F1 2021 Season

That’s not how it works in formula 1. If you don’t have the car you can’t compete. I’m not saying Verstappen is more talented then Hamilton. They both are insane talents but you can’t say he must match his achievements to be called more talented.

Actually, that ie how it works. The most talented driver will usually get the best team.
Not always but usually.
Yes of course Verstappen is extremely talented and very fast.
But so are a lot of drivers.
As in all elite sports, it takes way more than pure talent.
So talent is not always the best way to judge a racing driver.
For example, take Vettel. You don't get to win 4 world championships without talent.
But we can all see what happens when talent is not matched by application.

Drivers can be unlucky with teams though and there are only 2 slots available at Mercedes with one going to a driver who probably doesn't want a real competitor taking points off him.

Alonso obviously has the talent and the application and moved to teams when they were winning, but was just unlucky that those teams couldn't produce the cars after he joined. Few would argue that Alonso isn't one of the best talents of the generation yet he has won nothing since 2006.

Quite agree.
As I said, talent alone is not necessarily the best way to judge a driver.
In his case, it was down to bad luck and poor decisions.

Ok. If he really is as you say, you can look forward to him beating Lewis Hamilton achievements.
Because in terms of pure racing talent, Hamilton is the best I have ever seen. And I have been watching F1 for over 50 years.

Yeap. He's matured and put some thought into his game. He rarely makes detrimental mistakes -- metronome-like for most parts and makes strategic calculations when required.

It remains to be seen if Max can evolve.

Alonso along with Hamilton are the best two of their generation. You gotta be in the right car at the right time in F1 and alonso has made some bad decisions in that regard.

Max so far is one of the best of his generation. Remains to be seen who the other one or two will be. We'll probably get a better idea when Lewis, Vettel, alonso and Kimi retire and more seats open up.

Whether Max will be able to match Schmie and Lewis records is a unknown. He is 13 years lewis's junior so had time on his hands. However the new rules mean the more successful your team is the less windtunnel time you get compared to the rest of the grid. So dominating years like we saw schmie and lewis do maybe harder to achieve. Then again lewis and schmie were the most dominate in their 30s so max has time on his side and the rules could change again into his 30s.

What everyone is saying now to downplay Hamilton's achievements is what they used to say about Schumacher. Max is an insane talent and he'll win multiple world championships but he's got some way to go to prove himself as more talented than Lewis.

Should be an exciting season ahead.

Not true at all.

Has Lewid proved anything in average car? Luckiest driver ever with cars.

 In his rookie year he beat world champion alonso in the same car. Let’s stop with the ridiculous statements!

Find it really weird how people love to try and put Lewis down or discredit his achievements. Dunno if it's his personality or what.

Who knows. Think people have different reasons, most probably stem from him winning constantly and it rubs people up the wrong way. The same thing happened with Schumacher and vettel.

to just put it down to him being lucky though is stupid, he’s beaten every team mate at a canter.

If you say he beat Alonso then you have to be fair to Button and Rosberg who beat him.

I agree. It’s really silly. He’s clearly one of the best ever.

I have the normal sky sports channels and get F1 for no extra charge.
Sky F1 has been around for a few years now.
They were going on about it being separate when we got sky q last year. Got a feeling my missus got Netflix added instead of f1 and no way I'm paying £18 more.

So what you're saying is Lewis was supposed to turn down the chance to drive for McLaren and he's supposed to go to Haas before he retires. Got it.

Mercedes may yet fix their problems but it’s clearly much closer particularly without the qualifying mode. Hopefully the new Honda engine is as reliable as it is fast.

Felt like Leclerc and Alonso dragged their cars into better positions, the midfield may be just as epic.

There is also the fact that he helped develop the cars. It’s all connected to each other. Downplaying Hamilton’s achievements is silly. You see the same in Messi or Ronaldo threads. It’s fine to have an opinion but why would you make up silly things to discredit a 7 times world champion.

