F1 2023 Season

Yeah no one in this thread would know, but Ferrari won Le Mans and Nurburgring 24h this year. No easy feat. They have talent in that company somewhere.

F1 will turn into a cash cow for them and merc (well it's already happened). Not the place to showcase or test things for actual cars. They'll do that in proper series.
It was posted on this thread about their leMans win.

Also lots of F1 tech ends up in road cars and has done for along time now. Sams as tech from WEC ends up in road cars.

That may have been the case. But the transition to electric vehicles is changing that.

In the performance and enthusiast world nobody really gives a feck about electric other than as a way to enhance performance and flatten torque curves, which is exactly how it's used in F1 and WEC.

Didn't realise Piastri didn't have some of the upgrades that Norris had this weekend. If he was in a similar car, I'm pretty confident he could have pushed Max closer than Norris during the race this weekend. Makes his 4th place all the more impressive.

Yeh, he's looking like a real talent. Time and luck with cars will tell if he's hamilton/verstappen level talent.

Hopefully Mclaren can be really competative for rest of season and lando and piastri are allowed to race each other.

It was good to see Norris take Max and at least hold his own untill DRS was enabled, the RB with that DRS is just so fast.
I had not taken any real notice of Piastri, but he looks good and was unlucky with the SC.
With all the upgrades I can see him doing even better.
Of all the teams to get close the Red Bill was not expecting it to be McLaren.

Apparently Nyck de Vries has been sacked with immediate effect, with Daniel taking his drive from Hungary onwards.
Nothing official yet but a few places are reporting it.
Harsh, but understandable. His race pace and management has been woeful compared to Yuki Tsunoda.

Somehow that’s good news for Perez, isn’t it? I was thinking RB might pull the trigger on replacing him with Ricciardo over the summer.

Maybe. Or they give Ricciardo the rest of the season to prove himself in the AlphaTauri and if that goes well he'll then replace Perez in the RB next season.

Not surprised at the Alpha Tauri changes considering their past history of this. It's harsh on De Vries, but there's been harsher replacements in the past.

Not really, as riccardo is auditioning for the 2nd RB seat. Pull off some impressive drives in the AT and blow Tsunoda out of the water. Then it will be a sure thing he will be in a RB next season.

At least it pretty much ensures that they give Perez the rest of the season to prove himself, right?

Also, won't it be tough for Ricciardo to prove himself in the AlphaTauri? The car isn't good, and Tsunoda has a lot more experience with it.

I dont think they would get rid of perez till WDC and Constructors is sown up. Besides whos available mid-season?

Riccardo maybe in a shit car but as long as he out qualifies and out scores Tsunoda then thats a positive. Besides he might raise the benchmark for that car. Theres a theory that last years AM wasnt as bad as it was made out to be, because a) stroll is a average driver and b) vettel wasnt motivated/past his peak. Therefore they didntnt really have a benchmark for the car. Now they do in alonso. Riccardo could have a similar affect on alpha tauri and the car isnt as bad as tsunoda and de vries are making it out to be.

Besides, riccardo just being on the grid adds pressure to perez. Now if perez has to pass him on track during one of his recovery drives......

That’s brutal. I imagine they’ve brought Ricciardo in just to try and claw some points and get better standing for next season.

I think the Ricciardo thing is a trial to see if he's still "got it"

If he does I predict he'll be in the Red Bull after the summer break...

de vries is what you get when you take a dutch driver and remove all the cheating.

De Vries was bad, so it's not surprise at all, but I wouldn't be surprised if Ricciardo is bad too, he was one of worst drivers on the grid last season too.

Yeah, be interesting to see if it was really down to the car not matching his style or if there was more to it.

I don't see RB moving out Perez considering the contract he's on till the end of 2024, and the money he brings in is far greater than Ricciardo. I think Ricciardo will move elsewhere in 2024, and the more likely scenario is Liam Lawson at AT with Tsunoda for 2024 with RB keeping the same line up as this year.

The one move that will be a bit left field will be Tsunoda & Aston Martin, if Honda continue to keep the trend of putting one of their own drivers in a car.

Regardless of whether they move Checo or not, this is pretty smart stuff imho. At minimum it puts Checo under a lot of subconscious pressure to improve quick or else. I don't see how he'll be able to take this any other way.

Does it piss anyone else off that Stroll is just taking up a seat?
He isn't that bad driver as some make him to be, actually a team worker and seemingly solid behind the scene. The Aston doesn't seem to fit him as good as Fernando though.

A bit but not really, he's not the worst driver on the grid, I just wish he wasn't in a half decent team.

Agree. Before this year he wasn’t as bad as others suggest.

He’s not the worst driver on the grid, and he’s actually quite good for a nepotistic driver (whose parent wasn’t a racing driver).

But he is a bottom third driver (and one of the least likeable drivers) in a top 3/4 car and there are certainly drivers that deserve his seat over him.

I dunno. He’s had 5ish seasons now and has barely done anything. Granted he’s had to deal with Perez, Vettel and Alonso as teammates which is a big challenge but I really doubt if he would have a seat without Daddy Stroll.

Not just 5 - this is his SEVENTH season! He has 15 more entries than Gasly, which is mind-blowing!

Personally I think he is up there with the worst drivers on the grid. Especially when it comes to awareness.

Yeah, after big dyck nyck is gone , I am not sure who is actually worse. Sarge is a rookie but he is definitely getting better (together with the car).
