F1 2010

Then you need to improve your qualifying performance!

 I've had a podium finish in the last 4 races, 2 3rds and 2 1sts starting from 3rd to 6th on the grid each time, maybe instead of trying to be clever with your answers read the part where I said 'I might just be blind.' There's no harm in just pointing things out rather than taking that ground like too many people here do.

It was tongue in cheek, dry your eyes. :)

Fair enough. Wait until you take it to the next level and use tyre wear and Fuel simulation, then after a few laps realise the other drivers are immune to it. Frustrating

Perhaps. So far it's been fine. and who knows if I ever move to a level high enough to notice those bugs.

Ah balls! I chose Alonso as my Rival as I despise him in real life, not because I wanted to drive for Ferrari! Now I'm in a real pickle whether I stay at Lotus or go to Ferrari if they offer me. It's a big step up, but I'd prefer red bull or mclaren..

 doh! Imagine it's Massa they release to pair you with Alonso.

After winning in Montreal, I qualified 5th in Valencia in my Lotus on Intermediate AI with manual braking and tyre/fuel simulation. Hopefully can maintain position and push for a podium. I'm getting far better results now the auto braking is off but taking it on a track by track basis.

Around the Hungary/Belgium Grand Prix. You get a media interview to pick one.
Sweet, thanks.

I don't seem to have the time to play this as much as I'd like at the moment and it's not going to improve when Fifa 11 comes out but I'm loving it at the moment and steadily improving.

Nice one :D you'll do it in Montreal as well, I did it in both and found Montreal far easier than Istanbul.

nice :D i had webber all over me lap after lap for ages, feck me those red bulls are fast! eventually he slid on one of the bends and into the barrier at the pit wall taking off his front wing and sending him into the pits. i was relieved to say the least!

Right, a race update from me.

I reset my career due to frustration with the game. This time I've plumped for Virgin (slower than lotus, but faster out of the corners). These are my settings:

Expert difficulty.
Legend A.I
No assists
No race line
Cockpit view
Tyre wear on
Damage on full
Penalties on full.

The only thing I won't use is the fuel simulation, since it's a right fecking mess and does ruin the game.

I've done Bahrain, long weekend 20 lap race. I qualified 7th with a time of 1.57 (I'm rather proud of that). So cut to the race:

I start off well, getting to the corner in 7th still (a feat in itself!), and I manage to take Shuey and Button on the first corner. I'm up Alonso and Hamilton's arses into the second and third, it's here I shine (the hill climb leading into the series of slow corners) I absolutely murder the A.I at these corners, so I end up taking first with out much sweat - I lead all the way till the A.I start pitting.

Now I decide to pit late (for obvious reasons) and Webber does too. I out wait him and am about three seconds ahead when he pits, I take the next two laps pretty easy (both 1.59s) and then pit. A flawless stop, but somehow I'm out behind webbs! Still I've got about 8 laps to do him, which should be a piece of piss for me. Wrong. I fecking get cocky on my favourite corner and spin, but catch. However it sends me on the wrong line for the next two corners and that pleb Alonso takes me. I nail him back over the next few laps, but am too far behind webber to catch.

I end up, once again on Legendary, bloody second when I should have won a first! Still not too shabby in a Virgin :D

Lambs, you hardcore mofo. I don't think they made the game for people like you.

 It's all about patience and a steady right foot! As I said earlier in the thread, if people can get their head round braking late, turning in and gently feathering the throttle all through the turn, it makes a world of difference.

Also it's important to set the car up right. Even though you can't feel the back of the car (grrr!) I'm still an oversteer merchant on this game. I rather the arse coming round on me, than understeering off on gravel, because I normally am in a position where I just need a little more throttle to power through it.

Practice makes perfect!

What does the fuel simulation do? I have it on but you can't refuel this season so I'm not sure what the difference would be if I turned it off.

It weighs you down in a race and slowly you get lighter. Well that's the idea. Problem is, you don't seem to get much lighter at all, and no matter what you set the A.I cars don't have it on!

So with it on, you are basically artificially heavier than all the other cars on the track, as witnessed with getting of the line at the start of a race.

Unbelievably pissed off. Was finishing 8th at Silverstone but spun out on the last bloody corner of the race and by the time I got back on track I was shifted down to 16th

Well, I've only played it for one night and I was using a controller, but I am a racing game stalwart and enjoy sim to arcade to karting madness. Braking late and feathering the throttle are coded into my dna.

Toro Rosso, Expert, Legend AI. 2 Races, 2 wins, too easy. I'm gonna make it harder on myself by not setting the car up anymore and just using the defaults.

Well with a decent wheel and pedals, you won't find this game too challenging after you've learnt the tracks.

In fact the most challenging aspect is learning to arcade drive these cars! It reminds me of this game

Yeah they are fast as feck... I'm now 4th in the championship with 113 pts so my only 3 above me are Vettel on 139, Alonso on 159 and Webber on 178... so when I choose my rival my choice is only Red Bull or Ferrari... won't be able to try for McLaren unless I drive rubbish next few races and let Hamilton currently on 94 try and overtake me on points but feck that!

So, Red Bull or Ferrari...

I won't be getting a wheel with this unfortunately, just spunked my monthly gaming allowance on a psp with games and Dead Rising 2. I know I'll enjoy this though, bugs and cheating AI aside, I've enjoyed Grid and Need For Speed Shift loads recently and they're far from perfect. NFS did have nice snap oversteer though, loved the weight representation and nose dip on some cars for what is essentially an arcade racer with loads of gimmicks.

That's what I like most about Forza 2, the weight transference. If you haven't set the car up properly (mostly the ARBs), you can feel the weight swing back and snap you round. Well on the cars that do it in real life anyway ;)

Hmmm

so I managed to complete 1 whole lap of Yas Marina without crashing on zero assists/expert difficulty in practice mode.....

Tried practicing a bit on Silverstone, really struggle in terms of knowing when to brake, either I brake way too early, or brake way too late...good thing about the track is that there is quite a bit of downforce to work with at the high speed corners unlike Bahrain...

Damn this game is tough, but its more to do with me just absolutely sucking....

Right now my goal is to just do laps in practice without crashing or spinning, course with zero assists, but still...really really frustrating how much I suck at this game..

Only pulling your leg mate.

I just hope they patch the FF but for some reason that is not being moaned about as much as other things.

The fuel and tires seem to work fine with me how come you think they are bugged?

If they were wouldn't you find it difficult to finish 2/3 in a lotus?

The AI lap times on mine go down as fuel goes down as they should, however they do seem to be 2-3 seconds quicker than there quali laps which I don't get unless its the tarmac rubbering in.

Yet very pissed off with SIlverstone. I'm going to make Massa's life hell. He's the one who spun me out on that last corner

1st in canada, heavy rain too so was a bit of a pain in the tits

Kinell Lambs you must be good.

Finished 14th in Monaco last night. Really need to put some points on the board though with this run of decent tracks coming up. Di Grassi got 10 points a couple of races back and it's bugging the shit out of me.

Might even be a big gay and put the ABS on.

Eh? I finished second in bahrain and 3rd in monaco in a lotus with fuel on! ;)

It's just a liberty with the fuel. Same with the tyres, but you have to keep them on or its far too easy!

Not trying to brag for a Sony game, but what you're doing would never happen in F1 CE in the same amount of time you've had with this game.

I'm not bad at F1 CE, but its virtually impossible to win a race with a midland or Super Aguri on hard without holding up the entire grid blocking like crazy. There are tracks where car performance advantage can be dissipated with some nuts as driving 'Imola, Canada, France' but you would barely scrape the top 10.
