesn't, is to deny being human IMHO.

Again, not meant to attack your father or you personally. I just don't believe people exist who never make discriminatory comments about anything or anyone.

I missed this post and just saw a different video comparision. The old layout is better, more technical and tricky. Losing the slow left handed under the overpass in S3 is a shame.

No wonder the drivers want another DRS zone added now.

My point was more that my father, if he thinks such thoughts, says them in front of nobody and he’s in his eighties. Certainly not in public. I’d imagine many people in their pension years have less than PC thoughts, but again how many would voice them publicly, especially in the arena in which he did.

The new track is only till 2026 till completion of construction work.

Thats good to know. The old layout is relentless when you play it in the F1 game, one of my favourite tracks. So it will be abit easier till 2026 for the drivers. Issue is that, if the new layout leads to more overtaking, they wont go back.

I love the media narrative of trying to rekindle a rivalry because the season is a massive damp squib.

From autosport

Some drivers were asking questions on why a 4th DRS zone is not applied to the newly modified straight in the Marina Bay Street Circuit

FIA stated they received no clear consensus on this matter from teams after contacting them several weeks ago asking for feedbacks

That's kind of Singapore lite track this year, not feeling as hard to manage anymore.

Predictions will be interesting for this weekend. Some are predicting even Alonso as 2nd, but I think McLarens will spring a surprise here.

Seriously?

Absolutely. Are people genuinely suggesting this is a big deal?! You're all living in cuckoo land I'm afraid.

Old man says old fashioned opinion shock.

The older we get, the faster time passes, the faster younger views and opinions change and the more out of touch we become. It'll happen to you, it'll happen to me, it'll happen to all of us. I actually think the lack of tolerance regarding age is a bit of an issue too.

People say that Marko is just an old duffer and that it doesn't matter, but what we are hearing is probably just the tip of the iceberg.

If someone like Perez, who is white, has had to cop racism, what kind of racism has Lewis Hamilton had to come up against throughout his career?

The sense of denial that people have about racism is what effectively perpetuates it.
