F1 2010

For those of you unsure how to set the cars up (beyond the generic ones of course), the guys at race department have set up a great forum:

F1 2010 Setups

Although be warned, some of those settings are top end. At least try the gear ratios and brake settings though.

Is that link offline at the moment?

EDIT: NVM seems to be fixed.

 Well, obviously!

However, games like Foza, iRacing and even PGR let you feel the grip from the back as effectively as you are going to get.

F1 2010 doesn't.

GT is the same as the above mentioned 'not F1'

Its simply because the game's engine is that used in Grid and Dirt where the movement of the car is through a central axis point and not on all four wheels.

fecking 20th in monaco, that makes things fun, will do it tomorrow though, im in no mood now to tackle it tonight

1.42 on China I'm getting now, the settings on that website make such a difference. I'm murdering Vettel for speed on China, just pitted 2nd before any other cars so should out last them all to a comfortable points finish, started 6th on the grid but managed to overtake a fair few before got to the first corner.

EDIT: Came out of the pits 8th, regained 2nd back while everyone else pitted, kept it all race and lapped Trulli (god is he embarrassing to have as a team mate) and Webber still finished 1st 7 seconds ahead of me. I'm also convinced he didn't pit at all.

I'm finding it much easier to go long weekend and just lap lap lap lap on qualifying I won't advance until the qualifying is over. If you can get in the top 5 then you can pit when your guys tell you to, because not everyone in front of you will pit and if they do you're only behind 2 cars or so. I only ignore them if I'm lower than 10th then you get the annoying stuck behind 8 cars in the pits. It does tend to make the game feel though like the race doesn't mean much and it's all about the qualifying. If you can get a grid start of 8th you're sorted because you can pretty much move up to 5th/6th on the straight from go and then pit and exit first and wait for everyone else then to pit while you carry on and take back your top spot.

Still not happy that I'm sure Webber wasn't pitting and I could do with a better team mate than Trulli who keeps coming in 24th.

I haven't felt more satisfied with this game yet than when I just knocked Vettel and spun him, then he finished 7th. I almost punched the air before realising I would have span myself if I did.

Try Buemi :D

My team has 67 points and I've got 66 of those

Can't do full races though. Not going to spend 2 hours for one race

Just finished Valencia. Great track. Got through Q3 in qualifying but just missed out on Q1, finishing 11th in Q2.

Not a problem though as I managed to get up to 7th by the 3rd lap.

Was about to get into the pits on the 5th when I realised there were 4 cars ahead of me so I stayed out and got upto 3rd. Continued to avoid pits for another 2 laps until Alonso pitted and it was just me and Rosberg. Finally he pit and I was left to lead, managed a great one lap (fastest lap) to increase advantage and went in the pits.

This is where i screwed up. Entering the pits I managed to hit some wall which damaged my front wing which cost me a further 2 seconds in the pits which cost me 4th and potentially 3rd position. I finished 5th

Played this for the first time last night. It was pretty damn good. I have to play with the in cockpit view or it isn't the same.

I was initially against this view but once I tried I absolutely loved it. It makes it much easier to drive :D

For some reason my Polish copy of the game has Russian language as the main one and I barely know their letters. It will take me some time before I get to a menu and fix it I guess.

Can someone tell me where to go to change language, step by step? I can't work out all these letters at all.

I can't stop spinning on Catalunya for the life of me right at the end, that little S over the top and down, I can do the over the top bit but as you go down and turn to the right before you enter the home straight I always spin. So annoying.

Short shift through there, if on manual gears ofcourse.

Climbed from 24th to 17th in Bahrain in my Virgin, can't work out how to take turns even with all assists on. Somehow managed to finish ahead of Vettel but it's probably a bug.

Forgot to mention, on my first ever track, qualified in 13th, finished the race in 4th. BUT, I span out, tried to get back on the track a bit too hastily and ended up pole-axing my team mate, Trulli. He had to retire. With all my penalties added up I was demoted from 4th to 19th.

The game just kept me awake until 3AM, seeing as I have to wake up before 9AM that's not really good.

I qualified 11th in Melbourne, much easier than I had it in Bahrain - can't believe how enjoyable it is to go a second faster than the lap before, I got 1:36:031 in the end which probably isn't really very good but still have me lots of reason to celebrate. Just a shame that I couldn't go a fraction of a second faster because I'd be top 10. Hope I can overtake one or two drives but most likely I will get overtaken - Virgin car seems really slow, I was racing Kovalainen in Bahrain and he seemed to get the best of me at the end of all corners.