I'm on the sky legacy pacakage. Basically f1 was apart of the HD package years ago. I have stayed on that. If i change my sky tv package i lose the f1 and would have to pay more for f1 via sky sports. So for now im happy to be on the sky legacy package. As soon as sky lose F1, im unsubscribing from sky.

He beat them more times than they beat him. People use 2016 as a stick to beat Hamilton with, fully ignoring all the previous years Hamilton beat Rosberg.

Yeah it's annoying. The sky q interface isn't great either. My missus loves Netflix though.
I guess I try and find a stream or F1 is dead to me. Shame when the season looks potentially competitive.

I'm surprised it's not in the normal Sky package now. I use Now Tv and there is no extra charge for F1 - it just comes in the Sky sports pack.

British chauvinists did, just like they hyped Hamilton. By any objective standards they're in a different league. Hamilton is a talented driver but when he had the chance to make that count in a competitive car he didn't but lost out to Vettel with a good car but not a real top team, and also to his teammate Button. In the Mercedes he couldn't make it count because any competent driver in that car would have been WC, he only had to beat Rosberg and Bottas in which he only partly succeeded.

So if he has matured as claimed, this is the first season to show it if the Red Bull stays competitive enough for the whole season. I wouldn't bet on it, he started out as a spoiled kid and he has been spoiled with by far the best car and the best team and the weakest teammate in the history of F1. It's kind of unfair to him because this will always taint his legacy among the not so easily influenced race fans and it's not his fault.

Vettel with a 5 place grid penalty for failing to slow enough during double yellows. Despite those yellows not being waved until after he went by Mazepin.

Hmm, it seems to be on skysports main event, so all good. Dunno if that's just the first race?

I have access to Sky Sports F1 as well as Main Event so I'm pretty sure it's valid for the season. According to the blurb F1 should be available in the normal sports pack regardless of Now TV:

"Sky Sports F1™ HD is available on its own or as part of the Complete Sports Pack. F1 fans can choose to take the Sky Sports F1™ HD on its own for £18 a month on top of your Sky package, meaning you won't pay for channels you don't watch.

You can also choose the Complete Sports Packs which gets you Sky Sports F1™ HD as well as all the dedicated Sky Sports channels such as Sky Sports Premier League, Sky Sports Golf, Sky Sports Cricket and Sky Sports Football. You'll also get the Sky Sports Main Event channel included."

Seems odd- feck knows who will pay for it then. As long as it isn't me I don't care!

I really don’t understand why people dislike Hamilton so much. They just showed his interview after qualifying on Dutch TV. As sympathetic as it gets really.

Yikes out of all then weird Hamilton post iv read over the years this tops the all those world class laps, amazing races, record wins and equal 7 world titles.

By any objective standards Lewis is a top 3 all time driver. He is definitely in the same league as Michael. It isn’t outrageous to say Lewis is better just as it is to say he isn’t.

This is a good one “ when he had the chance to make that count in a competitive car he didn't” this is just wrong. Not only has he done that in multiple occasions, you can’t compare that McLaren to that RB. Peak Senna or Michael would have lost too.

I like him personally, although I think he's no longer the best driver. it's just that Mercedes's cars are in a league of their own.

I can’t argue with this. I think this is a fair comment. If I had to pick 1 driver for 1 race tomorrow and all over drivers had the same car I would pick Max. But no can argue even though people in this thread are trying to be at one Lewis the best for a long time and an all time great. Not saying the greatest (Senna still imo) but he’s in that group.

I think it’s close between Verstappen and Hamilton. Personally I wouldn’t call one better then the other. They both are extremely good. That’s the only thing I can say for certain about them.

Let’s hope we see many great battles between them this season and may the best win. That would be fantastic. My greatest wish is a great battle and may the best win. I’ll root for Verstappen but would gladly applaud Lewis if he beats him fair and square!

Iam a fan, he got me watching F1 again , after years not watching after seeing Senna die.
He is out spoken about things he is passionate about.
I think some just like to hate , just for the sake of if.

I agree, I reckon Verstappen is the better driver right now but obviously we're talking about slim margins.
