He’s brilliant, nobody is doubting that and when he’s given a yardstick of actual quality I’m fairly certain he will still be dominating his team mate. But Perez has underperformed massively as soon as upgrades moved away from his style and he performs at about one in three circuits, he’s nowhere near the level required but he deserved his shot, he’s had it, didn’t perform.
feck the sprint. Terrible idea. Ruining the most perfect weekend in sports.
To be fair, both things are true. Max is a generational talent and one of the best, while Perez is a decent driver and no more. He's not as terrible as made out by some, but he's just...good. He's had a good career in F1, but he's simply nowhere near the elite. And he happens to be in a team that has an elite driver, and he's being shown up big time. As Max has proved, its all well and good having the best car, but you still need the best to driver to realise its full potential.

Between not racing due to the rain, sausage kerbs, and penalties for “racing”, a thing of the distant past.
Perez, despite seemingly phoning it in now he knows he's a goner next season, is comfortably 2nd in the championship.
Max is dominant because he's miles better than Checo, and the car is miles better than everyone else's.
Also the car is entirely designed around Max’s driving style which is very different from Perez’s.
However the car is an absolute rocket ship. It was running a lower downforce trim in the wet and pulled one and a half seconds on Piastri (in the second fastest car right now) in about half a lap.
Put all the drivers in the RB and I think Max would be fastest right now, but it would be so much closer for most than with Perez.
Max’s main weakness is his volatility under pressure, so having a terrible team mate and the best car by far means he’s basically a perfect driver. Until RB are getting seriously challenged in the constructors, they won’t bin Perez.
Everyone is saying Perez is terrible now but 2 years ago he was doing brilliantly. Gasly was brilliant today but looked awful at RB. Albon has been good at Williams and was destroyed at RB.

RB set up their car around Max, who uses a very pointy front end which most drivers can’t deal with.
But you’re ignoring the fact that Perez is 33. It’s natural that he’s getting worse, especially in such an aggressive car.

Yeah, of course. Put Leclerc, Hamilton, Alonso, maybe a few others and it would obviously be much closer. Goes without saying, really. But over the course of the season Max would still come out on top, IMO. He wouldn't win as many individual races, though. Don't agree with the volatility under pressure part, really. He can whinge over the radio, sure. And in his younger days he was a loose cannon. But now, when push comes to shove, he almost always delivers when there's pressure. Yes, not this season, becuase there hasn't been any. But even this season when he needed to do it in Quali now and then, he pulls it out of the bag.

Theyre both getting on now but at the peak of their careers Alonso and Hamilton would have both gotten the better of him in the same team. Especially Hamilton.
Fantastic real F1 racing. Ok, pushing drivers off the track is abit too far but that sort of racing would never be allowed now a days. Shades of hamilton/verstappen 2021.
I do hope that Hamilton is able to continue to race at a very high level and not tarnish his reputation.
This is whats so confusing. Before the 2022 rule changes, the RB was very snappy which is why albon, gasly and perez struggled. Now its pretty much the most perfectly balanced car on the grid. Perez was always a master at ecking out a stint and looking after his rears. That seems to gone away from him 2022 onwards. Im not sure why that is. The RBs anti dive design at the front means the fronts take a few laps to get up to speed. But the anti lift rear design should mean plenty of traction from the rear tyres. You'd think that would suit perez.
The pointiness can be dialled out to a degree with setup. Im just wondering if hes overdriving the car and try to replicate the traces of verstappen and simply cant do it. Its not new, bottas couldnt replicate the braking of hamilton and the speed he carried into a corner. Its why theres normally a offset over the course of a season of 0.1-0.3 between the elite drivers and their teammates.
Perez looks bereft of confidence, is not relaxed in the car, hence overdriving it and i think he knows unoffically hes being binned for next season. Hes not even driving at 50% of verstappens capability, because if he was he'd be 2nd in the results on most GP days.
Must be so frustrating for RB to have a rocket ship of a car, and utter ineptitude of perez in bringing it home.
Give him a car as fast as the RB and it will be box office viewing again between him and verstappen.