Just a slight hope for my first points but I'll try it first thing in the morning when I'm free.

was playing melbourne last night, was in first going into the last few laps but because I was being cautious (in th wet) the pack was catching up. had four laps left and the team were telling me to come in, but i didn't want to waist the time in the pits (having already pitted early on lap 2 i think) so was just going for the line. On lap 11 (of 12) 5 or 6 of the cars directly behind me pitted giving me a clear and easy run to the line, was really weird. Hamilton went from something like 3rd to 15th. Stupid AI. I was happy though.

On to KL now - doing lots of time trails in the lotus to try to learn the tract - it is really open and fast but I am having great difficulty with it, in trying to keep the speed up on the fast sweeping corners without pushing too wide. Gonna take me some time to get used to it i reckon.

Ironically I hated driving round Australia but loved Malaysia and China. Both very fast tracks with lots of sweeping corners and good overtaking spots.

Any word on a patch yet?

they have said they have started work on one, but there has been no news other than that - what they are looking to patch or how long they expect it to take.

From the wording of the statement I read, it seems like they are starting from scratch on a patch and that it will take a while.

Also, have to say I loved the Melbourne track. Some of the corners were brilliant and felt great when you nailed them. Turns 11 and 12 were my favourite to hammer it through - 13 and 14 were great to hook up too.

They are not going to patch it, they should be hard at work getting the next one ready. They should look at this one as shit under the bridge, and make sure it's right for the next one. Most players won't notice the bugs in any case.

That's my take on it, I don't care about the bugs I haven't even noticed them tbh except the 8 cars pitting at once and the fact that Webber never seems to pit if you are behind him.

I just race my line without letting anyone behind me take over me and try to take over the car in front when they appear to work my way up the podium. Wrong car times posted doesn't bother me, I'm too busy looking at the track trying to keep my car together and trying to negotiate that damn S bend at the end on Catalunya.

i thought this post was interesting

When Hermann Tilke (google him if you don't know who that is) went about designing the tracks of F1, he did it with a few things in mind.
Acceleration of cars
Deceleration of cars
Rough no. of laps of a circuit
Places for spectators
No. of teams (roughly)
Vehicle track length
Length of race (time and distance
General FIA rules/regs

The pit area/grandstand/track length etc etc were all designed with these things in mind.

OK now that's out the way... When CM sat down to make this game they wanted to reproduce the feeling of being in an F1 race as well as possible. They designed graphics that are as good as todays hardware can process and a driving engine that is revolutionary in that it strives to emulate the feeling of driving these beasts (something 0.001% of gamers will have had any experience doing in reality, and only like 3% would have ever seen up close) whilst still being playable through options. Its no good making a game that a 3 year old cant play. If a 5 year old kid is into F1 and theres no way for him to drive without it being a 100% race with 0 assists off and Legend AI then its kinda sucky...

So what you have is a game that puts you in the world of F1 without you having to aquire a Super License. GREAT!

Now back to the "Bug". In an effort to reproduce F1 they have remodelled the tracks to cm accuracy (not mm they arent laser scanned nooooooooooo lol). However, when Tilke designed these tracks he did it on planet earth, not a magical land where fuel and tyres wear 5 times as fast as reality, or where it is 10 times faster. Or where some of the drivers on the circuit will smash into things 2-3 times a lap and come in 5-6 times a race etc etc.

So when you pit you have to pit in the same physical space as where many other drivers will but with a much accelerated frequency. Partly due to the length or races and partly due to EVERYONE's lack of skill.

I did a 30% of Marina Bay last night. We were losing wings left right and centre. Plus tyres puncturing and wearing. Time was moving 3 times as fast and skill was about 20% of Trulli's so we pitted about 4 times as often and the pit lane didnt get 4 times bigger. Now we didn't have any pit issues whatsoever, but you can imagine there would be. Take a look at the Renault Force India crash in the pits at Hungary. That was with professionals and 2 in the pits on a dry circuit with point having teams... They messed up and crashed due to traffic. Imagine the drivers were much worse, time was moving 3-20 times faster, and everyone was using default pit times without editing race strat so every team pitted lap 4...

You can imagine the carnage

I'm not defending CM really, I don't care if you hate em or not. I enjoy this game A LOT, I drive longer races generally and I think the game will always favour that since the tracks were designed for that, and so was the sport. We'd all be complaining the other way round if CM just let us plough into eachother in the pits with 12 people all in at the same time in that tiny coridoor.

