F1 2022 Season

Few more gills

It's interesting how much higher Russell sits above the halo than Lewis. The max crash on Lewis, with the halo saving him may not be as effective on Russell.

Russell has said that Mercedes are behind ferrari and mclaren in their car development. Ferrari and mclaren look great on low fuel runs and tyre management. Also porposing on the straights needs to be fixed by all the teams as its a safety concern and very unpleasant to experience.

This would be nice to see. I think it's quite possible that neither Merc nor RB are among the fastest 2 at the start of the season given how much has changed. I still don't like the hub caps but i'm slowly warming to this season day by day :)

The undercut on the Red Bull is insane.

I've seen a counter argument... It's not actually that undercut. It's actually that the intake is far more further forward than the other cars. If you look further back to where the intakes usually are, it's still coke bottle shaped in the usual place.

A good explanation. Alpine have already cut abit of their floor away, losing some downforce but reducing the porposing effect. As active suspension and mass dampers are banned in F1, surely the FIA will introduce a new rule with a minimum ride height to reduce the porposing effect on safety grounds.

Dont think this will be a quick fix.

I wonder if this is why we saw Mercedes have the markings near the floor? To measure degradation due to porpoising?

Haas will run an all-white car on the final day of testing after confirming they are dropping the branding of their Russian sponsor Uralkali from their car in Barcelona.
The news comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed an attack on Ukraine.
Fertiliser company Uralkali counts Dmitry Mazepin, the father of Haas' Russian driver Nikita Mazepin, as one of its major shareholders.
The F1 team's usual livery is red, white and blue but will now be solely white on the final day in Spain.
Nikita Mazepin will continue to drive for Haas in the morning session as planned.

Who else has seen the real time footage of the porpoising? Looks absolutely mental.

Why doesn't F1 just have spec active suspension
Because active suspension on a car with huge wings is the same as active aero (i.e you can use it to decide what those wings do). It was banned after Mansell won his WDC.

Its hideous expensive and not needed. All the FIA need to do is raise the minimum ride height if the cars. Add sensors one front wing and at the rear of the car to monitor compliance with the ride height and porposing isnt an issue. Its the quickest, cheapest way to resolve this issue.

But F1 is full of very smart engineers, who will vome up with something, radical and expensive as a solution.

Will be interesting to see what happens to Haas without Uralkali.
Lots of people suggesting Andretti could buy them and enter F1 sooner. They'd avoid the 'new team' fee of $200 million that way, and take over existing facilities etc.

Also saw someone suggesting Ferrari should make them a daughter team. It'd make sense tbh.
They have several talented academy drivers at the moment, one of them already at Haas.
They could swap Mazepin with Ilott or Shwartzman and use the team as a pipeline, like AlphaTauri is for Red Bull.
Shwartzman had a very strong finish to his season in F2 last year, and finished 2nd (4th the year before).
Ilott finished 2nd in 2020 (in front of Tsunoda, Mazepin & Zhou).

Kind of hope that 2nd team thing doesn't become a trend though.

Also, seen some suggestions that Magnussen or Fittipaldi might be shoed in in the short-term, but there wouldn't be a financial gain from that though. Magnussen is already competing elsewhere and said he didn't want to re-join F1 in a midfield (or back-of-grid) team.

Reckon this will have an impact on Haas as well, looking for another sponsor and another pay to race driver at this rate.

I see Mercedes finally showed their legs and did the fastest time of the test so far.

So much for them being behind ;)

They are the king of sandbagging after all.
:D I don't think anybody really believed that they were struggling.

It seems the top 4 teams from last year are still leading the way though.

Poor Max and Masi. So unfair for them.

It's like a referee in a football match having players talk to him during the game, impossible... oh wait.

Or more like the manager asking the referee to stop the opposition touching the ball so his team can score and win both the game and the league championship.

Mazaspin time at Haas looks to be over. Haas consulting lawyers to terminate their relationship with mazaspin's old mans company according to BBC.

Not sure Steiner would have any choice in the decision.

Gene Haas is probably not going to want to be aligned with the Russians anymore at this point.

There would be no shortage of paid drivers wanting the seat right now also.

Or Shwartzman who deserves a slot but he's Russian too.