So in conclusion, I don't think the pit lane bug is a bug, its an inevitability. The tracks cant support that many people pitting at once. They only just about manage it in the real world with much less stress, the game was never gonna have much chance. Sure a workaround fix can be patched but the game will always favour 100% races. And if it didn't we'd all be complaining about that anyway

Other bugs can also be explained in this way, and about 50% or reported "bugs" arent bugs at all. THERE IS NO TYRE PUNCTURE BUG. Those drivers just suck... the S3 sector time thing isnt that big a deal and isnt that far off reality anyway.

That being said, the engineer has a tiny vocabulary and is fairly useless... maybe some time recording things other than "you've picked up some gravel on your tyres" would help. In fact let me get into this!!!

Why on earth would a HRT in 24th position be told on team radio that a Ferrari was pitting in, how on earth would that affect me miles before my scheduled stop. And where is all the info on my rival/team mate pitting? Where are constant updates on their strat/tyre choice/wear/wing condition/lap times/likely strat? all this would be great!

Instead I get you have gravel... duh! I can see it... Not to mention I DID IT!!!

Then you get no split times between you and rivals, useless, their lap times are totally useless to me. These tracks are long, you can pit and come out alone with no sense of where the opposition are around you. WOULD NEVER happen in F1. Team would be on at you letting you know where you stand.

Replays are abysmal in every sence. How can a ghost be saved yet no replay of it, go figure. No spectator option. Searching for a game online just DOESN'T WORK.

A leaderboard of times that is a) buggy and b) not split up between who is using assists and who isnt/what car is driven... thats just stupid... the icon thing was a poor attempt and making the leaderboards in any way useful as a guage.

O and get over the Qualifying times not being what tha AI are actually doing thing, who cares...

OK there you have it. I LOVE THIS GAME!!

But I'm no fanboy I perceive the mistakes. Good luck fixing em CM, some are REALLY easy fixes so just do em lol

Codemasters Forums - View Single Post - Pit-Stop Issue

he raises some good points, as for the pit issues, i dont race less than 50% distance, i mostly do 50% - 75% so it is not affecting me at all

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to change the difficulty but only in the way that the AI gets better results and is faster, but I still get to have all the assists on?

It has to be a bug. I'm sure there would be a big enough gap to release a car from the pit box without it crashing into another car.

more than likely is, on a lighter note even the pros can feck it up

Are we sure it's not quite a "bug" but an unexpected implementation of the ten metre rule? Cars can't be released from their pit box if someone else is already in the pit land within ten metres. It fecks people over in real life too, on safety cars and such.

I agree with most of that post Sparky. I can see where he's coming from with being held up in the pits in a lower length race. What annoys me more is the AI not pitting at all. Cheating shits.

The thing that they will have to definitely patch though is the corrupt save thing. That's gotta be top priority.

indeed - all the others cars that 'block' you into the pit manage to get out in decent order (comparitive to how they go in) so there is no reason why you are held up more so than them every time this situation arises.

Just dropped from 7th place in Melbourne and finished 12th because of the fecking pit stop thing. How do I beat this.

Talking of tracks easy for overtaking, what about Montreal? Amazing track :D

monaco done, i am relieved now! finished 18th so not too bad really considering its my worst track, onto istanbul now, 8th fastest in practice, will give qualifying a go later

I just finished 8th in Kuala Lumpur, did an amazing job in the two last laps by overtaking Massa and Liuzzi. Now on to Shanghai.

Finished 15th in mine from a grid of 12th, I hate that track lol. Catalunya is my worst track just because of that last bend. I would have finished 14th on Monaco but span at the end, Barrichello got past me but I was sideways so held up everyone behind me and managed to keep my place.

The pits on Monaco pissed me off, I was 8th, came in to pit first and ended up coming out of the pit last, came out 19th as my pit was right at the end, by the time I got there everybody behind me had already finished and I had to sit and watch them all go before I could... so annoying.

Could not agree more. I absolutely detest that track bloody hell.

I lost track of the number of times I spun or was spun out by someone there.

And as for Monaco, I had a decent race. Managed to finish 8th (I think).

Key to the pits and avoiding traffic and getting dumped to last is to go alteast a lap or 2 after your team calls you in.

im not too bad with that s bend in catalunya

Haha same here. The down turn is where I always spin. Only when I almost slow down to a standstill do I get across it fine. And finally when I was beginnng to get a hang of it I was 9 laps into a 11 lap race and 40 seconds behind the 2nd last person on track
